We remember our first sip of hoppy beer, do you? Nearly spit that $#!^ out. Now we fantasize about this stuff. Thinking about those hop ones...bursting with juice...ripe as all hell...makes you look forward to that first RESIN® all day long. Can't wait.
Key Ingredients Chinook and Centennial Hops are a little old school, with tons of resin and pine notes. RESIN uses a ton of different hops, for a massively complex hop bouquet.

Can, $2.99 from Fishpaws. Best by 23 Nov 2012.
In my Duvel green tulip, this beer is a faintly hazy (probably from the dry hops) deep orange with a dense, off-white head that has excellent retention and gorgeous lacing. The nose has a lot of fruity hop character along with quite a bit of a sweet, caramel (almost like a Vienna malt) aroma. I get notes of orange, honeydew melons and a little pine. The sweetness is way overdone for my palate.
The palate opens with a moderate bitterness that's comprised of aggressive grapefruit and orange peel. That said, it does not taste like 102 IBUs (not that anyone knows what that tastes like) as the perceived sweetness, which is more akin to a toasted pale malt rather than a caramel malt (in a vein similar to that in Troegs' Perpetual IPA), is rather high. The combination, for the most part, is decent, except when I really think about it, which is when the word "vomit" keeps coming to my mind. To be honest, though, there is an intensity and pungency to the ho character that does have a bile-like bitterness. Sweetness, in addition to the aforementioned toasted pale malt characteristic, also has some caramel. Moderately drying, quite bitter on the finish with grapefruit and orange peel, this beer is moderately carbonated and resiny sweet. The alcohol does lighten the body a little bit.
Decent stuff, I drank my 12 oz can without too much difficulty, but IMO, this is a middling DIPA. I feel my scores are harsh, but despite my qualms, this is a fairly competitive style, and I can't honestly score this beer any higher. Still, this is a beer I recommend.

Poured from a 12 oz can bought in Florida. Excellent appearance for style with nice golden color, very slight haze and a beautiful pillow of head. Strong, resinous hop aroma and very hop-forward flavor, but there is a bit of sweetness from malt later in the plate and in the finish. Overall. This is everything I like about a DIPA--tons of hops and bitterness, but not shying away from the malt balance.

Really not as bitter as the marketing and reviews would have you believe. I mean it's got a bite, but it's also got a nice rich malt profile that makes it pretty smooth and easy to drink. You do feel the alcohol going down though. West coasty. Pine, resin (duh), and the slightest hint of citrus.

A really nice west coast dipa. It pours a beautiful copper color. Heavy citrus with hops on the back end for the nose. Nose transfers to the palate. Easy drinking for 9.1%. If you enjoy floral citrus flavor then you must try this one
