12oz skinny-keg poured into a stemmed tulip. Best before July 30, 2012.
A: Off-white two finger head. Body is a coppery ruby red with only a slight haze. Lacing is plentiful throughout.
S: Sweet candy hops! Pineapple, mango, and a smidgen of banana. Probably even more fruits that I can’t identify. I also smell the house Sixpoint yeast, which I’m mildly disappointed about. As the head fades the caramel malt notes and house yeast aroma become more noticeable.
T: Whoa! Not what I expected. This is loaded with brown sugar and light molasses flavors but without a ton of sweetness...thankfully. It totally reminds me of graham cracker crust. I sense that there is a good amount of bitterness (103 IBUs), but it’s completely held up by all the rich malt.
M: Body is medium, carb is medium-high. The richness of the flavor gives the perception that this has a more luxurious mouthfeel than other beers with similar viscosity and carbonation.
O: I like this, but not for any of the reasons that I thought I was going to coming into the review. I was not expecting such malt forwardness from a green can labeled “Resin”. My mouth was ready for Avery Maharaja but got ...well I don't even know. Somehow there were plenty of bittering hops and plenty of aromatic hops, but very little of the fruit from the nose carried through to the tongue. I wonder what this graham cracker would taste like blended with some Pumking...hmmm.
PS - Ok, I mixed them. A 1:1.5 ratio of Pumking to Resin is pretty good, but not mind blowing. Enjoy.
