Served on tap at Decicco's Brewster. Into a tall tulip glass.

A - Beautiful golden honey colored hue. Head is pure white and pillowy. Nice looking IPA.

S - Whoa, this is different. Very tropical/fruity notes to it. Very slight notes of onion/earthiness. Definitely a guava note in there.

T - Large fruity hops, with a great malt backbone. The oniony characteristics still exist, but they just work. It's not really an onion note, more like a dankness to the hop used (citra). Guava persists in the taste as well. Go taste some guava juice and you'll remember it from this beer.

M - Very smooth and creamy. Carbonated very well, and is extremely easy-drinking.

O - My first Citra-hopped beer and it was pretty damn good. I'm surprised nobody else has found this around, as citra hops are one of the "next-big-things". If you see it, and you're a fan of tropical/dank hop IPA's give it a shot.

On draft at The Ginger Man, NYC.

The smell featured a soft caramel malt and a moderate earthy hop.

The taste was rather well balanced with a tip toward the earthy do iciness of the nugget.

The mouthfeel was clean.

Overall a pleasant and easy drinking balanced ale.

On tap at New York Pizza. Pours a translucent amber color with an inch of head. Tons of lacing. The aroma is that classic Citra hop smell. Citrus and tropical fruits. Some light malts. The taste is more of the same. Citrus and tropical fruits with some stone fruit notes as well. Toasted malt backbone. Finishes with some light bitterness and the citrus again. Slightly oily mouthfeel with a lot of carbonation. Minimal alcohol presence. This is a very easy drinker. Overall, decent showcase for the Citra Hops.

Tap at Armsby Abbey

Nice creamy 1 finger head fades pretty slowly with nice notched lacing after the sips, super murky orange-carrot juice color.

Nose fresh citra hops, tropical fruit, clementine, tangerine, citrus juice, light musty passion fruit, guava, etc. with hints of malt base.

Taste starts with juicy hops again, fresh citra, starting with light resinous musty hops and hint of passion fruit, light tropical fruits of guava, etc, and plenty of citrus with tangerine, light orange zest, juice, etc. Malts bring a light sweet base that help prop up the fairly heavy bitterness, and some booze that cuts through. It gets fairly heavy and wants to get astringent but the malts hold it back a bit. Finish is drier with a spicy chewing on a hop pellet taste, with plenty of lingering orange zest, musty wet hop resin, and musty tropical fruit, with a hint of sticky malt residue.

Mouth is med to a bit heavier bodied, decent carb.

Overall pretty good, one of the few I've had that somewhat represents the hop fairly well I think, although they may have gone a bit overboard on the bittering portion of the hops as it starts to get astringent and it's quite bitter. Otherwise decent balance and fairly tasty, nice nose, and I really wish they concentrated more of the hops towards the back end of the boil and less on the front.

On Tap at Whole Foods.

Spice of Life Citra looks pretty nice, it's a bright one with a yellowish golden hue with some active rising bubbles resulting in a nice bright white billowy head that left clumps. Smells fresh with dry hopping apparent with citrus aroma, grapefruit, mango and the like. The yeast comes out bready with some floral aroma and grass. Reminds me of some hoppy Saisons. Taste is nice, the citrus comes out with mango, grapefruit and papaya. A bready yeasty middle that fades out the hops big time, a bit too much IMO Feel is nice and below medium and slides down easy with no alcohol in the finish, just hop burps. While I enjoyed this, I could only go for a pint before calling it quits.
