Poured from a 16 oz. dated can: slightly hazy, golden orange with a sustained fluffy white head.

This one is quite aromatic with a strong and sweet banana aroma typical of an authentic German wheat.

The flavor has a solid yeasty and bready profile with very faint hints of clove and of course, the refreshing banana-like flavor. The bubble gum flavor is present but very subdued.

This has the mouthfeel of a nice German style wheat - medium bodied with very zesty carbonation with a somewhat tart aftertaste.

This was a good choice for an early hot August day. While it will not top the best German interpretations, it is very refreshing and has good complexity for the style. The low ABV makes this one sessionable.

A - Hazy golden-amber coloration; nice bubbly white head that retains and laces along the glass nicely.

S - Green apple, lemon rind, coriander, and pepper, some yeastiness to it.

T - Beer immediately hits with a sourness and finishes with a tartness. Very nice, balanced flavor evolution through the sip. Flavors include green apple, papaya, tangerine, sage, coriander, wheat, pepper.

M - Light to medium-bodied. Less carbonation than you might expect (could use a bit more in my opinion - not that I care for carbonation). Sourness/tartness lingers after each sip but clears thereafter if you're sipping it.

D - Quite an interesting beer. I really enjoy this. I will definitely be getting this again. Another impressive offering from Sixpoint.

Served in a Gale Sayers shaker pint glass.

So a kristalweizen that's not all that "kristal"...whatevs! This stuff pours a mildly cloudy cream-amber topped by a finger of lightly cream-white foam. The nose comprises orange zest, coriander, clove, light banana, cracked wheat, black pepper, light cardamom, and a touch of candi sugar. The taste brings in more of the same, along with some cotton candy, vanilla bean, light grapefruit zest, more banana, and a bit of cinnamon. The result is a heavenly concoction of summery wheat beer-y-ness. I couldn't stop going back for more glugs from the 4-pack. The body is a light medium, with a light moderate carbonation, a creamy feel, and a mildly dry finish. Overall, this was one of the best wheat beers I've had in recent memory. I've been sucking them down for months and am sad to see its season over. Hey, Sixpoint: make this year round! If no one else will, I'll keep them off the shelves...

Appearance: Quite clear. Darker than I expected, but nice orange tones to the color.

Smell: Fruity esters for sure. Bananas.

Taste: Surprisingly sour! Caught me off guard at first as the sour flavors dominate the typical smooth and fruity wheat profile. But it's well balanced with the rest of the beer - by no means an intense sour ale. The play of the sour flavors with the yeast keeps the beer crisp and interesting throughout. Quite a unique and interesting take.

Overall, I appreciate the unique spin (though I don't really know what to expect from a Kristalweizen) on a summer beer to make a refreshing-but-intriguing beverage.

Appearance: Amber in color with some haziness and a light airy head one finger thick.

Aroma: Clove, apple, banana, cinnamon, wisps of nutmeg. Light yeasty dryness in the nose.

Taste: Very crisp mouthfeel. Bourbon notes, vanilla, banana, apple, pear, cinnamon, twinges of nutmeg and allspice in the slight dry finish.

Notes: An absolutely remarkable beer and very drinkable. Cheers.

09/02/13 On tap at Rattle n HUm, NYC. Very nice all round. I get a hint of banana/orange in the nose & first taste. Nice smooth texture w/a slight after taste of what could be bubble gum. The mind boggles.

A - straw/golden color that pours quite opaque for a Kristalweizen. Soft, small head.

S - Vibrant, orange and a little bit of mustard? Also a little musty barnyard as well

T- Really well balanced and smooth, peppery, light and refreshing.

M- Lots of yummy dextrins with a light smooth finish

O- I really enjoyed this beer, I had it after a long weekend on Sunday evening outside. Really well done

eyes...
(although at this first moment I am enjoying the audible sizzle...)
bright white head fizzles into nothingness in a matter of moments, mostly clear with a hue of dark straw, very active carbonation rises up even though there is no head, on par for the style matey

nose...
big bready dry banana (yeah, all that and a bag of plantain chips), nice fruity esters and some bubble gum snap, wheat driven funkish notes that smack of euro tradition.. brooklyn ? nice!

taste etc...
as refreshing as a great soft drink... except better, lemony notes really tease the mouth, the carbonation makes this so easy to drink, the sensations are all at once here, a mouthful of all the flavors you would and should expect, the nose is strong but the flavors of wheat and banana are in balance here, the tinge of sourness really is just making this an all day sucker, this is very refreshing and will be in my go to box this spring/summer for sure.

verdict?
drinks a bit lighter than some straight up weiss beers, so a better option for a pool party etc.
this is very tasty but remains really light and drinkable.
the can is convenient... and a hit in this household this fine evening

16 oz can poured into a pint glass. Deep gold to pale orange. Quite hazy despite being filtered. Smells ... wow, bananas. Bunches of bananas. Some ginger and clove there too. No mistaking it's a wheat beer here. Has a nice hoppy bite on the front to mid-palate then turns juicy and finishes with moist banana bread. And lemon, clove and ginger snaps. Amazing. Makes me want to gulp it down.

a: This pours a medium gold with moderate haze. The off-white head is short lived with big rocky bubbles.

s: A moderately-light clove and banana aroma dominates with a warm, spicy orange scent that makes me think of coriander. There is a soft wheat aroma as well.

t: There is a citrus tartness with a light sweetness and the balance being mildly tart. There is a spiciness as well as some wheat character. There is little bitterness and and hop flavor with a dry finish.

m: A medium-light body with some creaminess. The moderately-high carbonation seems to slightly dry the palate.

o: This is an easy to drink beer; I'm really enjoying the tartness and relatively dry finish along with the spicy and mildly fruit making this a great summer time beer.

Pours a golden copper, finger-width pearl white head that dissipates. 3 minutes in, no head what-so-ever, but very effervescent.

Typical weizen phenols and esters, spice and fruit dominate, banana and bubblegum take a backseat. Heavy wheat presence leads to a thick nose.

Light and fruity on the palate, berry and pineapple give way to a sharp yeasty-wheat characteristic. Fizzy, but with tight carbonation leading to an invigorating mouthfeel.

On principle I enjoy trying Sixpoint, however this is one of the best American Wheat's that I've had. Fantastic beer for when the temperatures keep edging upwards.

16oz can with a freshness date on the bottom.

LOOK: Bright golden hue, ring of lacing all the way down

SMELL: Bready, powdered clove, bubblegum, banana taffy, honeydew melon rind, grassy

TASTE: Smooth, crisp snap, moderate body, bread crust, green banana, lemon, clove, peppery, crackers, dry finish

Wow ... wow. Sixpoint pretty much nailed this one, did they rough-up some old German brewmasters for the secret recipe? I've only had a handful of this style but this clearly at the top. Congratz guys, you have a winner here.
