16 oz can poured into a pint glass. Deep gold to pale orange. Quite hazy despite being filtered. Smells ... wow, bananas. Bunches of bananas. Some ginger and clove there too. No mistaking it's a wheat beer here. Has a nice hoppy bite on the front to mid-palate then turns juicy and finishes with moist banana bread. And lemon, clove and ginger snaps. Amazing. Makes me want to gulp it down.

Can. Nose is wheaty and rather yeasty, and almost like it hasn’t finished becoming a beer yet - might be the style, but it seems muddled and unfinished. Taste has a bit of citrus in there and is a little sweet, Doesn’t seem like there’s a lot to this beer - not a big fan.

16 oz. can poured into craft pint.

A- Hazy pale orange with a dwindling airy white head. Carbonation is actively rising, but the head only retains as a ring. No lacing.

S- Lots of banana and clove, a bit of a floral fruit aroma. Very fragrant.

T- Fruity, a lot of the yeast flavor comes out. A bit of a tang in the finish.

M- A little syrupy, carbonation is not there. The tang hangs around after the finish.

O- Okay. Very fragrant, but I like a big foamy head on my weizens. The feel was off too.

(Served in a tulip glass)
A- This beer pours a murky dark orange body with a bubble white head that is soon gone but a gentle carbonation keeps a thin ring on top.

S- The perfumed fruity esters are almost banana in quality with a full grapefruit aroma to follow. The finish has an interesting graphite pencil smell in the finish.

T- The light dry tartness of coriander and lime hops note leads to a dry finish with just a bit of hops bite and a circus peanut ester note in the finish aswell.

M- The medium-light mouthfeel has a gentle fizz that fill the mouth after each sip.

O- The nice tartness and subtle hops are good to the finish without being too dry and a good yeast character adds a unique flavor to this beer.

This beer comes in a slightly hazy golden yellow with a finger head.

The aroma has that has banana, clove, a bit lemon, wheat. Maybe a hint of bubble gum.

The flavor follows with that aroma and traditional weizen flavors. You get a good banana in the front with that spice and then a touch of bubble gum for the body.

Being a kristalweizen, it pushes towards a lighter body. The interesting thing is that you get a sourness in there too for some reason. It's like a sour or off fruit flavor, which was confusing and sort of a minus for the beer.

Still, a very refreshing and delicious beer. I do think Weihenstephaner does a better job, but this is quite good still.

Best before: 29JUL2013

A: Slightly hazy golden-amber-yellow with a bright white, fizzy, bubbly head that fades quickly and leaves behind very little lace or retention. Just liquid after a minute or so.

S: Plenty of lightly toasted malt and some clove and such that you get from a Hefe. Some barny aromas.

T: Similar to the nose. Lots of delicious malt with a nice bite and overall flavor you'd expect from the style.

M: Super smooth, good body, and proper carbonation.

O: I wish I was able to try this fresh rather than so close to the best by date but it was very tasty nonetheless. I'd drink it again.

Appearance: Quite clear. Darker than I expected, but nice orange tones to the color.

Smell: Fruity esters for sure. Bananas.

Taste: Surprisingly sour! Caught me off guard at first as the sour flavors dominate the typical smooth and fruity wheat profile. But it's well balanced with the rest of the beer - by no means an intense sour ale. The play of the sour flavors with the yeast keeps the beer crisp and interesting throughout. Quite a unique and interesting take.

Overall, I appreciate the unique spin (though I don't really know what to expect from a Kristalweizen) on a summer beer to make a refreshing-but-intriguing beverage.

On tap in an Imperial pint glass (sic).

A- The dimly lit pub afforded me this view; a golden orange color with brilliant highlights and an unfiltered(?) look. The barkeep filled the glass to the rim resulting in a slim whitehead that left some lacing.

S- Lemon, banana, spice, some sour yeast. Subtle notes of fruit and spice, nothing too forward.

T- Like the aromas with a some unexpected sweetness.

M- Light and refreshing, good carbonation. Tart and sour as it warms.

O- This was new to me and I enjoyed it.

16oz can poured into a a weizen glass. Best before July 23, 2013.

A: Pours a hazy golden orange with a decent off white head. The head sticks around for a minute or two, not much lacing on the glass. Lots of visible carbonation visible in the body.

S: Loads of banana yeastiness up front. Good german hefe characteristic. Pale malts make up the backbone. Hint of tartness in there as well.

T: Quite a tasty and refreshing summer flavor. The wheat comes through nice and strong but there is also a very tasty sour note to this as well. Reminds me of a berliner weiss beer mixed with a hefe.

M: Light body that feels a touch thin. Not as full as some of the other wheat beers out there but the lightness gives it high sessionability. Crisp mouthfeel that is very refreshing.

Overall I am very impressed with this brew, was not expecting that light sour taste. Give this one a go, after having two I grabbed two more 4-packs.

Pours a very hazy dark orange/brownish color with a foamy 2-3 finger off white head that was packed with exploding little bubbles as the head dissipated rather quickly and left basically no lacing.

Smells like yeast, clove, lemon zest, banana, husk, wet grass, grains, earthy spices and some citrus notes; seems like a malty sweetness with fruit mixed in, and almost like a sweeter version of a hefeweizen – smells really nice.

Tastes of yeast, lemon zest, banana, clove, husk or vegetables, wet grass, biscuit, beer soaked wheat bread, toasted grains, flowers, spices like pepper and coriander, tea leaf, a little bubblegum and some sour fruit like an old grape or a very soft apple that’s been sitting around a long time; almost tastes more Belgian than German, but either way it has a nice mix of fruit, yeast and mild floral hops.

Mouthfeel is tart and oddly smooth at the same time, with a medium body, mild carbonation that’s fizzy and like a prosecco, and it trails off with a slightly sour dry finish.

Not as light and crisp as I thought it would be, but the aroma and taste make up for the summery lightness that I was expecting. Overall a very tasty and interesting beer, definitely a beer I could session and one I recommend trying...it’s a rare style and any hefeweizen fan will likely really dig this brew.

A can reminiscent of piels. Pours a slightly hazey straw yellow. Big white head of soft and loose head, dissipating quickly.

Smells of cloves, old banana peel, sweat, some slight husky graininess and grass.

Taste is much the same. Light body with a bit of wheat malt and grain husks. Big yeast in back with some mild hop bitterness. The end is filled with cloves and bits of banana and chewing gum that you'd get at the ballpark. The aftertaste lingers seemingly forever. A bit of tart but not sourness towards the end, combined with black pepper.

Body is light and carbonation is crisp. The bubbles seen sharp on the tongue. Hides the alcohol.

A simple and good brew, very nice on a hot day.

A: Pours a cloudy/hazed golden/orange...this is a Krstalweizen? This does not look filtered at all. At first a two finger white head forms, then noisely fizzes out in a second. No lace.
S: Banana bread, and toffee. Big bubblegum aromas. Spicy phenolic, peppery yeast.
T: A sweetness up front, along with some banana bread. Again, big on the bubblegum flavors, along with a peppery yeast. Maybe a bit of sourness? Not crisp tart lemons that can be a great component in other wheat beers, but more like a bit of an acidic bite.
M/D: A light to medium body. Light on the carbonation, and pretty thin overall. Not nearly crisp enough. Not hard to drink, and I will finish this with ease. Though this does not make me want to come back again and again.

Not bad, just pretty average. Maybe I am spoiled cause there are a handful of great wheat beers made in Texas. This leaves me wanting.

a: This was a chill hazed golden straw color. It poured with the large but short-lived fizzy head.

s: Somewhat muted banana and clove with an odd additional fruit aroma that I cannot identify.

t: I have never tried the style of beer before. Frankly I didn't want to. This is better than I expected, but I love my hefes. Having said that, there was enough banana and cloves throughout plus a nice bubblegum finish to keep me interested.

m: Fairly full bodied but a little under carbonated.

Not my ideal summer beer I can respect what they were going for.

Appearance is nice with a hazy dark orange color and about a finger of head that dissipates quickly.

Smell to me was super sweet with a hint of floral

Taste followed suit with the smell like a sweet bubble gum when it first hits your tongue and almost overwhelms and then I picked up a hint of sour as it warmed in my mouth.

Decent carbonation but the beer had a thick feeling to it that I wasn't really expecting in a summer offering.

Overall I thought the beer was good but one that I probably wouldn't rush out to the store to buy again.

Sixpoint Brewery - Apollo - Pint Can

Look - Pours a slightly hazy pale golden orange with some amber. Full foamy head that dissipated quickly leaving rings of sticky lacing. Great looking brew.

Smell - Bubblegum sweet, fruity banana/pear/apple with some spice (clove/nutmeg) and an ever so slight hint of hops or sour yeast.

Taste - Deep rich fruity same as the nose with a Belgian-type sour tart yeast. Taste is good, but perhaps a bit off and cloying, not sure I understand this flavor. I had heard they changed the recipe and/or wanted to recall it, but I'm judging as-is and I will change it if they fix this next time around.

Mouthfeel - This has a light and refreshing feel. No booziness, great drinkability. Definitely a Summer brew.

Overall - The taste is different for sure, but this is a good Summer seasonal nonetheless.

Had on-tap at The Local Miami. Served in a Florida Beer Co. tapered pint.

A- Pours a semi-hazy amber color with a 1/2 inch white head that retains well before becoming a thick ring around the edge of the glass and light swirls of surface foam. Thick and resilient lacing. But there are no crystals floating in the body like I remember seeing when I had Weihenstephaner's Kristalweizen way back in the day.

S- Yeasty, slightly effervescent aroma with notes of banana and bubble gum. Also has a slight medicinal quality.

T- Taste is even more medicinal and funky with notes of green olive, metal and a hint of banana. Pretty smooth overall but doesn't really harmonize like it should. Somewhat tart.

M- A bit tangy and semi-dry with medium carbonation and a solid wheat body.

O- Though I don't know what a true kristalweizen should taste like, this is a pretty enjoyable wheat beer with more good characteristics than bad.

Pours a honeyed orange with a big foamy head. It dissipates, but leaves some lace. The color of this is gorgeous.

Big banana and clove notes, the most I've smelled in a domestic effort at this or any traditional German style. Some yeasty sweet wheat in there as well.

Big Clove/banana/bubblegum note up front. Not thin or watery, but a little loose compared to German counterparts. Good grain and fruit, a light tart bite, some raw grain, honeyed notes, and moderate bitterness to close the deal.

Lighter bodied, a little thin.

Decent beer. I know people are bitching about this compared to last year's batch. I still dug it. I think it is definitely heavy on spice and fruit, but it still is a very nice beer.

On the box, it says: Best by July 29, 2013:

Thanx to a non-BA for this going away present:

Into a weizen:

A: somewhat hazy yet clear yellow/orange body, one finger white foamy head that rapidly dies, some carbonation is seen rising

S: bubblegum up front, some light malts coming through very sweet, slight banana/yeasty aroma trying to come through, some light cloves are there too

T: very sweet (bubblegum) and malty, slight banana/yeasty and banana aftertaste, dry finish

M: medium, semi-sessionable, adequate carbonation

O: as much as I`ve been wanting to try this for a long time I`m actually slightly disappointed as I`ve had all 4 and this is just me: though I`m not an expert on kristalweizens, it seems as though there`s just too much "bubblegum" all around, mostly just an average kristalweizen IMO, I`d seek out other "kristals" before this one

On tap at Kickbacks in Jax. Poured into a snifter. Fluffy, large white head, high retention. Slightly hazy, golden body, with soapy, sticky lacing. Aroma includes banana, bubble gum and banana taffy. Taste includes similar flavors. Certainly slightly different than a hefe, more hazy than expected for a kristal but overall quite tasty and I would think easy to drink for amateurs and beer geeks alike.

Pours gold, with surprisingly little haze. Modest bar-pour head hat settles to rim bubbles. Good streaky lace.

Sweet, soft wheat aromas on the initial smell.

Fruity in many ways. The wheat flavor is subdued but very present. Subtle banana and coriander/clove notes. Full bodied with a heightened carbonation. In many an arch-typical wheat beer.
