Poured from a 16oz can into a duvel tulip.

A: pours a slightly browned hazy golden with a little over two fingers of puffy off white head that dissapates slowly, and leavs a touch of lacing.

S: bananas, wheat and cloves, I would say the bannana deffinatly is the most dominant aroma over a touch of citrus and slightly toasty wheat, a bit of Clove and earthyness there as well. Along with a touch of bubble gum.

T: much like the nose bananas are dominant with an interesting tart funk in the middle, even more bannana on the finish, deffinatly wheaty as well. A good balance of flavors, this particular brew just isn't really my style... But I love the way the bannana and clove are not overwhelimg here.

M: light medium body with medium crisp carbonation, deffinatly drinkable.

O: a good beer, I just don't think I enjoy the style, the flavors are all well balanced, nice mouthfeel.... Just not something I would get excited about. But deffinatly very good for the style.

Pours a dirty straw color with a big moderate bubbled head that quickly settles into a light ring leaving some of those big bubbles on the side of the glass.

The aroma is of a true bavarian hefe. Noticable banana aroma, both ripe and unripe. The unripe banana and lemon notes gives the aroma a light tart edge. Some musty clove. A bready malt scent as well.

The taste is of bananas; again both ripe and unripe. There also is some lemon and metal that gives the beer a tart twang. Substantial wheat malt presence that gives the hefe a bready base. Some brown sugar sweetness.

Good balance between sweet and tart. Perhaps a bit more tart than the average hefe. Lightly astringent in the finish, not super creamy.

A solid hefeweizen. Not sure about the Krisalweizen classification as the beer is a bit murky and brown. Most Kristalweizens that I have seen are more pale in color with a slight haze.

Poured into hefe glass from can. Really nice burnt orange color with a slight haze. Thick sticky head. Smells amazing...wheaty clove and banana malts. Taste is of major banana and clove and wheat. Its so fresh and crisp and easy drinking. This is a fantastic brew!! Another amazing sixpoint brew!

16oz can (best by Aug 18, 2012) poured into a Los Gatos Brewing weizen glass.

A - Pours a medium orangey golden color with two fingers of fluffy white head with good staying power. Head slowly fades away leaving some foamy, sticky lacing on the glass. Fairly dark on the color spectrum for the style and still showing a bit of haze.

S - Extremely strong banana aroma up front here...pretty dominant to the point of killing most everything else. A touch of cloves, hints of wheat barely make an appearance.

T - Banana is dominant in the flavor too...however it does leave room for other flavors to have some impact. Surprisingly tart at the start of each sip and lingering past the swallow. Wheat is quite noticeable giving a firm base, remaining grainy and somewhat sweet and wortlike. Mildly yeasty despite the filtration. A very robustly flavored wheat beer.

M - Tart up front and lingering creating a salivating effect after each swallow. Very fruity/banana'y/estery. Firm wheat base that is grainy and sweet. Carbonation is high and prickly as it should be.

O - Overall, a very good wheat beer. Difficult to find American versions with this much flavor intensity to them. Blindly, I would have guessed this was of German origin. Didn't have much for expectations when I bought this, but glad I did...will be going back for more.

It has been a while since I had tasted Apollo from a tap, so when I noted its arrival in cans, I must admit to being mildly skeptical of its prowess.

The first time I tasted this beer was at the Sixpoint Brewery in Brooklyn in April 2007 after the brewery tour while we hung out with the brewers at the Liberty. The Apollo was magical then, but after that, subsequent barrels just didn't hit it for me and sometimes they were plain worthless. I didn't taste again after a few more times in hopes that the old magic and cloudy beer would return....

Fast forward to May 2012. The white and gold can of Apollo poured very well with a full nose of banana and vanilla really begging me for the first taste. It was simply magnificent when I got to the first taste as the spirited carbonation and the huge flavor came bounding out of my glass.

The magic had returned and so did my optimism for Sixpoint's products. I liked the other cans, but the Apollo had been the one for me. It resonated with my history as it captured the style guidelines for this beer.

This will clearly be one of my best beers of the upcoming Summer.

A. A very hazy, opaque dark gold with some foamy white head and a little bit of lacing, though not much. Bubbly with some sediment.

S. It smells like banana and a hint of wheat.

T. True to the scent, it has a banana bread taste to it. There's a mild tartness to it. Some sweet honey/lemon. But it real feels like banana bread.

M. Very refreshing and has a bit of carbonation.

O. I thoroughly enjoy this beer. I'm not always the biggest fan of summer wheats, but this is truly exceptional.

Eager to try this new brew. Poured into my Southampton weizen glass. Pours slightly hazy straw with a big 3 finger rocky head fading a bit and leaving excellent clumps of lacing on the glass. Clarity is kind of in between a hefeweizen and a kristalweizen.

Aroma is heavy on the banana which is a-ok in my book. Lush banana with a little bit of a tart wheat and yeasty cracker.

Flavor follows. Loads of banana up front mixed with bubble gum. A little bit of a cracker bready malt in the middle before finishing with another wave of banana backed with just a touch of clove. Despite the big flavors up front, it finishes crisp and dry. This one is perfectly balanced.

A little chewy, but overall still a very light beer with a medium level of carbonation.

I'm kind of hit or miss on Sixpoint, but this is a big hit. They nailed the perfect balance for this style. Clove is present but stays in the background and lets the banana shine through. The other 3 cans of this are going with me to the Indy 500 as I can't think of too many other canned beers that will be more refreshing than this.

Received as an extra in a trade from a Ratebeer member from Ohio.
Thanks, Jeff!
Not available in VT until next week.

Poured into my 0.5 L. Weihenstephaner glass

A: Slow pour yields a chunky 2 in. head with chunky lacing.
Golden and a little hazy.

T: I fell into a banana boat! Cloves and slight peppery yeast.
Crisp citrusy finish.

M: Light to medium body with nice smooth carbonation.

O: Highly sessionable. Reviewing this well after dinner, but would really love to sit around a picnic table cracking Old Bay smothered blue claw crabs with a 4- pack of these!
Also would be excellent as a palate cleanser in a Leipziger Gose kind of way to drink at a Barleywine or Impy Stout tasting.
Hmmm... time to make that list of invitees.

16oz can with a freshness date on the bottom.

LOOK: Bright golden hue, ring of lacing all the way down

SMELL: Bready, powdered clove, bubblegum, banana taffy, honeydew melon rind, grassy

TASTE: Smooth, crisp snap, moderate body, bread crust, green banana, lemon, clove, peppery, crackers, dry finish

Wow ... wow. Sixpoint pretty much nailed this one, did they rough-up some old German brewmasters for the secret recipe? I've only had a handful of this style but this clearly at the top. Congratz guys, you have a winner here.

16 oz. can poured into a mug

a - slight haze with a golden appearance and a tight finger head

s - banana, banana, banana. hint of clove with some vanilla + citrus barely registering on the smell threshold.

t - the taste profile way softer than the smell would. much of the same banana, but more in balance with the malt and other flavors.

m - medium body with spritzy carbonation.

o - a nice kristalweizen. the softer flavors of the beer make it especially more quaffable as you're not hit in the head multiple times with the hefeweizen yeast flavors. rather you're given a gentle hint of them with every sip.

16oz can into a pint (so what?) glass. Best by Aug. 18th 2012

A- Pours a golden-orange with an inch or so of white head. Leaves nice lacing.

S- Awesome fruity esters. Banana and orange mix with a presence of cinnamon, clove, and a good amount of bready yeast.

T- Big punch of banana and yeasty bread up front followed by waves of cinnamon and clove. Just a touch of bitterness (and tartness?) on the back end. This is a fantastic tasting beer.

M- The only shortcoming of this brew lies here. Extremely carbonated. So aggressive that it blasts the flavors off of my tongue too quickly for me to fully appreciate them.

O- I am going to be drinking this beer all Summer...especially between shipments of Dancin' Man. This is as close as I've encountered to replicating that flavor and I love it. Thanks for bringing this to the Midwest Sixpoint!

16 ounce can, had a best before date on the bottom, but I cant read it, all smudged up...oh well they get points for trying.

Poursmedium hazed lighter amber, near dull golden, creamy off white head, goes to a satin sheen, low sheeting and fine fields of lacing.

Nose is loaded with tropical fruits, especially bananas.

Fruity and flavorful wheat, more bananas and other tropical notes, moderate sweetness, with a very minor hop presence.

As it warms, notes of sweet malts and honey enter the party, nice wheat from sixpoint, in a can for easy summer portability. Def will be purchasing more of this one as things warm up in a few months.

The only other Kristal I've had is absolutely nothing like this offering, so I think Apollo definately deviates from the style. For me, this was a Berliner Weiss. And a damn fine one at that! The abv is higher than a Berliner but it was well hidden and should be at 5.2%. Great tartness with some very nice complexities including banana, vanilla and maybe, just maybe, some cinnamon. This was a $5 can at the most expensive place in town (GCT) and at that price I'd drink this all day...I'll search it out for less coin and drink
It all night too...
