pours beautifully, a nice 2 fingers of head just sits there like a photo, slow crackle of fizz matches the lazy carbonation slithering up from the nether regions of the brew, not quite opaque this one rides the line between brown and black, lacing is superb and head retention is very nice, nearly flawless looking
that familiar baltic porter "stale" smell is right on, dry baby dry, a touch of malt and powdered cocoa, deep coffee notes meld into chocolate wafts .. borderline candy bar but not going over the edge, nice! very balanced
the carbonation is a bit bright and upfront here, I find it distracting (it doesn't seem smooth), the booze is apparent but masked just enough to not slam you, the coffee flavor lingers nicely but not strongly, I was surprised, I was expecting a little more coffee umph, it seems the trick here is to hold this in the mouth a little longer than usual, than the flavors really seem to release, I drink strong ass coffee so this is OK in my book as it also finishes with some nice bitterness
I am at odds... this is so close to being a home run. The carbonation and mouthfeel really kill it for me, if this was a bit creamier or smoother in some manner it would rock, that said this is a very interesting beer and worth your while seeking out to try, t definitely makes a statement, like it or not.
