I've had a few great Baltic Porters before, but this one is exceptionally interesting. It pours into a beautiful light head with perfect lace and a pretty much opaque blackness. The lace just keeps on coming too.
The aroma is complex - roasty, malty, coffee, all mixed together nicely. The taste is similar - a nearly sublime balance, and enough bitterness underneath it all to warrant all that extra stuff. The coffee fixes what's often wrong with this style by distracting from the strength of the hops and malt flavor. Ah, and I failed to mention that under all this it is a very alcoholic beverage and it makes no apologies for this.
As it warms the coffee aroma becomes more pronounced. The chocolate taste, by the way, is nicely balanced way below most of the rest of the flavors. This may be the best coffee flavored brew I have ever had. Hurray for Sixpoint!
