This place is right off of 376, so I like to make a visit whenever I'm in the area.

Atmosphere: typical small sports bar with a separated restaurant area with the beer cave in the back. the bar area is fairly breezy and cold in the winter. its a nice area with a good crowd.

Selection/Quality: one of the biggest and best in town. however, since there are a lot of people in the area that love beer and know this place, better beers don't stay long. Still, if you visit, you'll definitely be able to find something interesting that you haven't had. I was able to get Ballast Point Victory at Sea and Brooklyn Black Ops here, both of which i've never seen anywhere else. The bar also has a lot of great beers on tap. I got Unibroue Terrible and Great Divide Belgian Yeti

Beers are a bit pricey

This place falsely advertises as a six-pack store when it is not. IT IS A SINGLES STORE!!!!! It's owners are clearly interested in selling single bottles to greedily garnish the markup they can demand on singles. Yes, they have a large selection of beers, but who wants to pay an average of $3.50 per bottle? IT'S ALL ABOUT THE MONEY!!! One six-pack I had to build of Lagunitas Little Sumpin' cost me more than $2 than I've paid at multiple other locations! IT SHOULD BE $2 LESS AS I HAD TO SUPPLY THE LABOR TO BUILD IT!!! Another six I built cost me over $18 for beers I later found near my town selling for six prices at around $11. The term HIGHWAY ROBBERY clearly fits here as when one travels to far off places one likes to acquire beers not found in his hometown.

The selection is extensive, but look carefully at the bottle dates. Stuff like Troegs Perpetual and Head Hunter has always been fresh, but the more exotic stuff, like Firestone Walker Double Jack, can be more than a year old. For the most part I think the prices are reasonable. The person below that said there is a 10% six pack discount is incorrect, the discount is $1 off all to go bottles. Standard stuff like Sierra Nevada and Stone is $3/bottle, so a good mix and match 6-pack can be $12. There are some egregious prices, like $39.95 for Older Viscosity and $14 for Wulver, but thankfully it doesn't appear that people are buying those. There are probably 20 draft lines and they are usually solid, but not overly exciting. The food is hotdogs, pizza and a few sandwiches and other miscellaneous items. It's not high quality stuff, but it's sufficient as long as you don't go in expecting a gourmet meal. Overall, I wish there were better options in the area but I spend plenty of time here.

Also, upstairs at The Loft there is a great happy hour with half-priced drafts from 6-8, which is the latest happy hour I've seen. The draft list is different and less extensive up there, but can sometimes have some really good stuff.

Stopped by D's after hearing they had one of the best selections of bottles in Pittsburgh. Didn't try the food. Headed straight through the people sitting at their tables to get to the Beer Cave.

Cave is a good name for it. Just like in a real cave, there was no cell phone reception in the Beer Cave. That was a problem for me because being from out of town, I was not familiar with many of the beers they had on the shelves, and I wanted to look up the ratings. Had to walk back outside!

I was looking for some specific beers, but there was no one in the Cave to help me, so I was left to my own devices. Beer is divided by continent, essentially. One wall is for PA beers, appropriately. They had a small selection called Seasonals that had some interesting choices. Saw some Lost Abbey and Port Brewing. I don't believe those breweries distribute to PA.

The prices are ridiculously high, even when you count the 10% six pack discount. Most PA cans and bottles I saw were around $3 per bottle. Full Pint Rye Rebellion was $5 for one 12oz bottle. Maybe I'm not familiar with the Pennsylvania beer selling rules, but I was thrown by the high prices.

Bottom line: Selection is average from my experience (maybe for Pittsburgh it's great?). Prices are shockingly high. I will keep looking for a good bottle shop in Pittsburgh.
