This place has great beer and food! The sandwiches and burgers are fantastic and they have a great selection of beer along with their own line of beer! Head Hunter IPA is a must when you go here. It is an excellent IPA! They have an assortment of food to order. If you ever visit Pittsburgh, PA head down to South Side for Fat Head's Saloon! You won't be disappointed!

Amazing selection of food. I've never had a bad meal here. It's around $6.00 for a beer on draft which is a little high, but could be higher, however the Fat Head brews are great. Try the southside slopes sandwich, also the chicken parmesean soup is so good if they have it when you go there.

Place was busy when we arrived. (Around 5 on a Saturday night). Bar area was filled but bartenders were still available. Beer selection on tap was varied and all unique and many more on bottles. Food was decent (pub food) but I didn't really go there for the food. Head Hunter was very good. I look forward to going back.

This is probably the go-to beer spot in Pittsburgh located right on the main bar street on the south side.
Really nice selection of their own beers that is complimented by a similarly nice selection of other beer from the likes of Great Lakes, DFH, Troegs, SN and others.
Had wings which were very good as was the service. This is defintiely worth a visit if you are in Pittsburgh, especially if you have never had Head Hunter IPA.
This bar is also a very good size so there are no issues getting a seat here.

I've been going here since the mid 1990's, and we still try to make it at least once a month. I've seen a few celebrities make the trip to Fatheads over the years (saw Russel Crow there a few years ago, and the waitress said he was there the day before, but he liked it so much he came back the next day).
The beer selection has always been over the top. There are two chalkboards over the bar with the draft listing, which lately has been including a lot of Fat Head's Brewery choices (which are typically world class options). They also always have something on "cask". If you haven't been living under a rock, you have likely heard of Head Hunter IPA, and they almost always have it available on tap. And the bottle selection is no slouch, either. The beer menu is updated often, and they almost certainly will have something to suit your tastes and mood.
As if the beer selection itself isn't enough to get you in here when in Pittsburgh, the food is wonderful. The burgers are some of the best I've had (although another Pittsburgh option for burgers is Burgatory, which are good as well, but no where near the beer choices). The wings are also great - they offer both traditional wings and char-grilled wings. I am a heat freak and love the Char Grilled Caribbean Killers. In the traditional wing arena, the Spicy Parmesan wings are amazing as well. There are plenty of other options to choose from outside of the burger arena, and I've had many of them and disliked none. You should be warned - the sandwiches and everything else served here are HUGE. You should bring an appetite, and maybe skip the extra appetizer until you see how full your plate will be - save the extra $$$ for another brew!
The service is consistently great, particularly considering how busy they usually are. But, you will inevitably have to wait 30-60 minutes for a seat if you come on a weekend. That said, they have somehow kept much of the wait staff for years (one lady that works there has been serving us since we got engaged in 2001). In all the years we have come here, there have been maybe 2 times we were disappointed in the service (which says something, considering we really do go here 10-15 times a year).
Finally, there is a six-pack shop upstairs in which you can get some beer to go and some Fathead's paraphernalia. The beers up there are relatively pricey, but most places that offer beer to go do charge a premium.
If you are in Pittsburgh and want to find a place the locals go to, this is it. You can find parking back a street (go down 18th off of Carson and there is a pay lot right there). If you are going to be there for a while, you might want to drive along the road parallel to Carson and see if you can find a spot - but be warned the locals sometimes block off spots with chairs or cones. All that said, if you are in from out of town, I highly recommend getting a cab and making a night of it. There are a metric F*ck-ton of other establishments all around the South Side of Pittsburgh, and you can walk to all of them - just have the driver drop you off at 18th and Carson.

Fat Head's in Pittsburgh, PA is the place to be for good food and good beer. The Saloon is crowded on game days. The atmosphere is fantastic. The Head Hunter IPA is just outstanding. The service is good and the food is excellent. A great Pittsburgh bar and a great experience.

ok, so the bar will get packed... but who cares. i dont know what to talk about first - the food or beer... so i guess the beer. GREAT selection and if its not too busy the bartenders have no prob dishing out samples. as for the food, its out of this world. must go to in your in the 412

Yeah, Fathead's is a good spot. Just probably not my kind of spot. Can easily get crazy busy and the whole sports bar thing just doesn't do it for me. Especially not in a chain kind of way. Selection is diverse, yep. Lots of stuff to try. I wouldn't mind a heaver selection of local options on-tap.

I went to Fat Heads several times while living in Pittsburgh within the past year.
Food - The Menu is heavy on typical pub/bar food, offering numerous sandwiches, burgers, "munchies", steak, etc... The quality however, is much higher than your typical hole in the wall pub or local watering hole. While it is by no means the best food I have ever had I did enjoy the Sandwich and Pierogies I ate and think that Fat Heads does a nice job sprucing up and altering familiar offerings.
Beer - Wide selection capturing a variety of different styles that will likely please the pallets of nearly any Beer Drinker (although I am not sure of how often they offer some of the "rarer" beers but for my purposes the selection is top notch). I also really appreciate the fact that they update their Beer Menu online daily so that you can plan when you want to visit based on the beers they have available.
Service - Service is on the whole fine. There are times when it can be quite crowded and you can expect to wait for a table or be forced to stand around the bar rather than find a seat on a stool. Service thus varies in my experience, sometimes slower but I have never had any outrageous waits for either food or ordering a beer.
Miscellaneous - Nice, but small and slightly pricey bottle shop located above the restaurant and bar that also sells neat merchandise such as shirts or mugs. Parking can be a hassle since you typically must try and find street parking somewhere off of the main drag on the South Side. One time I had to park many many blocks away on a Friday night.
Overall - One of the best beer bars in Pittsburgh as far as selection is concerned. a MUST try for anyone even remotely interested in trying new/different beers or people looking to revisit old favorites.

Visited this restaurant on a beatiful weekend in June.
The place was packed, probably the busiest place on East Carson all-day. We got there just before a long line formed outside the front door.
The draft beer selection is glorious. Lots of local brews, and lots of hard to find US craft beers. I tried the North Coast Pranqster Belgian Strong Pale Ale (out of this world) and their resident Fathead's Sorcerer Belgian Strong Dark Ale.
The food menu was good. I was expecting greasy bar-food for the most part. It was pretty diverse, although not quite as hippie-influenced (I actually don't mean this in a negative way) as some other similar eateries.
Their Bay of Pigs sandwhich was fantastic. Basically a Cuban sandwich, but with their extra-spicy barbecue sauce (I was warned that it would be very hot). They do have a milder sauce for those not interested in lots of pepper spice.
Great beer, great food, great atmosphere, all at a pretty good price considering the quality of the beer ($6 for a world-class draft is not a bad deal). I wish that I lived closer to this establishment.
