This bold and big bodied double strong bock is dark and malty with good hop character from German Tettnang and Hallertau varieties. A meal in a glass!

This is the 2009 brewing which they claim has been in the keg for five years. Unlike too many beers with residual sugar, this one is still sweet and clean. Attractive dark mahogany color with a nice sudsy foam in the half-pint glass. Plenty of spritziness on the tongue and it looked like a lively pour.

This stuff is really sweet, but that's part of the charm of this style. There is a load of molasses flavor with scorched caramel and a long bitterish aftertaste. The roasted malt is deep and dark. Fruity flavors of blackberry syrup and raisins. There's even some chocolate.

Quite sippable and seriously strong. These guys seem to tackle every style with success. On tap at the brewpub restaurant in downtown Anacortes.

Nice mahogany color with a wide but quickly dissipating head. A very malty aroma. A very tasty molasses, sweet alcohol and anise balanced with a little herbal hops. A bit of spice comes into play eventually. A very syrupy mouthfeel makes it all go down very easy.

To tell the truth, I haven't had an Anacortes beer in over a year since I had a growler filled reluctantly by their bartender and I had very poor service from a server. In conjunction with only a limited selection they were willing to fill the growler with and not liking what I bought, I decided to boycott them. This beer has changed my mind and I will have to go back and try they're seasonals, albeit when they're on tap at the local pub.

Aviator is one of the brews I look forward to every year. Served in a straight pint glass, the beer was a light mahogany color with a thin tan head that had low retention and lacing.

The aroma was the expected sweet and malty blend typical of the style. The taste was also what was expected from a good example of this style.

The body was full, without being heavy, and very smooth. Drinkability was very good for a strong beer, I could have 2-3, but probably not more than that. This beer is certainly worth your time if you see it and worth some effort to find.
