India Pale Ale's are turning into hoppy monsters, but our Iowa Pale Ale is more mild and about balance. It has enough bitterness to match the maltiness provided by the pale malt base and gets its citrus zing from extensive dry-hopping with Cascade hops. This beer was first made in a few small batches as a summer seasonal in 2003. The response was so incredibly positive that is has worked its way into a year round beer and became a favorite to many.

Grass, resin, citrus, a touch of fruit and a suspicion of tartness on the nose. Pours copper amber with a slight chill haze under a 1ā off-white foam cap. A dry, slightly astringent palate begins with malty graham cracker seasoned with a little fruit and finishes with a mild hop bitterness and a slight herbal taste. Medium body and carbonation.

Appearance: Porus a deep, mostly clear bronze/brown color with an amber hue. A nice and thick off-white canvas colored head. SRM of 14-16. Beautiful beer. (4.25)
Aroma: Mild to moderate aromas of light but deep wet orange and cantaloupe nectar. Deep earthy caramel sweetness underneath. (4.00)
Flavor: Flavor follows the nose with even more malts. Some orange, but a rather strong earthy caramel and malty milk backbone. Finishes smooth with minimal bitterness.
Feel: Moderate bodied. Low carbonation. Finishes smooth and somewhat creamy. Nice, smooth, and malty/milky finish.
Compared to Sierra Nevada Pale Ale 7/16/20: Pours a darker, bronze color. More malty aromas of caramel and cream. Less orange and pine soap. Less bite and more smooth overall. Hard to call a winner.
Overall: This pale ale impressed me. Nice earthy, malty notes. Leans sweet and smooth but not a bad thing. Great combination of flavor here. Malty, with just enough fruit, yet a smooth, milky finish which is excellent. More of a colder-weather pale ale and reminds me of a milder version of Founder's Centennial IPA. Similar flavors. Definitely worth coming back to. (Final Rating: 4.04)

I recently had this IPA on a boat in the Mississippi in a very relaxed dinner setting.
Look: hazy peach/orange with an inch thick white head
Aroma: caramel, citrus, tropical fruits, maybe some floral pine.
Taste: White bread, caramel, citrus/grapefruit/orange, grassy and pine bitterness at end.
Body/Overall: light to medium, mild, IBU 45, well balanced. But a bit too mild for me (compared to what I expect from an IPA).

Bready caramel malts with perfume smells of fruit and raisins. Hop flavors citrus and pine with early hop bitterness kick but blends into more malt domination by the end. Feel and carbonation is light to moderate. Id categorize as an amber ale or mild ale more than a pale ale.

12 oz bottle. Pours hazy light copper amber with a medium creamy white head that goes to a thin film that laces the glass some.
The aroma is sweet doughy caramel malts with some fruit and perfumy grassy hops.
The flavor is sweet bready caramel malts with some fruit and grassy hops. The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with smooth carbonation.
Overall, taste like a throwback pale ale from the 90s.

Poured a rich and hazy copper and amber color with a frothy 2 finger head that dissipated slowly. Moderate lacing. Aroma of fruit and citrus. Faint taste of bready malt with a balanced citrus and piney hop kick on the end. As someone else reviewed, the bitterness seems to increase as the beer warms. The beer has a moderate to thick feel, which is surprising as others described it as being a bit thin. Carbonation was light to moderate.

IPA pours rich amber color with fading head of light foam. Hoppy fruity aromas and flavor notes of candied orange, lemon, and complex floral & piney hops. Complex IPA with backbone of malty bready caramel that laces nicely with the hoppy bitterness. Best very cold as bitter intensifies as it warms.
