The name Schild Brau means essentially 'Schild Beer' in German. This is our flagship brew, a microbrew done in the style of the special beers of Munich. This beer is brewed in the style of a Vienna Lager.

Our beer uses these same malts to attain a perfect balance between malty sweetness and a firm bitterness.

A solid amber colored Vienna Style lager. The beer has a nice roasted malt backbone with only a touch of sweetness. The finish is crisp and refreshing. This has been one of my go to beers this summer since I first saw it in the grocery store a few months back. I fell in love with Millstream's Baltic Porter over the winter, this is another offering from the Amana, IA based brewery that does not disappoint.

Thanks again, Benny.

Actually a deep, clear medium red rather than amber, this beer has a nicely sized frothy head with big, loose bubbling that tightens up to a stiff cream that settles down to just less than a finger in height, retains itself well as it falls but very slowly, and leaves good deposits of patching on the glass.
Lots of malts in this one are toasty, primarily, balanced by grass. Even with a light touch of earth and the toasty dryness, It's a bit too sweet, as a whole lot of caramel shows up and dominates.
It's toasty and the malts make a good show, lots of crust and caramel that, unlike in the nose, isn't overwhelming. There's a light edition of grassy hops with a little bite of spiciness to it as well. Grains come on a little too strongly as it goes. All in all, it's a pretty good showing.
The body is medium, maybe on the lighter side but not too thin. Crispness is just active enough.

Crystal clear amber body with a thick, lasting, white head. Faint cereal-like aroma; bread crusts. Lightly toasted grain flavor with a smoothly bitter finish and softly warm malt flavor aftertaste. Medium body; clean and crisp.

A very drinkable, respectable amber lager. Perhaps it won't blow you away, but it certainly won't disappoint you either. Nice and refreshing.

A - Pours a clear amber with a two-finger white head. No lacing.

S - Light caramel malts and a small amount of earthiness.

T - Starts sweet with a heavy amount of caramel malts. The middle has a bready/cracker taste. Finish has a bitter hop finish.

M - Medium bodied with medium carbonation. Very easy drinking with a very clean mouthfeel.

O - A decent low ABV beer. Nothing mind blowing, just an easy drinking Lager.

Appetizer: amber darker though; lil or no head (but did pour into chilled pint glass); bouquet is pleasantly different (cant' make out the differing scent)

Entree: decent initial taste, hearty I would say, with mild-moderate aftertaste although a bit harsh, but does not linger too long.

Dessert: Since in Vienna style, nice that it's different, but have nothing to compare to (yet) either way as to meets / doesn't meet expectations.

Prognosis: thirst quencher it is, and not bad, just not overwhelmingly ___ (fill in the blank) or not overwhelming in any way.

Head dissipated quickly. Can not get past the sour aroma and sour taste. Will not buy again, but probably is just my personal preference for a more balanced, overall drinkable beer, without a major spike in one characteristic that you fixate on while drinking.
