Notes/Commercial Description:
The 'oatmeal' in the name is due the 5% oatmeal in the the grist of this brew. Oats give beer a real thick mouthfeel, something definitely desirable in a stout! Black malt and roasted barley give the beer its color, and coffee-like flavors. If you like thick full-bodied & smooth stout, this beer is for you!

A- Pretty darn near black with some brown highlights and a thick cocoa head that falls flat pretty quickly.
S- Aroma is mild of dark malt and sweet chocolate. Fairly sweet overall.
T- Quite sweet up front for an oatmeal stout. Sweet chocolate, a bit of cookie, a very light touch of smoke.
M- Smooth, medium body with low carbonation.
O- It's a perfectly fine beer, but not a beer that I'm likely to remember. Fairly tasty but relatively pedestrian.

Colony Oatmeal Stout pours dark brown, like any other stout, with a short-lived tan colored head. Its aroma is warm and comforting, with strong hints of coffee and chocolate. The flavor is sweet combination of caramel and chocolate. Nice. A strong coffeelike aftertaste fades quickly, earning this brew above average marks in the drinkability category. -- Overall, this is a decent stout and perhaps an excellent introduction for quaffers new to the style.

You think you know a thing or two about beer, until someone puts a bottle in your hand that reads "Oatmeal Stout Lager." Whodidthewhat? Howdidthehey? Huh.
Appearance: fully black, with a nice, burnt tan head.
Aroma: bitter and roasty, with fruity notes.
Texture is limpid, body and mouthfeel and everything else is light, light, light. Short finish. Drinks down extraordinarily smooth, but ...Actually, I have a hard time criticizing this. I could fault it for lacking the complexity, depth, or flavor of a good oatmeal stout, but it's an oatmeal stout lager. It is what it is. But I'm not sure why it is what it is.
Fruity notes emerge in the middle, and are appreciated.
Not a bad brew at all, but the lack of top-fermenting yeast did not please this stout-fan's palate at all, only left me yearning for a true stout.

Murky black with absolutely no head but has fizzy bubbly American Macro Lager carbonation ... strange but maybe not so considering it's a lager yeast... Dark roasty black patent malt aroma and taste; bittersweet dark chocolate and strong overbrewed black coffee character. Medium bodied with a strong dry roasty finish.

It's my opinion that the Lager yeast fails this one badly... more like a strong Dunkel.

12oz. bottle served in a standard pint glass. Poured the color of cola with a half inch khaki-colored head that crackled and popped as it slowly dissipated into a fairly solid, quarter inch skim. Nose is fairly subdued, but suggests molasses, brown sugar and a hint of acidic, dark fruit in the back. Taste follows nose, but there's also a slightly metallic quality towards the back. Mouthfeel is between light- and medium-bodied and a little overly effervescent for the style - a little watery and somewhat lacking in consistency. Decent brew, but some of the qualities are a bit off-style. Its not a bad brew, but not what I expect in an oatmeal stout.

Thanks to BuckeyeNation for the trade. Pours a very dark brown color that lets a little light through. Thin beige head that dissipated rapidly. Not much lacing until further down the glass. The aroma consists mainly of coffee as well as a touch of malt. Medium-bodied with a milky texture. Roasted coffee, malt and a touch of tart fruit in the flavor. The finish is smooth with a lightly bitter character. Nothing too exciting going on here, just a run-of-the-mill Oatmeal Stout you can find anywhere.

Poured from a 12 oz brown bottle into a Shaker pint. An undecipherable notching date system on the label. Received as a gift from my sister Tami.

A: Very dark brown with wispy beige head with average retention and a few lace forms.

S: The aroma provides some light roast, milk chocolate, and herbal hops.

T: The flavor is more enjoyable with more roast but not overdone, cocoa and dark chocolate, and pumpernickel crust. There is some bitterness to this brew, although I think it is more due to the roast and dark malts. It ends with a little bit of sourness in the aftertaste.

M: The oatmeal smoothness is counteracted by the overcarbonation which leaves too thin a finish.

O: Reasonably decent brew that I am glad I got a chance to try.
