Pours dark brown with an inch of head that quickly collapses; just a ring suggests the original inch of tan head.

Smell is all wrong: porter roasty malts with some assertive bitter hops, no sweetness, no balance.

Taste is poor as well: coffee with sour homebrew back, like it was brewed in rusty equipment or something.

Mouthfeel is poor as well: fizzy carbonation leaves teh tongue stinging rather than receptive.

Drank about a third; drainpour for the rest. Avoid.

A: orange-brown with a sandy thick head. excellent lacing throughout.

S: surprisingly non-descript for a DIPA. yes, hops were present but none biting, piney, citrus, etc. malt present which is a good sign of balance.

T: sweet slowly yielding away to bitter. I rather enjoyed Millstream's attempt to make a DIPA with more of a malt backbone than I'm used to seeing. The hops are there...they just do not overwhelm your palate.

M: Thick, well-carbonated.

D: Decent. Would definitely pick up again.

A - Very dark copper with an average to small, frothy, somewhat thick, fluffy, off-white head. Good retention with a nice lace remaining.

S - Bitter pine hop aromas with a strong caramel malt as well. A touch of citrus/lemony zest and some earthy aroma. A touch of herbal aroma also.

T - Similar to the aroma with plenty of caramel and bitter pine and herbal hops. Slight medicinal and astringent flavors. Slightly warming finish. Bitter and sweet mix.

M - Medium body with average carbonation. Warming slightly sticky finish.

D - Easy to drink, but I don't really see me wanting more. Plenty of bitter hops and caramel malt.

Notes: Somewhat reminds me of a barleywine. Not really a top tier DIPA. Pine, herbal, and earthy hops - but more bitterness from the hops than anything. Also very malt heavy. Doesn't really seem to fit the Millstream style.

Clear amber pour with a nice sized white head. Aroma was hop forward with quite a bit of malt to back it up, mainly toffee and caramel. The flavor isn't exactly pleasant. I couldn't detect more than just a bit of the hops, and it was more of a hop/soap combination with no real focus on what I enjoy in a DIPA. It was also overly malt forward with caramel and toffee dominating. Very harsh astringent finish, reminds me of eating an unripe persimmon. I was hoping for more from this, it would have been great to have another local IIPA in the rotation. As it is you have an overly malt forward beer that is too sweet mixed with a terrible hop profile. Add in the astringency and you have a drain pour; I didn't make it through more than a few sips of this. Maybe next time.

A: Brown beer with a medium tan, two finger head that tightens up quickly. It's clear, but not much active carbonation.

S: Hoppy, duh, with a mostly piney scent.

T: Again, piney, but very smooth and unoffensive. Not at all sharp.

M: Nice carbonation, though maybe a little high. Overall very smooth.

Shared with MasterSki, the last of the Iowa ticks.

A - A reddish-orange beer with brown, two fingers of head that left behind some decent lace.

S - A bit sugarry and caramelly for a DIPA. Lots of malts, notes of alcohol, floral hops in the backgrond.

T - This tastes a lot like a hoppy amber actually. Very sweet/carmel tasting, with a moderate hops character. This is pretty solid, if not off on the style, but fairly tasty.

M - Moderate carbonation with a medium bodied brew. Slighty sugary feel in the mouth.

D - Easy to get down, and fairly enjoyable. Not a bad beer.

Appearance: Straight pour into a tulip glass. The color is a copper or deep amber. Two fingers of eggshell colored head developed and dissipated to leave a thin and spotted lacing and a ring around the edge.

Smell: Typical grapefruit/orange citrus and pine spice, but it is much sweeter and less intimidating. Aromas of honey and caramel keep it tame, and I even got subtle hints of chocolate, too. Frankly, it's pretty malty for a DIPA. For whatever reason I am reminded of Millstream's last Oktoberfest. Ahh...sweet memories of football season.

Taste: The first couple sips are super sweet, much like over sweetened lemonade. Wow. However, as the palate adjusts the flavor beings to mirror the aroma -- albeit in a much sweeter way. Grapefruit and orange citrus, a little pine spice, honey, caramel, and a touch of chocolate. At the end of each sip there is a hint of black pepper spice, too. The sweetness level drops considerably as the beer warms (though it is still sweet) and the flavors create a tasty mélange.

Drinkability: Basically, this is a hoppier version of Millstream Oktoberfest. Oktoberfest is excellent, but I am not so sure about this hoppy edition. Though it has DIPA qualities, it is too sweet and malty to be true to style.

This beer pours a cloudy amber color with a lot of visible sediment floating around. The head is half an inch in height, and recedes quickly into minimal lacing. The aroma is of grapefruit, pine, and biomass. The taste is of rotten vegetables with some bitterness in the end. It is down right awful. The bitterness helps hide the rotten vegetables a bit, but they still take over and ruin the beer. The mouthfeel is full bodied with a smooth texture, and moderate carbonation. Overall, I will not be drinking this beer again, and based on the six beers I've had from Millstream I can't see myself trying any more of their beers in the future.

Thanks Dave.
Sweet fruit aroma that is not citrus - more like apple and strawberry. Pleasant, but certainly not intense in any manner. No hop oil quality or burning sensation to the eyes. Sweet fruit with mild malt background.
Looks like style. Dense thick off white head. Darker cloudy body.
Ample lacing.
Atypical hop presentation, although flavors are closer to traditional flavors than the aroma. Immediate warmth to the stomach, so it carries some alcohol. Rather complex hop flavors with earthy, grassy, mildly sweet, little flowery, little herbal, and some citrus that then lead to a growing but never overdone bitterness approaching grapefruit with tartness. Interesting. Full malt background adds heft to the body and support for the hops. Full nearly rich body with a big feel that seems on target for style. Gritty almost.
The aroma is the best part - nicely done and unique. The rest is more middle of the road, but on for style.
This is a pretty fine, acceptable and enjoyable beer. I'd have another without hesitation.

I poured this one into a shaker pint.

Appearance- The body is quite striking; a hazy amber- gold that just looks like a sticky caramel. The head is an off-white with a slight orange tinge. It is rather puffy and dies to just barely provide full coverage of the lid.

Smell- The hops are resin-like and has a little bit of citrus: orange and pineapple. The malt is a very sweet compliment to the hops.

Taste- Again, the flavor hops used have a bit of resin feel to them. There is also a hint of orange citrus in there, but it is not nearly as pronounced as it could be.

The malt is not overbearing, and compliments the hops quite well. It is sweet, honey-like almost. The problem with this palate is that the bittering hops are much more forward than the flavor hops.

Had that sweet citrus really popped, this DIPA would be so much better.

Mouth feel- The body is leaning towards medium, but this Millstream offering is not taking any prisoners with the finish. It is so incredibly bitter, which would be fine if it was just a little bit creamier and not quite this watery.

Overall- This DIPA is good, but not great. The bittering hops really take this beer over. Which is a shame, because there are certainly some good flavors beginning to come through. Now they just need to make it to the finish line.

It would also help if they could manage to make this one a little creamier.
