yellow n' beery from a 12oz bottle. a steady but scarsely populated highway of bubbles. no head once the initial pour has left... some collection of foam around the edges.

smell is light but sweet with malt.. some tart fruit as well.. maybe fresh apple? light and interesting.

goes down real easy and tastes pretty good. big clean nuttiness makes up the majority of the flavor here. some lactose in the finish, as well as mild banana wheat and some lemon. overall lagery goodness though, and i wish i had three more. the best beer by far i've had from this brewery.

Presentation: 12 oz brown bottle with what I presume to be a packaged on date on the side of the label.

Appearance: A thin lace is all that is left after a quick froth, great clarity yields a shinny golden hue.

Smell: Malty with a spicy wheat and hop mix, very clean as a lager should be.

Taste & Mouthfeel: Spice and soft fruit from the hops give a nice mild bite within the crispness, very malty with a clean and semi-dry palate. Light bodied with a perfect carbonation. Nice wheat malt twang in the finish.

Notes: Ultra refreshing, this is a hard labor beer … I crave a beer just like this after a hard days work.

Beer pours a filtered golden color with a quickly dissipating head. Lacing lasts throughout. A slightly grainy and hoppy aroma. Taste has a slight flavor of banana, hops are more prominent than typical wheat beers. Great carbonation and light to medium mouthfeel. I could drink these all night. This is not what I usually look for in wheat beers and am usually skeptical of american style wheat beers, but I really enjoyed this one and will be coming back to it again.

Had this on-tap from the Lava Lounge in Waterloo, Iowa..

Appearance: Pale golden/yellow straw color. Decent head as it was poured, but retention not so good...dies down to a thin cap rather quickly. Nice carbonation also.

Smell: Wheaty/grainy aroma, with a sweet lemon hint to it. Smell isn't as evident as I thought it'd be, but it smells good nonetheless.

Taste: The malt hits me right away and it tastes great. Very refreshing, light taste to the brew. Not complex at all, but simple sweet lemon taste and nice wheaty flavor.

Mouthfeel: I guess you'd consider this as having a light mouthfeel, even though it has a great, soft feel to it. The carbonation is superb..makes it extremely crisp and refreshing.

Drinkability: Good drinkability due to the very refreshing & light body and flavor. Would be a great summer brew.

Thanks to hero27.

A - Pours a straw yellow with a thin white head.

S - Apple and lemon with a spicy wheat malt backbone.

T - Green apple and lemon. Spicy with a wheaty pale malty finish.

M - Light and crisp.

D - Very refreshing. This would be a good lawn mower beer.

Package: 12oz. crowned brown “heritage” bottle; somewhere between a stubby and a longneck. Common “date scale” notched at January. No ABV information. Pleasant honey-colored label with grist mill logo.

Cost: Acquired via trade

Presentation: Shaker pint at ~45º

Appearance: A crystal clear, vibrant yellow with a touch of green apple. Generated a generous, but loose white head; that resolved quickly down to a floating skim.

Smell: Grainy and fruity and straightforward. Clean and crisp notes of malt and hops.

Taste: Light and sparkly, with green apple crispness, some sweetly cereal-like notes, and a faint spiciness. Some wheat-like flavors, but I’m not sure I’d have picked this out as a “wheat lager” if blindfolded. Finishes very quickly and cleanly.

Mouthfeel: Like the other Millstream beers I’ve had, this is on the watery side. It’s more apparent here than in the oatmeal stout, which offers more intense flavors. Carbonation is gently fine.

Drinkability: Easy drinking with an interesting, but diluted flavor profile. Interestingly, I liked some of the flavors in this more than some other wheat ales, but I just wanted more of them.

Backwash: I don’t know if I’d go out of my way to find this beer, but it’s a solid, enjoyable quaffer I’d be more than happy with if I were local.

Soft and light canary yellow color, frothy foamed bright white head about a finger high emerges, fizzes away rather quick and leaves a small collar; small spotty lacing drips back in. Aroma is faint and drab but clean and semi-crisp of wheat bread sweetness and softer bubblegum notes. Taste is soft and semi fruity with a nice wheat malt sweet base, crisp, clean, subdued bready softness and drying quality in the finish. Feel is soft and semi sweet, lighter bodied and clean, yet keeping a firm malt base making for a creamier and smoothing slick drinkability. A nice little lager done right. Thanks to mentor for the many Millstream samples!

Straw colored with lots of fine-bubbled carbonation. The head is full and, but dies quickly. Aroma is fruity with some bubblegum background and a little skunky. Mouthfeel is smooth and watery. Taste is lightly sweet with little to no hops present. Well balanced, but not very exciting. Would be a very refreshing summer drink, but not a memorable experience.

Pours a brilliant gold (deep straw) in color and with ample visible carbonation. A medium pour produces an off-white head of short duration and with minimal lacing. Sweetish, bready nose, loaded with pale and wheat malt notes. There's almost no hop profile, but there i a bit of spicey tanginess. Soft, mildy-sweet, and bready complexion on the first sip. Some spiciness (lager yeast, interesting) and a touch of metallic tang, and a barely evident bitterness. Bready malt characteristic lingers nicely, as does the metallic tang. In other words yes, the metallic quality in a beer can sometimes be pleasant! Mouthfeel is good, smooth and creamy, with good carbonation. Closer to medium-bodied, but not too-heavy to session. Lightly tangy and with a very light citrus quality, a blend of orange and lemon. Medium-dry finish, alhough some will find it a bit sweet. This is a bit like a fuller-bodied version of what Leinekugel's Honey Weiss would taste like without the addition of corn syrup and "honey". A very agreeable beer, and definitely sessionable given today's 90+ degree heat.

A good pour brings a bad head...it just about disappeared as soon as the beer was poured. A glassy golden-yellow color with very mellow bubbles. Far from impressive-looking.

A sweet aroma brings grass/hay freshness, caramel corn and pear sweetness. Would be nice if the flavors came out more, you really have to pull it in to get anything, but what's there is nice.

The sip delivers a distinctive pear flavor with lingering sweetness in the finish...not exactly dry, not sticky either. The wheat comes through in a fresh, bready sort of flavor, and there's nothing here that's offending or "off". Really solid.

Mouthfeel is on the thin side, with moderate carbonation. Does well enough considering the style and its flavors.

This one wins purely on flavor, when you're in the mood for a lighter lager that doesn't resort to typical macro-lager weakness.

Part of a sampler case, brought back direct from the brewery at Amana, Iowa.
Pours a straw yellow color, slightly hazy, with a thin white head. Fresh smells of wheat and some citrus and lemon. Decent pale wheat ale flavor, with citrus and nice wheat taste. Light body, well carbonated with a crisp finish. A great hot-weather, easy drinking brew.

12 ounce bottle. Millstream Wheat Lager has very pale yellow color with some tiny suspended particles. No head. Clean malty aroma. Light hops. Not an intense aroma, but still good. The flavor is light with crisp wheat and some hop spiciness. Just a bit of citrus flavor. Finishes with a light honey flavor and more hops. Small bubble carbonation. Mouthfeel is light to medium. I enjoyed this beer. It's a good choice for when you want a simple, crisp lager.

Twelve ounce brown twist cap. Month notched on label, on indication if its month of bottling, or best buy.

Pale straw gold colour, brish medium sized bubbles seek out freedom. Topped by a thin white head that quickly falls.

Herbal hop aromas & tart lemony notes.

Crisp & tart, herbal hops & lemony notes along with a honey like sweetness. Medium bodied, moderate carbonation. Clean, straight forward, & very refreshing.

Underwhelming pour of light gold with a nice head.

Light grainy smell with subtle nodes of lemon. Not much wheat to be spoken of. Still, a solid odor.

Tastes a bit stronger and more complex. Nice lager grain malt backed up by a more bitter malt near the back and a very slight hint of citrus at the end.

Nothing great here. A solid beer, I guess, but not the best Millstream has to offer.

This is a dark golden/orange color, clear liquid with rising bubbles. Small foamy white head on top. The scent of this one is grainy malts. The taste is all clean, wheaty/grainy malt, not much hops if any at all. This beer is what i expected it to be, liquid cherios. Not a bad drink, would really hit the spot in the summer.

Clear bright yellow-amber with fine, lazy carbonation. The head is pure white and looks soft and pillowy. It deflates to a thick disk fairly rapidly, then more slowly to a thin film, leaving almost no lace. The nose is quiet, but pleasant. Lightly toasted malt/wheat/grain with a underlying lemoniness.

The flavor is underwhelming, but then the style isn't really capable of 'wowing' anyone. Fresh grain/pale malt with a hint of lemon and a very gentle hop bitterness. The finish is brief and is crisp, clean and semi-dry. Not a bad body; light in the mouth without being watery.

Wheat Lager is another above-average, but not all that remarkable Millstream beer. It is pretty quaffable, though, and tasted good after a hard workout.

Nice golden amber color. No real head to speak of. Low aroma-some sweet, toasted malt. Mellow, malty flavor-while it doesnt stand out it has a nice, crisp, almost citrusy sort of tone. Decent body. A good beer overall-perfect for a hot summer day or a plate of spicy wings. Thanks buckeyenation.

My first forray into the Millstream family..

Golden color...with a big fluffy 1/2 inch head....

Nose is soft wheat crackery...some bready Helles like notes too..

Body is light-to-medium...very creamy and rounded...not as crisp as I expected but much tastier....a nice light wheat bread flavor...just a slight lemongrass hint too....

Overall, this is better than I expected...has a nice little wheat flavor and is highly drinkable....while it's still winter in Northern Minnesota I would imagine this would pour nicely during the summer..and at 4.2% a person could drink damn near a 1/4 barrel by themselves if you wanted to....nothing jaw dropping about it but a nice enough wheat lager....

Clear pale yellow with a thin white head. Wheaty, grainy aroma. Light grainy taste with no hop characteristics. Light bodied and crisp. There were no real outstanding characteristics in any direction, good or bad.

A decent refreshing American style wheat. Good summer time brew.

Pours a pale golden color with a moderate white head that fades into a wispy lace. Nose is sweet malt and fresh wheat along with some fainter fruity aromas. Light in body with a crisp, refreshing mouth feel. Taste begins with some initial sweet malty and fruity notes followed by dry grains and some semi-spicy yeasts with the taste of wheat becoming more apparent towards the finish. Definitely a nice brew for a July afternoon in Texas. Thanks to bditty187 for the sample!

Local beer. Gotta support em. A wheat lager. Not sure how common this is.

Nice golden yellow. A good head that went away so quickly I was dissapointed at first; then I saw nice bubbles from the bottom. Good bity taste. A full bodied malty and somewhat sweet taste. Pretty dry finish. A little too dry for me. This is an enjoyable tasting beer.

Sampled at the brewery. Thinking back, I believe this was the first microbrew I ever had, way back in the 1980's. Today's pour was a nice-looking, heady sample, with very little haze and a nice fizzy wheat flavor. Some breadiness and a citrus nose. An easy, pleasing beer.

This was poured from the bottle into a pint glass. It has a straw color and is very clear, unusually so for a wheat beer. The head dissipated quickly into a small lacing. It has a malty scent, definitely wheat malt in there. The flavor is, as expected, very rich with wheat malt. It's balanced well enough, but slightly sweet. It has a medium-light body with moderate carbonation.

Overall, it's a decent American wheat beer. There are very little American wheat beers I'm fond of however. This stands a little above average.
