Notes/Commercial Description:
Just in time for the holidays is our special treat. A dark and chewy bock beer. Around November you'll find 'chocolate bock' on tap down at the brewery.

No other beer has a more pure and intense malt character as a true Bock. Many large breweries in the U.S. have diluted the original strength of this beer, but we make the real thing. The body of this beer is rich, making it a good beer to warm up to during those "special" Iowa winters. The blackened malt that we use in it gives the brew a slight hint of chocolate. Its a smooth brew, having been lagered for over a month in our cellars, in true bock style.

Pours to a dark brownish mahogany with a two finger head that leave nice lacing on the glass.

Smells of chocolate, toffee, roasted barley, raisin, molasses, some spice. Very nice!

Tastes pf mildly bitter chocolate, raisin, molasses, roasted barley. Big malt flavor without being sweet which is also nice.

A smooth drink with a clean finish. Has a decent amount of carbonation.

A very good brew which I could drink many of!

Sampled last night on 1/2/14. Bottle chilled down to 36 degrees F in my beer cooler and poured into a brandy snifter.

Pours a very dark brown with a smaller tan head. Good amount of lacing was seen with each sip. Perfect carbonation. The aroma is of coffee, toffee with a hint of chocolate and roasted malts. The taste is even better! All the above flavors come through and blend together nicely. Goes down smooth and easy with no bitter or harsh aftertaste. Very pleasant for sure!

Appearance: Brown, good head.

Smell: Nutty, a little chocolate, hint of coffee.

Taste: Roasted malt, mild sweetness, then some nuttiness, and finishes with mild dark chocolate.

Overall: Probably my favorite beer from Millstream, I had it several years ago but did not review. I'm not usually a bock guy, but this isn't a typical bock. It's more like a porter or brown ale with good roasted malt flavors.

Pours very little head. Color is a dark caramel brown.

Flavors are rich with notes of molasses and licorice. A lot of nutty flavors with some roasted malts. Lots of caramel and toffee. Chocolate as well. Very malty. Hints of vanilla.

Mouthfeel: roasted and smooth. Medium bodied.

Overall, a pretty good bock, but it has a bit too much of a roast for me. It is also a bit sweet.
