Pours a chill-hazed deep golden with a half inch cream head that dissipates fairly quickly, leaving sheets of lacing.

Bready, toasted caramel malt and a touch of skunk are the only elements detectable in the aroma.

Flavor is fairly sweet, with caramel malt forming the backbone. There's an offputting metallic element underlying the profile. The finish is a bit bitter. Floral hops emerge late.

Body is a little watery, with moderate carbonation and a decidedly astringent finish.

Metallic flavor kills the brew. Fairly nondescript, otherwise.

Clear pale yellow with a thin, creamy ring of a head. Light, clean pilsner malt aroma...not much in the way of hops, some faint grassiness. Lightly sweet grain, a bit of hop bitterness...nothing really stands out. Totally unoffensive but uninspiring. Light and refreshing.

More of a Helles lager if you ask me. Very simple, meant more for refreshment than anything else. Far from terrible though...I'll get it again in the summer or whenever I feel like a decent, cheap drinkin' beer.

Pours golden in color with brilliant clarity. Little head to speak of following a medium pour. Some lacing on the sides of my glass, but not much.

Pretty mild aroma. A touch of grain and some sweetness also being detected. I'm not a big fan of the sweet smell.

A combination of hops and carbonation (mostly carbonation) hit the palate first, followed up some malty sweetness which rounds things out. Not as crisp as I like my Pilsners.

Mouthfeel is on the thin side with a moderate carbonation level.

An average Pils overall.

Morey's Bottom Line: Not the worst Pils that I've had, but the lack of crispness coupled with the overdone sweetness makes this not worth spending money on. I'd drink it again, but it would have to be given to me (and this was).

A: Pours a pale golden color with an extremely thin white head. No retention or lacing.

S: Not a lot going on here. Grains and a touch of something sweet on the nose. Could be honey.

T: Again, not much going on here. The taste is slightly sweet upfront with grains and some pale malts. A slight bit of breadiness on the finish, but really not much at all. Watery mouthfeel.

12 oz brown longneck purchased from Trader Joes. Poured into my SA perfect point glass, the beer is a crystal clear light gold with a off-white head and very active carbonation. Some bits of lace on the sides of the glass.

The beer has a nose of malts and light fruit (plum & apple).

The taste is slightly sweet with honey notes and crackers. The hops come out a bit in the aftertaste, but this is a malt driven beverage. There is a hint of apple and a bit bread dough.

The mouth is pretty good and to style. It is a bit slick without a lot of gassiness. I think this is simple yet well made lager and one that would pair easily with most nonspicy foods.

JosephsBrau Bohemian Style Lager has a thick, off-white head, a clear, bubbly, golden appearance, and lots of rather heavy lacing left on the glass. The aroma is of sweetness, biscuit, and grassy hop oil. Taste is of those elements, as well, and the bitterness is substantial enough to impress. Yeast is picked up, too. Mouthfeel is light to medium, and JosephsBrau Bohemian Style Lager finishes dry, easy going, and refreshing.

I found this to be a terrible interpretation of a Czech pilsner, rough, bland, and unpleasant tasting, barely drinkable.

Faintly hazy deep gold, it has a thin, slightly fizzy, off-white head that soon shrinks to wisps and a ring, leaving a faint hint of lace at first.

The aroma is definitely a Czech pilsner in overall impression and good if not actually very good, with flowery apple, apple juice, grain, herbs, hints of bread, mineral, raisin, and vegetable.

The taste and feel struck me as awful. It starts out with some malty musty apple with cooked vegetables, a hint of butter and a fleeting hint of grain. This fades quickly to a rough minerally, watery, blandness dominated by a light, sharp bitterness that, because it's all there is, is too much. The bitterness and rough feeling on the toungue linger. The taste has a definite, general Czech character (hard to pin down, but it's there), but it's thin, rough, bland, and what flavour there is vanishes quickly.

Ironically, my wife, who does not like Czech pilsners normally (and who prefers mostly better macro lagers and strong Belgian golden ales) likes this. She normally finds my beers too bitter, yet found this fine, whereas I found the bitterness in this beer to be too much and too rough. I know for me, though, that absolute bitterness is not what matters but bitterness relative to the rest of the beer and here the bitterness was all alone with no other flavours, sweetness, etc., to carry it.

I still have nothing to do for the next few days, so time to start drinking some of my Trader Joe's beers. First up is this one. 12 oz bottle poured into a beer mug.

A: Pours a golden amber color that's cloudier than I expected from a pilsner. The head is a fairly unimpressive one finger eggshell color with low retention and texture quality. Decent lace, though.

S: Grassy hops and a bit of fruit. Not exactly impressive.

T: Rather lacking in flavor in general. There's an opening generic bitterness from the hops, but afterwards...its just empty. There's just nothing there! Maybe hints of malt and butter in spots, but this is just like drinking carbonated water. On the plus side, it lacks (most of) the unpleasantries of something like Budweiser.

M: Thin texture with no real finish to speak of. Carbonation is high but tightly controlled.

O: It's not a good beer, but it IS at least very drinkable, basically because it's beer-flavored carbonated water. A decent enough lawnmower beer, I suppose - given its price, it could be an adequate BMC substitute for those who have a Trader Joe's near them. Personally, I wouldn't care if I never had this again.

Appearance: Crystal clear body, a little carbonation, not much. Good head, slow fading.

Smell: Lightly malt, grassy, and a little sour. Not bad.

Taste: Strong sharp malt, a little grassy, actually quite pleasing. This is one of the best from the Trader Joe's lineup. For the price, this is a tasty beer.

Drinkability: Won't knock your socks off, but for the affordable price, try it.

Poured from 12 oz. bottle into Duvel tulip glass.

Appearance: Bright golden yellow with lots of bubbles. Small white head quickly fades into a thin white layer.

Smell: Sweet malts and grains are followed by light hints of banana, spices and hops.

Taste: Sweet bready malts are followed by a light banana flavor and spice. Slight hint of hop bitterness. Finishes with a very grainy taste.

Mouthfeel: Light to medium body and carbonation. Very crisp.

Overall: A pretty tasty version of a pilsener that tastes like a light version of a hefeweizen.

Poured a very transparent golden color with some fluffy white head on it.

Smelled like grain. Not a whole lot to the aroma.

Taste is better than I was expecting. Nothing overpowering but a good balanced beer. Not a ton of carbonation or bitterness.

Very smooth light bodied beer.

Not a bad beer at all. I wouldn't mind drinking more of these. This is pretty reasonably priced too.

Lightly toasted grain and we are off. Faded grassy hints here and there. Thin malt profile allows a slightly drying hop presence and it crispens it up as well. It lacks the hop zap that a good Czech pils will have but its still there at least. The only annoying part of this brew is it gets over the top with the grain bill and it takes all the carbonation to help this finish clean.

After a wave of tough reviewing, amazingly this trader joe's offering breaks the bad streak. It's nothing that's going to get the crowd buzzing, or even make you go WOW. This is what it is...a crisp, refreshing, light, don't think about just enjoy it type of brew. Simple and drinkable.
