Clean, clear, and golden, with solid foam. No discernible lacing.

Nose is grainy, corny, and oh-so-average. Like a typical adjunct lager here.

Tastes sweet. More grains and sweet corn. Bland, watery...need I say more?

One-dimensional, over-malted, and uninteresting.

Twelve ounce bottle into Barilla jar.

Three fingers of head that dwindles kinda quickly. Some bits of lace here and there. Hints of grassy hops in the nose, sugary euro pale maltiness. Flavor is not really what I would call a Czech pilsener, but this beer is quite a bit better than I imagined it would be. A nice refreshing beer with a bit of a dry finish. Trader Joe's brews are well worth the 5.30 price.

Clear deep gold with a short, bright white cap that faded to a collar but really stuck around afte that. Clumpy, spotty lacing. Smells like cooked corn with a little malt thrown in, maybe a little overdone popcorn. Low bitterness wit more cooked corn, popcorn, and slight grassiness. Low to medium bodied with lowish carbonation, on the dry side wit a bit of spiciness in the finish. I'm not impressed by my first Trader Joe's beer, mainly due to the corn character running through it.

It was cheap and because Trader Joes has some cool foodie stuff, why not. DONT! STOP! This beer sux. Period. A complete waste. It falls in the category of "only if it's all we got and then it better be frozen".

Very sad outcome because I had such high hopes that a six pack for less than $4.- might be okay. WRONG. I threw it out. And this was several years ago. That's how bad it was. I still remember and as a matter of fact I always tell people about how bad it is whenever the subject of shopping at Trader Joes comes up.

* I love Trader Joes as a rule and recommend checking them out.*

The Trader Joes' Vienna Lager was okay enough to trick me into trying the Bohemian.

Few bubbles, little head. An obscene shade of transparent yellow.

First thing I noticed was the metallic smell and taste. Perhaps leaving the beer at room temperature makes it eat some of the bottle cap. Once I was desensitized to the metal, I could smell a light buttery carmel and a bit o' yeast (which gets better as the beer gets warmer).

The non-aromatic hops and the graininess aren't complimentary. The bottle says it's best consumed before 2/24/12, but it already tastes old.

I'm glad I didn't have to buy an entire 6-pack in order to try this beer.

Going the Trader Joe's way with this 12 ounce bottle. On to the beer:

Slightly hazy yellow straw in color with no shortage of bubbles running through it. The head forms small and has a fuzzy texture. The smell....this is hard. Soaked bran cereal comes to mind, but really, the intensity of the nose in general is low.

When the first sip makes me involuntarily grimace, the outlook looks grim. Did somebody steal the barley from this beer? There's seems to be no sweetness at all. It's a seltzery, bitter mess that's painfull to drink and has an appalling bitter aftertaste. Fizzy bodied, weak, and unrefreshing in contrast to what the bottle label markets. That's five sips down, and that's all I can get myself to drink. The rest is going to visit the backyard lawn.

I was hoping that this would be a rip-off of something like Pilsner Urquell, but instead it looks Trader Joe's tried to rip-off the taste of Michelob Ultra. That's not good.

Pours golden in color with brilliant clarity. Little head to speak of following a medium pour. Some lacing on the sides of my glass, but not much.

Pretty mild aroma. A touch of grain and some sweetness also being detected. I'm not a big fan of the sweet smell.

A combination of hops and carbonation (mostly carbonation) hit the palate first, followed up some malty sweetness which rounds things out. Not as crisp as I like my Pilsners.

Mouthfeel is on the thin side with a moderate carbonation level.

An average Pils overall.

Morey's Bottom Line: Not the worst Pils that I've had, but the lack of crispness coupled with the overdone sweetness makes this not worth spending money on. I'd drink it again, but it would have to be given to me (and this was).

pours golden yellow with quick dissipating white head. Pretty much no smell on this one. Not too sweet and a hint of some maltiness. A strong apple flavor that almost gives it a apple juice flavor. Light and drinkable . overall an ok beer but I probably wouldn't buy it again.

A: Pours a pale golden color with an extremely thin white head. No retention or lacing.

S: Not a lot going on here. Grains and a touch of something sweet on the nose. Could be honey.

T: Again, not much going on here. The taste is slightly sweet upfront with grains and some pale malts. A slight bit of breadiness on the finish, but really not much at all. Watery mouthfeel.

Poured from 12 oz. bottle into Duvel tulip glass.

Appearance: Bright golden yellow with lots of bubbles. Small white head quickly fades into a thin white layer.

Smell: Sweet malts and grains are followed by light hints of banana, spices and hops.

Taste: Sweet bready malts are followed by a light banana flavor and spice. Slight hint of hop bitterness. Finishes with a very grainy taste.

Mouthfeel: Light to medium body and carbonation. Very crisp.

Overall: A pretty tasty version of a pilsener that tastes like a light version of a hefeweizen.

Much closer to tangerine than gold, with corn silk hued highlights and a light shower of downward drifting yeast. The bone colored crown is bubbly on top and just sticky enough to leave a bit of itself on the sides of the glass.

Name aside, are we sure this is a Czech pilsener? The nose is more lightly corny pale lager with very little hoppiness. 18 IBUs (when fresh) indicate that hops aren't the main focus by a long shot.

Not a bad little pale lager. This is a decent choice if you have the right mindset going in. It's balanced, it's easily drinkable (read: inoffensive), and it should pair up well with most foods. Not great solo, but then what do you expect for a buck?

Untoasted bready grains are the flavor focal point... and I'm still getting a faint corniness that isn't unpleasant. Lightly sweet is nicely offset by lightly bitter. The hops are close to grassy, but don't scream SAAZ! with every sip. No real high points and no real low points equates to... average.

The mouthfeel does what it needs to do. A tendency toward wateriness on the back end almost dragged the score down one notch, but the bubbles have precisely the right amount of lightly sparkly energy.

Trader Joe's beer is surprisingly good, all things considered. Bohemian Lager, while not one of their best, isn't a bad choice for warm weather cookouts. Beats the hell out of what you're likely to see in the vast majority of backyards this summer.

golden yellow with a quick one finger head that fades pretty quickly to a couple of clumps on the surface. Dont smell much, some bitter from the hops, light malt smell. Tastes dry bitter, corn and some sweet flavors roll around. Nice hop zing that sits around on the back of my toungue and roof of my mouth. Mouthfeel is full with good carbonation that fades in the mouth but picks back up in my stomach. Its ok. Wont be chomping at the bit to get another sixer but its drinkable. At the same price as any other big american beer label it is a value for the taste.

Caramel and adjunct rich Czech Pils... look out for 'clumps' :o
___

A: Very clear goldenrod body with a fleeting, off white, sudsy, two finger head. Unappealing small 'clumps' formed in the head, persisting for quite a while, leaving me to believe they were particulate in nature when they were apparently not.

S: Dry pils biscuit with some diacetyl, a very light spicy hop edge, and a dose of corn adjunct and metal.

T: Fairly big caramel malt and pils style hops, but also fairly big on adjunct and metal. Best in large gulps.

M: A bit watery, but not bad.

D: Metallic finish and 'clumps' make it a "no" for me.

Poured a very transparent golden color with some fluffy white head on it.

Smelled like grain. Not a whole lot to the aroma.

Taste is better than I was expecting. Nothing overpowering but a good balanced beer. Not a ton of carbonation or bitterness.

Very smooth light bodied beer.

Not a bad beer at all. I wouldn't mind drinking more of these. This is pretty reasonably priced too.

12 oz. bottle with a batch code on the back, contract-brewed by Gordon Biersch with pilsner malt, lager yeast and 18 IBUs. Pours light amber, with moderate carbonation and a half-inch off-white head that deposits a few threads of lacing. Floral hops and light malt (or perhaps corn) in the nose blend with traces of sulfur and diacetyl. Tastes toasted and biscuity, soft, sweet (corn?), with floral/spicy hops, mild bitterness, and some lagery yeast notes on top of a fairly carbonated, light body that has a medium finish. Not really a pilsner, but keep in mind the label doesn't declare it to be one. It does, however, call it Bohemian, but I feel this tastes less Czech and more like an American lager, perhaps even a pre-Prohibition one. A good amount of brews back then were moderately hopped, labeled Bohemian, and the use of corn would not have been out of place at all. So let's go with that - this is a good example of a pre-Prohibition American lager.

again a few more of these and thankfully i am done, cold day, snowed in, lots of ehh beer from mixed six packs and away we go. served in a pint glass on 1.11.11.

very light golden pour with loads of carbonation and a little head of white that seems to stick on top for just the slighest bit of time. aroma is light biscuit, hints of grain, touches of light banana an spice. taste is about the same but seems to be just a touch off for me. not the way it is supposed to work for sure. light finish leaves almost no aftertaste and it is over before it began.

overall it was not really a repeatable beer at all.

Appearance - Beautiful light gold, perfect carbonation look.
Smell - Not much there.
Taste - Not bad. It's lacking a little of the crispness I expect from a Bohemian Pils - perhaps it's under bittered or maybe the Pilsner malt graininess is missing. It tastes good, but it's not quite in good Bo Pils territory.
Mouthfeel - More as expected, with decent carbonation and some bitterness.
Drinkability - Overall a decent beer. Not great, but it beets most other beers I can purchase for $5.99 / sixer.

12 oz bottle. Poured a golden yellow with a thin, short lived head. Lively carbonation. Aroma of herbal hops and biscuit malt. Light to medium body. Flavor of mild herbal hops balanced by biscuit malt with some citrusy notes. Finish is long and slightly bitter. Not bad for the price, but should be much more hops for the style.

Served in a Chicago Bears shaker pint glass.

The pour results in a clear pale straw topped by a finger of white foam. The nose comprises very light florals. ...That's it. I made sure my nose is still working (whatever fabric softener I use smells nice...), and still nothing much here. Okay. The taste holds notes of flowers, very light honey, watered-down caramel, wheat, and corn. There's a fake-feeling sweetness to everything. The body is light, with a light moderate carbonation and a wet feel. Overall, an okay pils at best, just a bit to sweet and artificial (if that makes sense) for my tastes.

A new Trader Joes opened up in my neighborhood on 72nd Street on Broadway on Manhattan's upper west side. I had heard a lot of good things about their beers. They seem to have a number of brands: The basic "made in mexico" brand. The Mission Street, which is a collaboration with Firestone Walker. And the "german" series, which this is part of.

I didn't understand the negative reviews of this beer until I had it. I usually think of a much brighter, hoppier beer when I think of pilsner but this was really not much different from a mexican beer. The vienna lager, which IS a mexican beer is more interesting. I'll enjoy it with Chinese, etc., but it is not what I'd consider a good pilsner.

This beer pours with a fairly deep golden color. A very wet and frothy looking head recedes quite fast. Heavy notes of honey and pear in the aroma give way to a hint of peach. Super crisp and clean taste with no hop presence. The honey notes come crawling back for the very end of the finish. Overall, not a bad beer for the price.

Pours a clear goldenrod yellow with a slightly off white head of medium bubbles that melt quickly leaving a bit of a map on the side of the glass in it's wake.

Aromas of fresh lightly toasted malt and faint citrus hops.

Light and refreshing but not really a whole lot going on in the flavor department. Slightly sweet toasted malt with a bit citrus hops biting the tongue at the same time then creating a balance with the malts as you swallow and in the aftertaste.

Like a stranger saying 'hi' as you pass eachother on the street, it's pleasant and refreshing but don't expect a long conversation from this one.

Taste, straight forward, not bad, not adventurous. Prickly carbonation in place of hops, kinda true to style. Just doesn't taste like a whole lot, for better and for worse. This is the purgatory between BMC and craft brew. Hook this up for a friend who is looking to get initiated into something beyond diet beer.

This beer pours a crystal clear, pale golden/yellow with a pillowy white head that recedes quickly and leaves very little lacing.

Very mellow, small nose consisting mainly of malty sweetness with just the slightest hint of spicy hops. Not really much here in the way of aroma

There is a slight bready, toasty flavor that mixes well with the overall malty sweetness. Very small spicy hop profile. Crisp and dry and very pleasant overall, but not really a good example of a czech pilsener.

I enjoyed the beer overall, but would have liked to have seen more hop presence.
