blind tasted against 8 German weizens (all of the top ones), it was rated #1 by 2 (one of whom wrote a book on German beer and myself, a bierkenner if I do say so) and #2 by the other. this is the best American hefeweizen I have had. one of my regular beers. cloudy - of course! complex range of all normal wheat beer tastes as it warms. I can't believe the price holds at $6/6pack. stands up with Weihenstephaner Vitus and Andechs hefe.

After having this cloudy beer half a dozen times I've grown to enjoy it. The mouth feel is my favorite part of the beer... It's definitely consistent and refreshing... It's not overwhelmingly bitter but rather earthy and herbal... It's like a walk in the rain under the treetops as the mist envelopes your face... I've had some Samuel Adams that have too many forced flavors.. trader Joe's created a very natural beer in this case. A hefeweizen that leaves a light taste of grain as it washes down.

12 oz. bottle, stamped “Consume by 7/22/22”
Hazy golden color with nice cream head and lacing.
Strong clove aroma.
Clove, banana, grassy, herbal flavors are nice but not as assertive as many weizens.
Smooth mouthfeel, good carbonation. No off flavors.
Good value.

Very good beer! the look looks like it's a thick foggy cup of honey, it smells like a orange citrusy smell. The taste wow'ed me for the price of the beer.. It tastes very citrusy with a hint of honey. Very good and sweet. I'd definitely buy a 6 pack and enjoy it for the weekend.

From a bottle, pours a haze darkish yellow with a puffy off-white head. Aroma is pronounced but puzzling at first; banana plus an indistinct spice. Flavor is all banana and cloves and yeast. There's also some malt sweetness and carbonation ...but... Unless I'm planning interesting food pairings, this is a peculiar "beer".

Poured from a can into a pint glass
Appearance – The beer pours a hazed orange color with a one finger head of puffy white foam. The head has a great level of retention, very slowly fading over time to leave a light level of foamy lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell – The aroma of the brew is strong of a wheat bread smell mixed with some aromas of cardamon and clove. Along with these smells comes a decently strong ripe banana aroma as well as a little bit of hay and grass
Taste – The taste begins with a dry wheat bread taste mixed with some light citrus sweetness and a moderate showing of some yeast and clove. As the taste advances the banana that was detected in the nose gets more intense in flavor and is joined by more yeast and some hay. At the end, a bit of a bubble gum and candy sweetness comes to the tongue, leaving one with a yeasty and wheaty moderately sweeter hefe taste to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel –The body of the brew is medium to slightly higher in thickness and creaminess with a carbonation level that is rather average. For the wheat bread flavors mixed with the fruitiness and spice the feel is nice and makes for a rather appropriate for accentuating the flavors all while keeping it quite drinkable.
Overall - A decent hefe overall. A little thicker and chewier with a good hit of banana and wheat.

This has the appearance down pat, with a bountiful foam cap and a big bouquet of clove and bananas. The aroma matches the taste. Enjoyable, if not stellar. And yet, post-pandemic, I keep returning to it.

Look: dark golden with a an inch white head (in snifter)
Aroma: wheat biscuits, yeast, banana.
Taste: The flavor was wheat biscuits, yeast, banana and clove. Typical Hefeweizen flavor profile. Good but I thought the flavor was a bit over the top.
Body/Overall: light to medium body.

Really good hefeweizen for the price. Has nice subtle taste of banana and a really good mouth feel. For one dollar a bottle you can't go wrong with this

A typical American (Bavarian style) Hefeweisen.
I got this beer, to propagate the yeast.
It meets the conditions I want. I'll be
making a pumpkin spiced ginger beer,
similar to the pumpkin ginger beer, I
got when I got this beer. (That one was
soda, this will be a sugar, ginger spices,
pumpkin pulp, fermented with this yeast.)
Hey, it was a liquid yeast, for $2.00, with 2
beers included. Yes, I DO have propagating
equipment, including O2.

It is a very hazy beer with a good head, maybe a tinge of orange. It wasn't very strong on the nose but was estery and a hint of phenols. The taste was very reminiscent banana bread with a full mouthfeel and good carbonation. Overall it is not a complex beer but hits the spot perfectly if a banana bready hefeweizen is what you are looking for.

It's unfortunate that a beer with so much promise is just average. Although better than your average but, the smell leaves you wanting more. Drink it cold and it alright, but not near where Josephsbrau usually is for a low cost beer.

For the price, it's excellent. When cold and fresh, it really is a great beer. Surprised me, the other TJ's beers are not quite in the same league as this one. Strong, banana notes, quite sweet but delicious
