Looks decent, smells decent, but it's all downhill from there.

Pours a slightly hazed light-orange color, topped by a moderate and lacey off-white head. The aroma is slightly spicy with light hints of banana, just as it ought to be.

The flavor, however, is a bit odd. It didn't really hit me on the first sip, but the more I drank of this beer, the more overpowering this kind of bubblegummy sweetness became. Hints of clove in the back-end, but not sufficient to balance, and the finish also seemed to bring on a kind of unpleasant metallic twang.

This isn't an awful beer, and it's drinkable enough, if you're distracted by something else and not paying too much attention to the flavor. But there are better beers on which to spend one's money.

It both pours and looks like a traditional hefe. Cloudy, honey color topped by a good moussey head that slowly dies down leaving spotty lacing and modest head retention.

The nose is musty bananas. Traces of rubbery baseball card bubblegum.

Tastes like a textbook hefe, wheaty with banana esters, with some clove and bubblegum in the finish both lingering in the aftertaste.

Mouthfeel is a little thin and on the watery side, but refreshing.

It's kind of a McHefeweizen--it does the job and it satisfies, but in a way that kind of makes you wish you were drinking something better. But really. What did you expect for the price?

In no way is this going to compete with its Bavarian brethren, but at the same time, it's kind of not too bad and I would highly recommend if for the budget conscious hefe drinker. You know who you are. You cheapskate.

Six pack for six dollars. Just working my way down the list till I find something I really like. ...and the organic chicken at $5.99lb ain't it.

Batch Number: 10:23 BH270 29810

Unbranded weizen glass & a box of crunch n munch(well, the TJ's brand anyway). Two bottles, because it would look just silly filled half way.

Standard eggshell umbrella of foam that is a hefeweizen. The underbelly is muddy, & not quite orange or yellow. Streams of suds appear from time to time to reinforce the collapsing head.

The smell I get is talcum powder, bananas, lemon/lime, & biscuity yeast. In that order. Decent so far.

Taste is very doughy, cut in the middle by low-key savory/sweet banana & lemon essences. Finish is a bit of bitter clove & a long trail of yeast.

Carbonation is strong, but the texture seems a bit pasty. Not totally refreshing, but gunky or anything. Alcohol is fine. Still tastes pretty well for a bargain brew.

No toy at the bottom of the crunch n munch box either. What is this con game?! How does Trader Joe's stay in business?

12 oz bottle into pint glass

A: Cloudy dark orange/yellow. Too dark for the style, but the right cloudyness. Poured a one finger off white head that left decent lacing while it was there, but wasn't there long. Some active carbonation.

S: Smell's strongly of bananas, and not much else. Some malt, not bitter at all though. Pretty much on style and enjoyable

T: Tastes again of Bananas, and even cloves a little. Sweet and a little biscuity. Not very wheaty though.

M: Feels light and sparkly, more active that it looks. Goes down pretty easy, and doesn't shock any part of the tounge.

D: Pretty darn good, filling for a beer of this color and mouth feel. A worthy lawnmower beer.

Cloudy yellow, some dull orange color noted. Large 1/2 inch white soapy head; underlying bubbles push the soapy cap upwards forming a capsized beauty. The nose has bananas, bubble gum, wheaty yeasts and spices. Medium carbonation, a bit thick. Pleasant cloves, creamy hops, spices and yeast. A bit pasty, sugar plums and banana peel make up this fine hefe. A finish with light cracked pepper resting on the palate, just a tinge cloying. What a treat! A great effort by TJoes!

Poured this Hefeweizen from a 12 oz bottle into a pint glass. It pored a hazy orangish color. Produced a thick off white head, great retention and left nice lacing on the glass. The aroma was very nice, full of banana and cloves. Medium in body, this brew had a creamy smooth mouthfeel, Malted grain, lemon citrus, spicy clove and yeasty banana flavor. Decent example of a German Hefe but leaves a little to be desired. Overall average beer- Prost!

Yet another from my 'custom' 6 pack from Trader Joe's.
I am glad that a chain supermarket, though a specialy one, has entered the realm of crafting different styles of beer. It's a great hefe, as far as i am concerned. I am not surprised that some people rated this in the C+ range, since all to often impressions, politics, and branding comes into the equation. I tried to rate this without any of that baggage attached, and found it to be a damn fine hefe, and for the $6 price, a real good buy!

Cloudy gold with fine bubbled head and resisilent pale lacing.

Aroma of spicy banana and clove. A good wheat presence too, as expected.

Taste is solid hefe, with big banana, clove florals, and herbal spicy wheat. Mouthfeel is towards the medium full end, and despite a bit of syrupy clinginess on the tounge, is great.

Drinkability is supurb, my pint emptied itself mighty-quick.

Finally got the chance to go to Trader Joes and pick up a couple six packs.

This style is actually becoming a favorite of mine, for summer pounding, but the two I have sampled thus far were weak for bottled wheat beers. This one hits the mark for good taste/cheap price. At 4.99 a six, I'll be buying this again for a switch up beer.

App: Dark orange, cloudy, not a lot of carbonation, but it's not as yellow as some wheats I've had off the tap.

Smell: It's all here, smells just like a hefe should.

Mouth: Average. a little metallic at the end.

Taste: Typical , yet thin. I had my first one in the bottle, and I had to give this my imperial pint test so I could fully taste/smell, and I didn't like this as much in the glass. Still, this wheat was the same fruity flavor I'me started to warm too, but it was thin , leaving a slight lager aftertaste.

Drinkability: Yep. $5 for a good summer beer. I'll get it again.

12oz bottle served in a standard shaker pint.

pours a very hazy dull golden yellow with 2" spritzy head that quickly recedes; not much lacing to speak of.

nose is solid but not wowing; offers banana and clove with secondary notes of bubblegum and wheat.

taste isn't bad, follows the aroma pretty closely. a bit on the sweet side with the banana, clove, and bubblegum flavors all pulling through. definitely a wheaty presence. reasonably enjoyable.

medium-light bodied with slightly above average carbonation.

overall this is a decent, drinkable beer and reasonably priced.

Pours a cloudy golden hue with a pillowy magnificent head. The smell is of sweet fruits namely apricot with somewhat of a mettalic tinge. Taste is sweet all the way through, fruitiness present, orange, apricot, citrus. Very carbonated somewhat thin mouthfeel. The drinkability is excellent. Great beer to enjoy on a hot summer day.

Well they hit this one out of the park. A nice semi-cloudy yellow with a nice chunky head. Smell is overwhelmingly banana and yeasty. Fucking cheap beer that uses the right yeast or a good enough artificial flavor to fool me. Whatever this is nice hefe if only they left it completely unfiltered. Still nice mouthfeel and very drinkable. Drink a lot for under $5 a six.

Appearance: Cloudy orangish/amber; small head dissipates quickly

Aroma: Bavarian wheat notes of banana, cloves and yeast, but sweeter, like banana taffy

Taste: Thin and zippy; flavor is reminiscent of Bavarian wheat, but it seems slightly artificial; overall, not bad, and pretty refreshing, but not complex and nothing special

Remarks: Did not score A, T, S, M at that time; disregard those scores

Appearance: Poured a cloudy harvest orange. A light eggshell colored head developed, which was not as thick as most of the hefes I'm used to. It dissipated to a thin lacing with a ring around the outside.

Smell: Very potent. I sniffed the bottle after opening and said, "Wow." It was more than I was expecting. Spicy cloves up front are followed by banana and fruity, almost strawberry, bubblegum.

Taste: Again, I'm very impressed. It's much like the smell. Prominent clove spice and bananas followed by fruity bubblegum.

Drinkability: It's smooth drinking hefe goodness; well balanced and deliciously flavorful. I think that makes it toothsome. Just the thing I need on a warm, brownout plagued SoCal night. I'm definitely trying TJ's Dunkelweizen.

Pours cloudy orange/gold with a smallish white head. Lacing on the surface. Aroma is assertive wheat- cloves and bananas. Taste has little sweetness. Cloves and wheat tang. Pretty typical but not bad. Light to medium bodied and well carbonated. Pretty easily drinkable. Overall this is a pretty standard hefe. Certainly pretty good for the price.

Poured from bottle into a smaple glass.

Appearance: Cloudy copper color. about two fingers of white head.

Smell: Bananas, wheat, and alcohol.

Mouthfeel/Taste: Medium to light bodied. Grassy taste with alcohol.

Overall: Not really impressed by this beer, I actually expected better from the Trader Joe's selection.

Appearance- Slightly hazy amber/pumpkin color with a decent off-white head. Has some head retention. No lacing at all..

Aroma- Yeast and light lemon with a wheat base. Also get something that smells like bubble gum. No hop aroma at all.

Taste- Nice clean but not crisp wheat base with some yeast and a hint of banana and nice lemon zest. No hops, no clove. Pretty much a basic hefe.

Mouthfeel- Medium body. Carbonation level good. Nice dry finish.

Drinkability- Not the greatest hefe, but pretty decent.

Poured into a weizen glass this hefe yeilds a full three fingers of head. Several minutes later at least 2 pillow-y fingers remain atop an unfiltered orange liquid.

I continue to be surprised by this brew; strong bubblegum scent is aided by a subtle clove aroma. A touch of lemon and banana resides on the back end but are fleeting at best.

The yeast is what jumps out at you right away with a milder incarnation of the bubblegum up front. Hints of spice trail off into a great wheat twang.

Thick, slightly chewy body with a sharp, biting finish. I'm stunned that I've enjoyed this beer as much as I have. Hefeweizens aren't my favorite style but I find this to be an outstanding example of the genre. Easily the best TJ's contract brew I've tried.
