S - Very sweet malts. I can smell caramel, tasted nuts, and honey. Barely any hops

T - Taste was a little too sweet for me. I did taste the honey. With a aftertaste of freshly milled grains.

M - Good amount of carbonation

D - I liked it, but it was just too sweet for me peronally. So, I could drink a couple, but not a sixer.

Would I buy it again? No
Would I drink it at a party? Yes
Would I recommend it to a friend? If they liked sweet beers.
Did my wife like it? "I didn't dislike it, but I wouldn't drink it. It falls right in between that spectrum"

Overall: It was a nice, sweet, inexpensiv beer. But it was just too sweet for me, good honey taste.

Probably my go-to cheap beer for entertaining non-beer geeks, or for bringing to a housewarming or a bbq. First off let me be very clear - this does not compare to any of the drinkable beers in the craft beer movement, it is merely a step up from your typical budweiser/coors/etc. People associate Trader Joe's with being fairly healthy and quirky, so they aren't as reluctant to give it a whirl. The beer itself uses sweeter malts so it is good for female company, but don't expect much in the way of hops or depth of flavor. Its main highlights are its smoothness and acceptence by non-craft beer drinkers.

Oh and the most important part - the price. In Manhattan a six pack goes for $1-2 less than a sixer of bud light.

Pours a crystal clear amber orange color with a small patchy off white head on top that falls to a ring. Aroma is a mix of caramelized grains and a grassy, herbal hoppiness that exhibits a hint of fruity spice. Not half bad.

First sip brings a nice pale/caramel maltiness upfront along with some roasted grains. A nice, fairly mellow herbal, spicy, grassy hoppiness brings up the rear. I'd say this is a nice, refreshng vienna style lager..nothing incredible but a refreshing brew overall.

Mouthfeel is rather nice with a chewy body that has a creamy profile. An easy drinking beer that doesn't require too much thinking. Refreshing and under 6 for a sixer. I'd say it's a good crossover beer and I'll pick it up again if the mood strikes me.

Pours a clear red amber with a one finger head and little retention or lacing. Aroma is all malts, mostly sweet and no hops. Taste is mostly mildly sweet malts, not too sweet but a nice balance for drinking with food. Mouthfeel is pretty good although it's a little clingy. Very drinkable and could be sessioned. Excellent beer for less than $1.

12 oz brown bottle with a batch # and freshness date on the back label along with a blurb about the beer.

A- Three fingers of foam rise quick and leave some sea foam colored head in its wake. Clarity is perfect in its sparkling amber hue.

S- A bit of malty goodness in the aroma with hints of caramel and Portuguese sweet bread.

T- Solid malt character, lightly crisp in a moderate body. Toasted maltiness throughout. Kiss of hops with a hint of herbal flavor in the malty finish.

D- Very easy to drink. Perhaps the best to come from this Trader Joe's brand, I definitely recommend it if you like malty lagers and @ 5.29 a 6-pack it is a steal.

Poured from 12 oz. bottle into Duvel tulip glass.

Appearance: Bright amber orange with lots of bubbles. Decent sized white head quickly fades into a patchy layer. Lacing is pretty light.

Smell: Very malty with caramel and toasted grains. Hints of honey and citrus hops.

Taste: Toasted caramel malts and biscuit are followed by hints of honey and citrus. Light hint of hops. Tastes a lot like a marzin.

Mouthfeel: Medium body and carbonation. Crisp and smooth.

Overall: A decent lager that tastes a lot like a marzin. Very malt forward but still good.

Looks like a lager, a little more color to it, unlike an American adjunct type. No noticeable aroma other than "beer" if you know what I mean.

Taste, a faint sweet yeast strain I'm guessing, little hop character. Probably a better summer beer. Not bad, just a polite, mild beer.

Mouthfeel, remains constant, doesn't develop any nuances throughout. Gets some drinkability props for being cheap.

Poured a rich amber color with an average amount of white foamy head on it. Doesn't look like a ton of carbonation throughout the glass. Smells like malt, not much else coming through. Taste is decent. Nothing spectacular, kind of bready or grainy. Light-medium mouthfeel. Reasonably drinkable - wouldn't be my first choice, but it's not bad.

Pours a crystal clear, copper amber color with a cream colored 2 finger head that melted quickly to a mere ring in my glass.

Clean aroma of lightly roasted malts and a mild citrus from the hops. Diacetyl is present at the end as a light buttery aroma.

Mouthfeel is thick with tons of tiny bubbles.

Taste is a really nice balance of what appears to be Munich and Pilsner malts making it taste much lighter than it looks. Citrus hops are present from beginning to end making this a very refreshing Lager.

This is really light and wonderful with a nice drying and only a mild citrus aftertaste. I could definitely drink these all day and will be buying more...especially at under $6 a 6'r at Trader Joe's.

Pours a clear darkish amber with a large tan head that leaves good lacing. The smell is nice with sweet malt and bread yeast. The taste is crisp with sweet malt, bread yeast, and some vanilla? The m/f is light and well balanced making a good drinker, not great, but not bad either.

I liked this beer, but overall, it is just a very average (good) beer.

A - I liked the reddish golden tint in the glass. Very little head.

S - Bright, citrusy

T - Again, bright and a little citrusy. I also felt it was a little bitter (perhaps in a good way)

M - very lager-ish, nothing out of the ordinary

D - A good all-around beer

Appearance - Pours clear and with a bright copper hue to go along with a finger width off-white head. Fair retention leads to a broken layer of surface suds and a thin ring around the edge. Leaves a fair amount of lacing on the side of the glass.

Smell - Bready aroma. Hints of caramel. Mild spice hop aroma in the distance.

Taste - Mild but flavorful. Bready malt with touches of caramel. Hops come through faintly, with a touch of spice, light grass and a leafy character. Clean finish.

Mouthfeel - Light to medium in body with crisp, lively carbonation. Slightly silky. Goes down easy before a semi-dry finish.

Overall - Pretty good Vienna here if you aren't expecting the world, and there'd be no reason to considering the price. Bargain deal from Trader Joe's. I'd consider buying it again, though if I'm being honest it wouldn't even be close to my first choice at TJ's.

12 oz. bottle into a pint glass.

Appearance: Darker copper with hints of amber, decent foamy white head retention.

Smell: There's an odd cidery aroma to this that seems like it's masking the malt flavors a bit, with earthy hops flavors and some bread and grain.

Taste: Again, the cidery residual sugars seem to be at the forefront and make it a bit too sweet, and a bit too cloying, letting hints of nice graininess and citrus hops in, but that's it, hints, with a quickly fleeting finish also.

Mouthfeel: A little thin and slick in the body with an over-ripe burst of carbonation near the end.

Drinkability: Not bad for the price I suppose, and it can be sessioned, but more flavor and a bigger body would do a lot for this brew.

Poured from a 12oz bottle into my Harriet pils glass. Best before February 5th, 2013.

Clear, burnt orange body that glows amber when held to the light; delicate yet lasting off-white head which recedes to a modest cap and gently soapy collar. Delicate arcs of lace; good retention.

Lovely German malt in the nose - toasty and distinctive (everything their Oktoberfest was not!). Earthy yet clean.

Nice malt complexity on the palate, though there is an almost-metallic sharpness to the flavor profile as well. Low bitterness offsets the malt, though the latter continues to blossom throughout the finish. Very low hop notes, mostly earthy with the slightest hint of peppercorn. While imperfect, still well balanced.

Soft, medium-light body with sufficient carbonation.

A decent take on the style, better than most mass-market lagers utilizing the name (along with an excess of adjuncts) while ignoring the traditions associated with it.

Clean, deep amber, with solid tree line lacing.

Malty and grainy on the nose...I get corn, wheat...simple.

Taste is sweet. Caramel malts and grains. Sweet and unbalanced, this brew is one-dimensional and nothing outstanding or memorable in the least.

Didn't like this one at all. Avoid.

Appearance: Copper-amber with plenty of creamy foam. Pretty transluscent. A well-bodied beer.

Smell: Some biscuit and caramel malts. A nice sweet smell. Not much else here to speak of.

Taste/Mouthfeel: Again, nice biscuit and caramel malts. I don't detect much or any spiced hoppiness, but there is a bit of hop bitterness. A good creamy finish.

Drinkability: The root beer of lagers.

Overall: Thumbs up to Trader Joe's here. A well-than-above-average brew.

TJ's Vienna Lager. I can see there's a little bit of slightly yellowed tan to the creamy one-finger head. Nice. The body is clear with a deep-amber/copper color. Pretty good head retention. Decent lacing. The aroma is solid, with a clean, distinctly grainy maltiness that's nutty and subtly caramelish. I don't find any hops, but they are there in the flavor - floral and spicy - backing the toasty maltiness. It's rich, but I don't want to say rich, I don't want to give the impression that it's bigger than it is. There's just the right amount of maltiness to it! And there's just enough Vienna malt in the grain bill that it's toasty, nutty and delicately caramelish with an almost fruity side as well. (Don't ask me to explain that, I can't, I don't know where it comes from but I find it in quite a few Vienna lagers/Maerzens where the grain bill has enough Vienna malt to do it). As usual, it's really well rounded with a malt focus and hop-spice accent; and it's perfectly balanced by a stiff bitterness that allows the malt to shine but keeps it from becoming cloying. It finishes dry, but with some residual malt and hops lingering behind. This can be a hard style to do because it's easy to go too light or too full, but they've nailed it. I'd even prefer this to some of the more watered-down versions coming out of Germany for Oktoberfest these days. Really nice! Worth trying!

Pours an orange-amber hue topped by a wisp of off-white head that doesn't have much staying power. Aroma of toasted caramel malt, some light adjunct malt, German lager yeast, and just a touch of hops, along with some notes of bread and light caramel. Palate is sweet and malty, with a nice biscuity character. Aftertaste is slightly astringent. Body is nice and substantial for a lager. The noticeable alcohol prevents this beer from becoming an all-day session type, but it's still quite drinkable. For the price at TJ's, it's difficult to beat in its category.
