a: Deep amber in color that looks like mahogany wood. The head is an off-white color but is not very long lasting or thick. The bubbles are very fine in nature. Beer is quite hazy as to be expected in this style.
s: Very high banana esters with a light bready malt background. This bready malt smell is likely from the wheat. There is also a bit of a clove aroma. Somewhat moderate vanilla notes which complement the other esters well. There is a slight spicy hop aroma that is not very noticeable. I am not detecting any caramel. The fruity esters shine in this beer like they are supposed to without being overwhelming, No diacetyl or DMS detected.
t: Moderate banana flavor and clove flavor. I am also picking up quite a bit of vanilla which helps doesn't seem to help the banana flavor. I thought it would accentuate it, but there is too much of it which draws away from the banana character. Almost makes it somewhat sour. These esters are the dominant tastes in this beer. No hop flavor detected and low bitterness. The wheat gives a grainy background which is low to moderate. No roasted malt is detected. Sweet on the palate with a moderately dry finish. No diacetyl or DMS detected.
m: Medium body with medium carbonation. Somewhat of a creamy feel in the mouth.
o: While I thought this beer was decent, I probably won't be reaching for another. While I think it was brewed pretty much to style, there was a bit too much vanilla esters in the flavor to my liking. I thought it took away from the other fruity and potentially spicy esters. Maybe they could try a different yeast that would have so much of a vanilla profile.

A surprisingly good dunkel for not a lot of cash. Appearance is a cloudy brown with orangey highlights. Nice tan head that fades to a light covering that stays. A touch of lace here and there. Active carbonation is working all the way down. Smell is where starts to impress. It is full of overripe banana and clove. There is some nice malted wheat that cuts through and a lovely yeast ester that works a little bit of alcohol and pepper. Taste is again a really solid effort. All the flavors you want and previewed in the nose wrapped in a banana bread with raisins. Wheat malt gives a solid core. Finish is mild as it should be, slightly tart apples creep in with a darn near perfect balance that leaves more banana and clove and a mild floral hop bitterness. Feel is light and crisp with a lightly tingly carbonation. Light creaminess. Super drinkable and my new winter session brew. At $6.50 a six this is a stupendous value. If you like dunkel and you are feeling the tight economy buy a six of this and put your cares aside for a while.

Pours a murky dark brown with a 2 inch fizzy khaki head that settles to a thin film on the top of the beer. Small dots of lace drip into the remaining beer on the drink down. Smell is of dark malt, dark fruit, banana, spices, and yeast. A nice caramel/toffee smell comes about as the beer warms. Taste is of dark fruit and banana up front followed by spice and yeast flavors. The dark malt flavor comes through on the aftertaste and provides a slightly bready taste. This beer has only a slight level of carbonation and seems a bit sticky/syrupy. Overall, this is a pretty good dunkelweizen but it smells better than it tastes. Also a deal at $1 a bottle.

Poured into my 16 oz weiz beer glass.
A: Dark murky copper with a thich creamy off white head that laces the glass. Low in clarity, which is consistent with the style.
S: Not a whole lot jumps out at me. Notes of apple, and banana and maybe other fruit esters. Light wheat aroma.
T: First notes are of a spiced banana nut bread. This is balanced by a wheat and citrus blend, topped off with coriander and walnuts. Apple and over ripe banana complete a dry yet sweet finish.
M: Low to medium body. Sweeter than it is bitter, and mid range in carbonation.
O: I actually like this beer. Buck a bottle, you really cant beat it.

Bottled purchased from Trader Joe's in Omaha, NE.
Batch number 25611 (whatever that means)
Poured into a Weihenstephaner weizen glass.
Pours a large head, though perhaps small for the style of fairly small bubbles that form a tight, off-white mass of foam. Declines over a minute to a solid cap, 0.5cm high, on top of the beer at all times. No, or little, lacing. Body is dark brown out of light, burnt orange-brown when in. Totally opaque from suspended yeast, carbonation that supports the head somewhat visible.
Aroma of dark brown sugar, brown and wheat malt, and raisins moreso than any banana esters or clove phenols. Some phenols become minutely present as this warms.
Opens with showcase on malt sweetness more than fruity esters or spicy phenols, though I do get some clove flavors. Gentle tartness emerges in mid-taste and carries itself through to the finish. General taste that emerges is sweet, from wheat and darker barley malt, spicy, and slightly tart. Not really what I'd expect from a dunkelweizen, not that this is bad, just not necessarily true to style.
Medium to medium-light in body with semi-prickly carbonation that gradually fades over the course of a sip to being smooth. Mouthfeel is thus both crisp and then creamy. Finish is rather dry.
Overall, I didn't really appreciate this beer. For a dunkelweizen, it seemed to be lacking several characteristic odors and flavors that I do enjoy and miss when not found. I probably wouldn't seek this out again, though their hefeweizen was much truer to style.

12 oz. bottle poured into a mug.
Appearance: Pours a hazy caramel-brown color with minimal off-white head. Little retention, just a bit of film around the edges.
Smell: Malty aroma with brown sugar and bananas.
Taste: Though buried a bit in the carbonation, there's bananas, cloves, and brown sugar. Slightly bready.
Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied and very carbonated. Relatively smooth.
Drinkability: Pretty easy to drink; fairly low ABV.
Decent for this style, and for a cheap Trader Joe's beer. But, I think I'll stick to other styles at Trader Joe's, as I much prefer other Dunkelweizens.

12 oz. bottle,
A: Pours a murky red to brown with a light white head. Fair retention, no lace.
S: Light roast, banana and clove, yeasty, nothing super complex.
T: Banana bread for sure, the yeast is there, a true dunkelweisse. Good malt flavour. To style, nothing too crazy.
M: Medium-bodied, crisp carbonation, pretty easy drinking.
O: Another solid Trader Joe's beer. At the same price as BMC I really can't complain with a B- beer.

medium brown pour with a slight reddish touch to the sides yielded a nice head of off white that stuck to the sides of the glass fairly well as it trickled down. aroma is nice and earthy with touches of roasted nuts and caramel coming through as it warms. nice deep flavor, nothing over the top but nice and consistent for the style, about what i would expect from them. deep sweet malts are driven home in the finish

12 oz single from Trader Joes, Salem store. $1.20 slighly murky hazelnut brown beer with a small dissapating off white head. Spicy, phenolic and slightly sour aromas..the our is a concern seeing how crappily TJs take "care" of their beers. Happily it is not a problem..there is a slight sourness, which is unusual for style but it works against the spices and bubble gum well..semi sweet wheatiness..actually very nice. OK on the tongue..not to thin and to style. Overall a very nice sour wheat beer!

Aroma is strong and malty with a firm fruity overtone that is mainly apple with a shade or two of banana. It pours a hazy, barely transparent mahogany-gold with a thick, if not too persistent, ivory head. Malty, fruity flavor is quite pleasing and refreshing with a hint of yeast. Smooth, firm-bodied texture has a decent amount of fizz. Overall, a rather nice beer.

Pours a murky brownish with nice white head that quickly fades.
The smell is BANANA and a slight spicy zest.
The taste is a little dark fruits as the carbonation rolls over the front with a big banana, bready, and raisin notes on the back.
A decent beer and for $1 a bottle it's holy crap good.

Twelve ounce bottle poured into Barilla jar
Three finger head that dissipates down pretty quickly. Nose is a nice banana-pink bubble gum stick with spicy cloves. Sweet wheat malty in flavor with a nice spicy finish. Has a bit of a watery mouth-feel, could use a bit more bubble and body. Nice fresh tasting brew though. I would recommend!

Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a pint glass.
Appearance: This pours a medium intensity amber brown color, somewhat hazy in the center. A wispy fizzy white head fades pretty fast and doesn't leave much lace. It is worth noting that pouring the second half of the bottle dumped a lot of sediment into the glass. This created a murky brown mess.
Smell: There is not much here. Faint notes of grain, clove, and honey, but it smells like tonic water more than anything.
Taste: This is awful. Fizzy tonic water with only spots of flavor. Some grains and clove, but really this just tastes like an acrid tonic water.
Mouthfeel: Thin, watery, fizzy. The body is almost nonexistent. There is a graininess in the second half of the bottle from the monster load of sediment.
Overall: Was this a bad bottle? This was atrociously bad - I drank just enough of the bottle to ascertain the relevant information and poured the rest.
