Edited this review because my last bottle was flat. Poured into a Gulden Draak tulip. Pours a light to medium golden amber. This bottle has lots of carbonation and poured with a nearly half glass white head. Aroma of Belgian yeast, sweet malt, cloves, hint of banana; spicing strong and almost mineral. Flavor is moderate Belgian spicing and yeast, apple and pear juice, finishes rather dry with light residual hops and spicing. Medium bodied, with pleasant prickly carbonation. Rather light flavored compared to most of Unibroue's other offerings, but what flavor is evident is pleasantly Belgian.

Picked up a 750 ml bottle from Trader Joe's in early February for $5.99. Bottled on 11-03-2013.

Beer poured golden with a beautiful white head that is long lasting.

Nose has light fruits.

Taste is light apple with a light touch of pepper.

Mouthfeel is classic Unibroue, very light and smooth yet lively on the palate.

Overall this is another delicious brew from Unibroue. Definitely a value at this price!

Outstanding off brand of Unibroue, much like a Blanche de Chambly. This has a great overall quality that is associated with Unibroue. The mouthfeel is light and crisp, the flavor is also light, but the flavor is great. All things considered, this is worth a try.

Bottle: Poured a hazy dirty blonde color ale with a huge foamy head with great retention with some great lacing. Aroma consists of Unibroue yeast ester with some rustic malt notes and some peppery notes. Taste is also dominated by some Unibroue yeast ester with some rustic malt notes and a spicy peppery finish. Body is full with great carbonation and no apparent alcohol. Great mix of drinkability and complexity. Another winner from Unibroue.

Trader Joe's line of beers are usually decent quality, but when it's put in the hands of Unibroue, I expect to taste good things. There's 750 ml tonight. On to the beer:

A healthy Belgian-like pour yields a pale golden body with small, visible bubbles, an airy head on top with adequate retention. The aroma is appetizing. On the dry side, with notes of cider, fennel, spiced pear, and a whisper of white pepper.

I like what I'm tasting. Its flavor and mouthfeel seem to play off each other, meaning that one makes the other more appetizing. It starts dry and cidery, and adding to the taste is pear, spice, ginger, balanced with bubbly carbonation which would make the Belgians proud. The alcohol doesn't weigh into the flavor although it hits 7.5% . The beer finished dry with a lingering spice and cider note.

Trader Joe's has a beer which they can proudly sell under their name. Cheers to them and Unibroue for this.

A: Pours a clear pale yellow with a small amount of white head. Just some surface film retains, leaving a small amount of lacing.

S: Honey, yeast, and a small amount of booze.

T: Malty, yeasty, and light citrus.

M: Medium to full body, medium carbonation.

Overall, decent, and excellent for the price. It'd be pretty average if it cost twice the price, but there's not much else that's nearly as good at the price point.

This pours a light straw golden color. There’s a lemony aroma with some coriander and some chamomile competing for second billing. I get a slightly zesty flabor with a lemony, grassy, straw character. The beer itself has tremendous effervescence with this lemony crispness and a lingering bitter finish with some bitter orange marmalade. I called it a Trader Joe-ified Fin du Monde with more lemon. For the price I’ll take it.

Appearance: Pours a gorgeous golden color. Spritzy foam settles to rim of lacing around the glass. Clear, but only barely.
Smell: Grainy smell with large bouquet of citrus and spice. Quite pleasant.
Taste: Bubbly and delicious. Decently sweet and mildly tart with an aftertaste of spices, possibly coriander.
Mouth-Feel: Effervescant, albeit slightly syrupy. The two balance out in a nice way.
Overall: For the price ($5.99 for a 750 ml), I think you'd be hard-pressed to find something as good as this. If you're a newbie to decent beer and also want to be frugal, I think this would be a good intro beer for you. Obviously there are better Belgians out there. I'd say this is inferior the other Unibroue products, but overall an excellent beer for value.

Poured from a 750 mL bottle into a goblet.

Appearance: Big bubbly head formed on top of a hazy, pale, golden-yellow body. The head collapsed and left a bubbly white cap with very little lacing throughout.

Smell: Belgian spices up front... clove, coriander, orange, and dark fruit notes.

Taste: Much like the nose, the spice hits first. Clove and coriander are washed out by strong and slightly bitter notes of orange and other citrus fruits. The malts and yeast lead to a relatively sweet finish, think dark fruits and sweet rolls. My biggest complaint with the taste is that there is a rather medicinal backdrop.

Mouthfeel: Light-medium body. Full carbonation.

Overall: I would say this is like a scaled down "Don De Dieu" from Unibroue, not surprising because they brew this beer. It is underwhelming compared to the bigger names of the style but I will gladly be underwhelmed for such an affordable price. Don't get me wrong, you could do much worse than this beer.

Bottle with a best before date of 2/4/2015

Appearance - clear golden color beer with fluffy white head

Smell - tart apple, ginger, coriander, orange peel

Taste - much like the smell, tart green apple, ginger, coriander, lemon peel

Mouthfeel - heavier side of medium bodied, high carbonation, tartness upfront that turns to sour in the finish, lacks finesse in the finish when compared to others in the style

Overall - not a bad beer for the price, albeit it is a little rough round the edges

Price Point - $5.99/ 750 ML bottle
