A-Dark brown pour with a one finger tan head that leaves virtually no lacing.
S- I can smell all of the 10.5% abv. There are some mild dark chocolate undertones here, and the overall smell is sweet and rich.
T- The ABV didn't come through in the taste as it did in the smell, this thang is smooooth! Subtle bitterness from the hops, and the dark rich malt is very noticable. The sweetness from the black rapadura cane sugar is also a welcomed addition.
M- This drinks rather syrupy and leaves the mouth slightly coated with imperial stout goodness after every swallow.
O-Guanabara is a interesting take on a Russian Imperial Stout. It was less hoppy than I anticipated, and I enjoyed the addition of the cane sugar for sweetness. I have now tried three beers from Cervejaria Colorado: Bertho, Vixnu, and Guanabara. I have been extremely satisfied with their brews, and I will continue to look for them at the store.

On tap in Brazil.
Deepest black color with a thick caramel head with great retention and leaving laces.
Nice aroma of dark chocolate, coffee, pine, caramels, rapadura and licorice.
Bold flavor with notes of licorice, vanilla, cocoa, coffee, plums, red fruits, cola, lots of anise, some lactose and nuts, rapadura, roasted malts and some citrusy. Dry aftertaste with a muffled but present bitterness.
Full body with appropriate carbonation. Alcohol of 10.5% abv is evident and it could be better hidden, but still harmonic with the overall beer. Sticky feeling.
Very complex and solid RIS, but balanced towards the sweet side of it and not counterbalanced by hops. The rapadura gave a nice and interesting local touch, though.
Good local offering, a pity it is not sold at Guanabara prices off-shore. Amazingly, locally an Old Rasputin has a better cost benefit, being cheaper and better.

600 ml bottle into snifter, unknown bottle coding. Pours pitch black color with a 1-2 finger dense tan head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice soapy lacing clings on the glass with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big dark chocolate, cocoa, roasted malt, molasses, toast, dark bread, licorice, raisin, herbal, light char, and roasted earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/roasted malt, dark sugar, and light yeast ester notes; with good strength. Taste of big dark chocolate, cocoa, roasted malt, molasses, toast, dark bread, raisin, licorice, light char, herbal, and roasted earthiness. Light amount of earthy/roasted bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of dark chocolate, cocoa, roast, molasses, toast, dark bread, raisin, light licorice, light char, herbal, and roasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Very nice complexity of dark/roasted malt, dark sugar, and light yeast ester flavors; with a nice roasted sweetness/bitterness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and fairly full bodied; with a very creamy and lightly slick/chalky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is well hidden with only a small warming present after the finish. Overall this is an excellent imperial stout. All around great complexity and balance of dark/roasted malt, dark sugar, and light yeast ester flavors; and very smooth to sip on for the big ABV. A very enjoyable offering.
