Brought back from MN in my luggage. VAL 13A6015 on the bottle. Poured into a chalice.

WOW! Who thought Brazil could make a great beer much less a great stout! Before I had this bought this beer I had never heard of the Brazilian brewery. My expectations were low. The black rapadura fruit definitely gives it complexity, especially in the aroma if one takes the time to look behind the dark fruit. A really great stout. 4.5

A – Pours a black with a reddish tint, opaque with a thin dark tan head that dissipates quickly, some alcohol legs, good lacing 4.5

S – Dark fruit, raisins, dates, some whiskey, a tinch of spice hiding behind all the dark fruit, even a bit of smoke 4.75

T – An even combination of roasty malt, dark fruit, followed at the end by some whiskey. Alcohol is evident but not invasive, some sweetness in the middle, a tinch of caramel. 4.5

MF – Medium-bodied, semi-dry finish. I like the finish a lot – does not finish slick or heavy or syrupy like its taste might belie. 5.0

A- This beer pours a jet black body with a thick tan head that is sticky and slides back into the inky body after each sip.

S- The aroma of banana bread blends with dark molasses and roasted black malt leads to a rich dark chocolate malt finish. Some brewer’s licorice aromas come through as it opens.

T- The mellow but full inky deep roasted chocolate malt is followed by a dark molasses taste, without any tin taste, and some dark fruity with prune hints. There is a nice touch of sweetness and dark roasted flavor that lingers after each sip. A nice char note comes through as the beer opens aswell.

M- The medium-full mouthfeel is creamy in texture with a nice alcohol heat that compliments the flavor.

O- This beer has a rich smooth malt flavor with a great depth and it is really enhanced by the burnt rapadura sugar. This beer is well balance, delicious and a great beer to sip on cool damp days of spring. It really should have it’s own 1-day festival, and some wax on the top.

Guanabara, my first from this unique brewery, gives me hops that something good is happening in Brazil as it looks good. it's pretty thick, not exactly viscous, but it's a nicely heavy-looking near-black brew that manages a good, strong tan head. It's about a full finger tall, it holds up for the session, and it leaves patchy lacing. If looks give me an idea of this beer, good things are ahead.
The aroma shows a substantial malts base with some roast but a somewhat sweeter edge, light notes of toffee, dark fruits and molasses sneaking into a dark chocolate bittersweetness. The sugars seem to provide a note like coffee liqueur.
The taste follows suit, though there's a bit more of a gentle smokiness over everything, seeming to be naturally derived from the roast. While there's a little sweetness, it's more bittersweet, and the cane sugar gives an interesting complement with the majority of the sweetness boiled out. There's a little bit of a stemmy thing, but in tune with the strong malt and the flavors it gives.
The body has a nice thickness, and these guys got the style right. It's not the heaviest, and it shouldn't be, but it's a big, thick, robust and full-bodied stout with just a nip of crispness and plenty of smoothness.

Pours an effervescent mahogany with a thumb of mocha colored head. Nice oily sheen, traces of head retention & lacing

S: Carob & coffee, dark fruit & licorice, boozeyness & oak

T: Follows the nose, plus much molasses , figgyness & dryness & charred grain up front. More dryness, figs, raisins, dark chocolate & charred grain & woody hops & more dark chocolate, carob & leafy hops as this warms, plus more molasses. Finishes dry, with booze burn, a touch of vanilla, oak, caramel, figs & caramel, plus leafy hops & figs

MF: Medium bodied, slight carbonation, body thins out as this warms, a touch of boozey warmth as well

Super complex beer, pretty darn drinkable, spot on for the style. Not world-class, but knocking on the door. Both beers I've tried from these guys have impressed, will hope I can get more. Worth seeking out

600 ml bottle. Served in a DFH snifter, the beer pours dark brown/black with about a half inch tan head. Head retention and lacing are both good. Aroma is mostly sweet, the brew smells like chocolate, molasses, roasted malt, dark fruit, and something that reminds me of brown sugar (which I assume is the Black Rapadura cane sugar listed on the label). The taste is very sweet just like the aroma, it tastes like chocolate, molasses, brown sugar, dark fruit (cherries), roasted malt, vanilla, and some coffee. Mouthfeel/body is medium/full, it's slick and creamy with a good amount of carbonation. I liked this brew a lot, it's a sweeter tasting Imperial Stout. I certainly wouldn't mind buying this again in the future!

Very stoked to find this at a local bar in Curitiba!

Pitch black, with a minimal brown head that dissipates to a thick ring.

Smells of anise, plum, raisin, chocolate, roasted malts, brown sugar, light coffee.

Tastes of brown sugar, caramel, high roast, chocolate, raisins, dates and pecans.

Full bodied, thick, chewy almost.

Impressive, I must say. I really hope I can get a bottle to go to bring back stateside...

A: The beer is black when viewed from afar but when held up to the light, the edge of the glass is clear dark red. It poured with a quarter finger high tan head that died down, leaving some lacing on the surface and a thick collar around the edge of the glass.
S: Light to moderate aromas of lactose and dark malts are present in the nose along with hints of brown sugar.
T: The taste has flavors of lactose and dark malts along with notes of brown sugar along with a slight amount of bitterness.
M: It feels medium- to full-bodied on the palate and has a low to moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer seems to be more like an Imperial Milk Stout instead of a Russian Imperial Stout and lacks roasted malts and much in the way of bitterness, but in any event, it is extremely drinkable considering the strength because any traces of alcohol are well hidden from the taste. All of the flavors seem to mesh well together.
