Oct. 2015: 600 ml botlle, capped with red waxed top, as Colorado Ithaca, from the Norwegian importer. ABV is 10.5%. Black colour, moderate tan head. Nice roasty aroma with notes of chocolate, vanilla, mild coffee and exotic wood. Excellent roasty flavour, coffee, dark chocolate, vanilla, moderately sweet. Moderate hops. Very good beer.

Poured from a 600 mL bottle, refrigerated, into a 12 oz tulip glass. Purchased at Rouse’s Market on Baronne St., New Orleans.

Look: Pitch black. Slight tan head that disappears almost instantly. Visible effervescence.

Smell: Coffee, espresso, dark chocolate, vanilla, marshmallow, roasted sugar, biscotti, red wine, dark fruit.

Taste: Big coffee, chocolate, and cane sugar. Oak and red wine. Alcohol is nearly hidden but some light heat on the back end.

Feel: Great feel. Heavy but smooth, viscous but drinkable. Detectable but subtle carbonation. Again, the 10% alcohol adds weight but is neatly hidden.

Overall: I’m preferential to dark, heavy beers but this was one of the better ones I’ve had recently. Was drawn in by the lure of a Brazilian craft beer and was not disappointed. Highly recommend for big beer lovers and would definitely drink again.

Pours - Jet black nice thick tan head that eventually dissipates to a light ring around the glass some lacing.

Smell - Lots of roasted malt and coffee, very sweet smelling, some chocolate as well. The alcohol is present in the smell.

Taste - Very sweet dark chocolate, I was not sure how the Brazilian cane sugar would taste in this but it is not too sweet. Roasted malts little coffee flavor as well. The alcohol is present but not over whelming.

Feel - Full body, coats the mouth little warmth from the alcohol.

Overall - This is a really good beer, I like the taste it is sweet but not too sweet, nice that the alcohol is not overpowering.

600 ml bottle with a production date that I can't decipher.

Pours a near pitch black with an inch of tan foam. Minimal lacing.

The smell is fruity, roasty, very sweet from the malt and cane sugar. I can't not mention how up in my nose the alcohol is.

Roasted malt, chocolate, sugary sweet malt, hints of licorice in the taste along with a strong alcohol presence. Something tells me that this isn't the freshest bottle out there but perhaps that's a good thing.

Full bodied with medium carbonation.

Despite the strong alcohol notes, I'm enjoying the slow sips that I am taking.

600ml bottle poured into a Half Acre holiday snifter glass. Enjoyed on 1.29.16, reviewed from Tasting Journal.

The beer pours a deep, jet black color, thick and viscous as it pours with a bone colored head, about a finger high with looser bubbles, good retention and lace. The aroma is booming with roasted character, rich grains, brown sugar, light stone fruits and bittersweet chocolate. The flavors again have a monster roastiness, bitter dark chocolate, light coffee, stone fruits linger with dark, malted barley, nice balance of sweetness and roast that is very smooth and rich. The mouthfeel is thick, chewy and coating. It has a bit more carbonation than expected, lively with an easy finish that offers some warmth.

Verdict: A very worth Russian Imperial Stout from Brazil. While not the most complex or unique beer, it's brewed fantastically well to style and is likely one of the more underrated beers in the style. Robust, rich, balanced, a great buy.

$1.99? Sign me up.

Pours a hazel brown that forms a deep, rich blackness in the glass. The head is angry brownish red and settles to a thin ring.

Aromas of Peruvian chocolate, some coffee and roast malts. A strong chemical super glue note ghosts in and out of the nose pretty strongly. I can only guess this is the alcohol speaking up.

Flavor has me surprised and astounded. Right out front it buzzes with authority of juices of fig and plum, flooding the way for a dry punch of chocolates, roast coffee (without being coffee forward), and lightly singed black licorice. Seriously impressive.

The feel is an enigma - juicy, carbonated, and dry. In that order yet all at the same time. The finish is unmistakably dry and dehydrated.

I'm going back for more. This was an absolute steal. Great Russian stout from...Brazil??
