A- black with thin tan head. Good lace
S- sweet, slight hint of esters/fruit, roasted malt...typical porter nose
T- similar to nose. Initial slight estery/fruitiness transitions smoothly to roasty-sweet, coffee/chocolate finish. One of the best balances of hops-malt I've had in a porter.
M- full bodied, silky and slightly creamy. Perfect for the style.
D- very sessionable....very close to perfect for the style

Delicious 12oz can poured into a goblet. Transparent black/brown pour shows clear ruby highlights, the khaki-colored head sticks around but doesn’t lace all that well. Solid nose of toasted nuttiness and cocoa, subdued roast and no char: more cocoa and even hints of coffee in the roast character, smooth and creamy for a smaller brew; bitterness is present but mellow.

From a can to a conical pint glass.
Pours a clear, dark brown with garnet highlights. A 2 finger, light brown head has good retention and lacing as beer level recedes.
Aroma is of bready, dark malts with caramel, chocolate, and coffee notes. Mild dark fruit is included.
Taste is lightly burnt toast with a mildly sweet malt (chocolate) finish. Fruity esters are moderate. A low moderate roasted grain bite provides bitterness. Low hop flavor and bitterness. Mild alcohol.
Mouthfeel is medium body, a watery finish, and light carbonation.
Overall, a clean, dark malty beer with enough complexity to make it interesting but not substantial. A fairly mild but good American porter.

Pilot Rock is a clean beer. Beautiful in fact, with a deep stained mahogany color complete with crimson highlights. A creamy khaki colored headrests above maintaining good surface coverage and spotty lacing.
Like any good English style Porter, this boasts a a lot of mineral, or metallic aromas. Burnt toast scrapings lie underneath with just a few drops of caramel.
Toasted bread again comes forth as the main ingredient, then roasted coffee and finally followed by a soy sauce like sweetness, and even a little olive brine.
The body is a bit thin and heavily carbonated. Almost spritzy, really. Pretty well balanced, but if anything it leans lightly on the sweet side.
Overall, it's okay. Not my kind of Porter, as I like a little more heft and roasty bitterness to compliment the rest. Cheers.

Poured into a becher pint glass, the appearance was a dark brown color with some dark ruby red highlights along the sides of the glass. The head was about a finger's worth in depth and slid off at a fairly nice pace. Some light spotty lace ran here and there.
The aroma had some roasty and sweet coffee tones playing with a light herbal to grassy hop effect and then a light milk chocolate came in underneath for a slight balance.
The flavor was mainly sweet with the herbal quality coming in nicely for a decent balance. Light blend of the coffee, milk chocolate and a touch of vanilla extract in the aftertaste.
The mouthfeel was between light and medium bodied with a fair sessionability about it. Nice wet smooth texture along my tongue like a good porter should be. Carbonation felt good. ABV felt spot on. Smooth semi-sweet balanced finish.
Overall, pretty nice porter that I would be willing to come back to.
