Hazy amber in color, high carbonation nets a three finger high parchment colored head. The foam is frothy and thick, high retention that never does go away and dense clumps of lacing.

Whole grain toast and caramel sweetness from the malt, a standard fare with a bit of fig and red fruit esters from the yeast. Hop aroma is rather poor, grassy and some pungent earthy herbs.

Bread and stale dinner rolls, husky grains and a twinge of metallic in the after taste. Hop flavors are hay and some pine but largely muted. IPA strength alpha acids, very earthy. Rather disappointing.

Drinkable, medium bodied with carbonation that is average to overdone. Alcohol is hidden well. Drying and earthy bitterness makes the mouthwater a bit leaving the grainy notes and alcohol to lay across the tongue.

By my standards this is an amber and a pretty poor one, lots of playful fruit comes out with a drying bitterness but the malt is grainy and porous and the hops are just not there. Caldera is one of those breweries that has faded from memory recently. Their standard IPA in a can a much better representative of what they can do with hops.

Pours a nice amber color, dark for an IPA, but pleasing. Very clear, nice head. Smell is floral hops, not too strong, but really nice. Taste is the same. It's well balanced, good hoppy flavors, feels pretty good... It actually reminds me a lot of nugget nectar. If it's well priced, I'd buy this again.
