From Bottle Rev in Raleigh.

Appropriate chocolate brown pour with 1/2 finger cap of mocha head. Not much retention. Thin lace sheets all around the glass.

Very rich chocolate nose. Extremely rich. Some lighter toffee, vanilla, and a hint of cinnamon underneath. But this one is really all about the chocolate.

A bit of smoked, roasted malt but as in the nose the beer is heavy with chocolate malt. While not quite as rich as the nose, the chocolate is still the overwhelming flavor in the glass. Touch of chocolate bitters, along with roast malt, in the finish. A touch of grapefruit hops might be hiding there, too, but really hard to distinguish.

Body is appropriate for a porter, but hoping for a little more based on the strong chocolate flavor.

Overall, well done. Hides the abv really well. Drinks very easy.

No date on the bottle, but purchased about one month earlier at an awesome joint in Jamaica, Vermont called Meuleman's. Opened 25 March 2014.

A: The Mogli poured a dark ruby out of the bottle, but was a dark brown in the glass. 1/2 finger of lightly tan head, which dissipates into ring. There is a tiny amount of scattered lace.

S: Deep Chocolate roast. Cocoa nibs, dark chocolate. Some milk chocolate too. Little bit of booze mixes things up. Maybe a little vanilla behind all that chocolate. Smells very good and I feel like I'm missing something obvious. It really reminds me of a chocolate egg cream. Although so chocolatey, its very well balanced.

T: Nice dark chocolate. Maybe a little oak, but I feel that the nose was more complex and interesting. I may be getting distracted by the mouthfeel though.

MF: While it may be standard for a porter, It comes across as thin for a porter this size. It can't support the flavors in the rest of the beer, which are so substantial.

O: This brew is so close to being fantastic, and I would definitely purchase again. I hope that Caldera makes a sister to the Mogli in which the feel of this brew is more substantial.

Thanks Jae!

A- Darker brown transparent around the edges. Thin lacing around the glass. No legs

S- More malt than anything. No real vanilla essence. Well, I guess a bit.

T- Vanilla in the front for me. Malts in the background. Leaves a weird aftertaste but a well done brew.

M- Kinda thin, creamy.

O- A well done porter with some nice adjuncts in there.

M-

Poured into a tulip glass from a pint bottle.

Pours an enticing dark chocolate brown with a 1 finger light toffee colored head. Slight carbonation as it sits, the head dissipates quickly. Nice lacing as you drink. There is a thin layer of lighter brown on the top, which gives way and blends into a dark brown.

The aroma I get is mostly of oak and chocolate. The oak is more noticeable as the beer warms in the glass. There is a slight hint of roasted dark malts and bitter coffee. You can pick up an alcoholic smell with a good deep sniff of the beer.

Great tasting beer. A mixture of dark and milk chocolate comes through at first and has an oaky finish. The roasted malts come through as it warms up in your mouth. A slight hint of coffee is in there as well.

To me, a disappointing mouthfeel. The flavors all blend together amazingly, but it feels a little thin for a beer of the size and depth.

I will be eagerly awaiting getting another chance to drink this beer.

A: pours a dark brown, nearly black with mahogany color around the edges when held to the light. Thin beige head that quickly reduced to a bubbly beige collar along the edge of the glass.

S: very sweet with woody undertones! Sweet milk chocolate dominates, a good dose of vanilla adds to the sweetness. A slight woody booziness really enhances the aroma and balances out the sweetness so its not overbearing.

T: once again milk chocolate and vanilla dominate but a little better balance than the aroma suggests. Heavy milk chocolate with a bit of vanilla upfront, a hint of oak. Roasted malt/chocolate malt give a dose of breadiness that balances the sweetness. Finishes with a nice dry oakiness.

M: Medium bodied, smooth and a bit creamy, slight carbonation

Wish this was a little easier to find because its a fantastic brew. Only complaint (and this is not picking especially with a porter over a stout) is that the mouth feel is a little light. If you want chocolate, no reason to look anywhere else.

2013 vintage. Poured from a white wax capped bomber into a snifter, the beer is a hazy, muddled, opaque, dark brown coloring with a thin film of head that quickly disappears. Aromas of milk chocolate, vanilla, booze, and wood highlights. Smells great, with the nose leaning towards the sweet side. Very inviting and smooth characteristics. Flavors are chocolate forward, with a solid blast of booze in the backbone. It lures you in with sweet and smooth, all while gently warming you with the increased ABV. Well done. Chocolate notes are also highlighted by vanilla and cream highlights, and hints of bitterness throughout. Very balanced and drinkable. The body is dry, but smooth and full at the same time. Slightly more bitterness in the chocolate characteristic that makes up the aftertaste, combining with the booze character to give a little bite along with the warmth. The finish is slightly boozy, with a subtle dryness accompanying the warmth left behind. This is unique, and damn tasty. Worth seeking out.
