Got this one at Bert’s Bierhuis in Utrecht. Had been wanting to try this one for a while, so it was cool to see it show up locally.

From a bomber into a snifter
White wax
Oak aged imperial porter with chocolate

APPEARANCE: Clear brown pour yields a two finger, medium looking, fluffy, light tan head with good retention. Dark brown body with lots of carbonation. Piles of carbonation everywhere. Head slowly fades to a thick foamy cap that’s supported by all the crazy carbonation all over the place. Eventually fades to a splotchy wisp that leaves decent lacing down the glass. This is okay but the carbonation is just out of control.

SMELL: Oak and definite chocolate on the nose. Chocolate truffles or bon bon, even. Light vanilla and sweet cream from the oak, but chocolate is definitely the dominating trait here.

TASTE: Chocolate up front with oak and some vanilla flavor as well. Lingering and bold aftertaste of milk chocolate truffles, oak, sweet cream, a hint of hop bitterness with some alcohol too. A bit of spicy alcohol right at the swallow, which was rather unexpected. Pretty flavorful, but the chocolate is rather overdone.

PALATE: Thinner body with higher levels of carbonation. Lighter on the palate, slightly airy, does down okay and finishes a bit sticky.

OVERALL: Okay I guess. There are some good things here, but the feel is a bit too thin and light, it’s too carbonated, and the chocolate could be toned back a bit. Not something I’d necessarily go for again, but wouldn’t turn down a glass of a future batch of this. A few tweaks and it could be a real treat.

I've been wanting this brew for a very long time, since 2011. Let's get down to the brew. This puppy pours a nice dark brown body almost on the verge of being black. With very dark brown hues gleaming the outskirts of my tulip glass. Nice creamy mocha head made up with tiny bubbles. Looks fantastic! The aroma is just a dense chocolate bar feeling. Nice baked cookie dough in the backend. Not picking up any oak, but this beer smells Amazing! The flavor is just as amazing. Chocolate and roast with some cookie dough sweetness. This brew finishes on time smooth/sweet and slight bitterness with a touch of toasted oak. Simply amazing. This brew has medium volume in the body with par carbonation.

Overall: Move over Sugar! Daddy's got a sweet tooth tonight! This brew is delicious beyond belief. This really reminds me of Imperial Biscotti Break, with more delicious chocolate. Smooth and sweet like some milk chocolate. This is packing some flavor for sure. It was a bit pricey, but worth it to me! This brew is recommended.

White waxed 22oz bottle, poured into a teku glass, 2013 vintage

A- pours a deep but not quite opaque black color with a small creamy khaki colored head that retains into a film on top, leaving some short lasting lace behind

S- first impression on the aroma is of freshly baked chocolate chip cookies. Beyond that, layers of whipped cream, coconut, dark cherry, booze soaked toasted oak, vanilla, burnt toffee & a hint of coffee and chocolate to close it out

T- deep layers of chocolate complexity up front mix with notes of caramel malt, malted milk balls & heavy vanilla cream. Hints of herbal hop and booze soaked black cherry. The oak presence isn't notched until the finish, but adds nice nutty & earthy notes in the close

M- medium body with moderate-light carbonation leads to a creamy mouthfeel and a smooth finish, highly drinkable

O- a very approachable, yet complex porter. Chocolate takes center stage, with underlying oak that adds good contrast to the chocolate sweetness, very good
