22oz bomber with white wax seal poured into a snifter

Appearance: Very dark brown in color with a finger of a tan head that dissipates quickly to a thin collar. Body is dark, but small hints of ruby red are visible when held up to the light.

Smell: Aroma is hugely chocolaty. Milk chocolate, cocoa powder, vanilla, with hints of roast and earth. Smell is a bit one dimensionally chocolaty, but very inviting.

Taste: Milk chocolate, roasted malt, coffee, earthy hops, nutty. Very well balanced and drinkable.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with medium carbonation. Overall a bit too thin. Alcohol is almost undetectable.

Overall: This is a really good beer. Balanced, flavorful and very smooth. I'm not sure how much the barrel aging adds, but nevertheless this is a great beer that's worth seeking out.

Served in a pint.

Appearance: Opaque black color with a strong brown tint to it, head it straight tan almost average looking except for how high it rose, roughly one finger's length.

Smell: Wow, talk about a real milk chocolate scent with a hit of coffee. Abolsutelt smells like dessert.

Taste: One sip of this masterpiece isn't enough, tastes like a cup of coffee with vanilla cream with hits of light bitterness and caramel.

Mouth: Ridiculously smooth...sweet finish with medium carbonation on the body.

Overall: Has borderline "breakfast stout" properties, so smooth and to leave it on the shelf is an absolute sin. I bought this months ago on my last trip to PA and can honestly say probably the best porter I've had in my life. Don't believe me, have one on me...Salud!

22oz into a tulip. Pours a deep chocolate brown w/ a 1-finger khaki head.

Aroma is big, rich, quality chocolate and smooth roasty malt. Smells like my kitchen with brownies in the oven. Damn this smells good.

Taste follows nose. Rich, delicious dark chocolate and bitter roasted malt. Smooth vanilla as it warms. This is a very tasty beer.

Mouthfeel is smooth, balanced, and decadent. Semi-dry, presumably from the oak. Nice chocolatey aftertaste.

Overall a truly outstanding imperial porter. Everything works together in harmony.

A rather pretty beer, slightly thinner looking than I thought, with a deep black cherry color and thinnish toasted bone colored head. Clung to the glass in an interesting way (as a malbec might).

This beer has a striking milk chocolatey nose, almost kit-katty in it's lightness. It worried me a little, to think it might be as sweet as the candy, but upon tasting it I was pleasantly surprised: it's more as if you're breathing chocolate than guzzling it. Definitely has it's sweetness, but with a thinner more nimble body it doesn't bog you down.

I tasted a bit of vanilla, and I think paired with the slight slight oakiness and decent abv, it reminded me much more of a good vanilla extract than vanilla bean. There's a light bitterness in the roast also, which is what I think kept this beer nicely balanced and me coming back for more.

Definitely a friendly sort of beer. Not syrupy, nor too hot. That being said, I'm definitely not your classic chocolate fiend... but it was nice to meet you Mister Mogli. Next time I might try to drink it with a chocolate banana flan, a burger with a emmanthaler, or late night with a bowl of cocoa krispies.
