Notes/Commercial Description:
Caldera's Hop Hash Ale is a partnership with Hopunion, LLC. Hop Hash is like a breakfast hash, but mashing different hop varieties instead of meat, potatoes and spices--a twist on the American-Style Strong Pale Ale using pure lupulin for bitterness, taste and aroma. This ale gets its name from pure hop lupulin extracted and scraped from the Hopunion pelletizing line. Lupulin is the glandular powder separated from the strobiles of the Humulus Lupulus (hops) plant.

Pours a half finger of head on an amber body.
The aroma is caramel and grapefruit, but pretty faint overall.
The taste is full of caramel with some danky lemon and pine.
The texture is crisp with soft edges.
An enjoyable brew.

A: Poured from a bottle to a pint glass. Had an amber color and a hazy consistency. There was an inch of foamy, fairly long-lasting head. Very good lacing.

S: An average aroma of hops, pine, and some fruit.

T: Tasted of a moderate amount of hops, light fruit (pineapple), a little malt, and some pine. Like the flavor for Caldera's Hopportunity Knocks, this flavor is a little to hops-forward, leaving a very bitter aftertaste. None of the other ingredients are powerful enough to make an impression.

M: A good amount of carbonation with a bitter finish. Medium-bodied.

O: Hop Hash simply misses the mark. It's out of balance and unfocused, which is never a good thing.
