Stopped by BottleWorks on vacation to Seattle. Had to limit myself since I was flying back, but man was this place awesome. Deep building is dimly-lit (I assume to protect the beer), and is jam-packed with excellent brews. The selection was phenomenal, I walked out with some Stone, Port Brewing, Bear Republic, Pike, Boulder Beer Co., Elysian, Hair of the Dog, Full Sail, Speakeasy, and a few other gems, including an '03 SN Bigfoot. The quality was exceptional, and all beers were properly stored and dated.
Service was friendly and courteous, although the first guy I talked to didn't quite understand when I asked him how widespread the availability of Stone 12th Anniversary was. Granted, that's a bit of a nitpick... Also, I was a bit disappointed they had run out of Hair of the Dog Adam, and didn't carry their Blue Dot. Other than that, a fantastic store that I hope to return to one day.

Bottleworks is a Seattle beer institution, but they have some stiff competition these days. Where they shine is the depth of their cellar and their special relationships with breweries up and down the West Coast (and probably beyond). Their anniversary events and beers are legendary. I'm not crazy about the dark, cave-like atmosphere (or the choice of music most days) and their 21+ policy is a bit inconvenient if I want to just run in and grab a few bottles but have the kid in tow. But if a certain beer comes out you can almost be assured that BW will have it -- and also that they'll likely sell out before any other store in town. Staff is helpful if you need help. Prices are on par with other places.
