After almost giving up hope that Washington had a truly exceptional place to find beers, I went to Bottleworks and my faith in humanity was immediately restored.

From the get go you know this is a place of quality by simply looking at the empty bottles that adorn the entrance - a few vintage Anchor OSA, a Bells 5000th batch, and a few other desirable collectables. However, my expectations were somewhat low as a quick peek at the website lead me to believe that the selection would be similar to what one can find most anywhere, but no no no! Trust their website not - the lineup here was most impressive

I was especially delighted to see all the "regional/local" beers that they had, as none of these - though but 50 miles or less away - are available anywhere else I checked. In addition, there are a few unique "Bottleworks" brews as well, available only at this store, of which one is brewed in Belgium and one heck of a beer! Together with the other standards of a first rate beer store - Stone, Dog Fish Head, etc, this is a very spectacular lineup.

Although I received a less then warm reception the very first time I visited this store, visiting a second time proved that the less than stellar serivce was an abberation. The store is run by folks very serious about their beer and who love what they do, and this is not only evident in the 5's in service given by others who've rated this store, but clear as day when I chatted with Craig who spent a few minutes with me to find one absolutely amazing beer.

After leaving Bottleworks the second time, I realize that the only downside is that there aren't more of them. Whether you're intrested in finding Washington beers that you just can't find anywhere else, or just looking for a store that knows a great deal about great beer, then Bottleworks is the place to go. I can't recommend this place enough.

dB

Addendum - visited again - brilliant, brilliant, brilliant! Picked up a JW Lees 1997, 1999, 2000 and 2001. Need I say any more?

Visited during a trip to Seattle. I expected it to be larger, after hearing about it for so long. It's kinda small, but dang do they pack quality into a smaller space! So many awesome beers, including many older beers (for much more money). I focused on the barleywine/stout section, which was insane. Tons of choose from and the prices were pretty reasonable. You can find one or two of these for less at other places, but I couldn't find a single place that had such a wide selection. Service was awesome! Had a great time chatting with the guy at the front. Highly recommended!

Recently made my first visit after all this time. Small space, a long and narrow room, with about 10 taps towards the back. Nice selection of draft. Singles kept in coolers, by style. Not much focus on 6/4 packs (although some were available). Good choices of Imports, Local, and Regional beers. Certainly worth stopping in at.

The local craft brew store.

They have a great selection, and will be happy to talk beer nerd with you. If you're looking for something, but don't know why, they are legit.

For a small establishment this has a very nice variety and selection of high end beers. The staff are very knowledgeable and helpful. The seating areas are small and dark.

Great variety of beers, though other places have different varieties of Northwest beers not found here. However there are many single cans and 12 oz bottles available so it's great for sampling new beers. They have a lot of sours, barrel aged, and other exotics. Also a lot of German and Belgian bottles. Price and selection are for the high end.

Everything is refrigerated, which is a big plus given the many rare and expensive bottles that are unaccountably left on warm shelves at so many places. I haven't tried the tap offerings but the last few times I've been there I would have tasted virtually everything, except for the long day already and another two hour drive ahead. But it's the place I stock up if I haven't been to Washington for while.

My main complaint is they take the light vs. beer issue to an extreme and the place is so dim you feel like a few candles would be in order. I scan the coolers for brands and then have to open the doors and often pull bottles out to get an angle where I can read the beer name or brewery. But very atmospheric.

first time out in seattle...first stop i visited. could have spent the whole day there. sat w/ the wife to have a few on tap selections. being the awesome woman she is, she blatantly noted we'd never have this type of selection at home (que to empy the wallet). had multiple conversations w/ staff and random customers...all very friendly and knowledgable. left w/ over a case of local goods and a smile. the wine store next door sells travel packaging kits so everything made it back to new england unscathed. no question this is a must stop!

Bottleworks is one of, if not the most famous bottle shops in Seattle. As a visitor, it is the only bottle shop I would've known about before looking at reviews for places in Seattle. They had a great selection with good prices. The selection wasn't significantly better than most of the good shops in Seattle, but you can find some of their older anniversary beers available, which was pretty cool. My biggest complaint would be the size of the shop and the darkness of the store. It was often difficult to see into the cooler because of the lighting. Obviously, you don't want the shop lit up like Times Square, but I'm not certain they should be impairing visibility as much as they currently are doing. All in all, a must stop for any BA in the Seattle area.

One of the premier shops in Seattle, without question. Yes, it's been overtaken, in some respects, by newer places, but it's still, and will always be, a gem of the local scene. Knowledgeable staff, a well-curated selection (of domestics, and, especially, of imports), special access to Rare Beer, a prodigious cellar (and the patience to keep it and hold beers back many years before putting them on the shelves), and the firm and clear policy to allow and even welcome the breaking up of 4- and 6-packs for single purchase, all truly help to distinguish it from the other bottle shops in town.

Truly, one of the grande dames of the entire Pacific Northwest beer scene.

Nice little shop that fills growlers and has solid selection. Lots of west coast stuff, snagged some Helldorado while there, though I was hoping for a bit more. Granted, they did have a bottle of RR Deviation for $120 that was tempting me pretty hard. Nice service, and overall neat spot. I'm sure I'd be in plenty if I lived in the area.

Great selection of beers. Naturally lots of fremont brewing stuff. However, the guy working the counter (was wearing glasses) was terribly dismissive and just not a pleasure to speak to.
