Short Review. This was nice and it was dominated by chocolate to make for a chocolate syrup like flavor and aroma, but it was pretty sweet and boozy, along with the lack of complexity it held it back a little, a little bit is enough for me, a full glass would be too much. I like it, but I'm not sure I would buy it.

Like drinking a Hershey chocolate bar.

750ml bottle, enclosed in a very wordy (well, I guess it is a manifesto of sorts, after all) shiny cardboard box.

This beer pours a solid black, no edges, no highlights, no nuthin', with one measly finger of weakly foamy, and placidly bubbly brown head, which leaves (somewhat surprisingly) a bit of low-lying sea-spray lace around the glass as it quickly wafts off.

It smells quite readily of chocolate milk syrup (Nestle Quik, etc), after it's been liberally squirted into the glass of milk, with some of the sweetest milk chocolate chunks added to the mix, all before a chocolate-wrapped caramel candied malt makes itself known, alongside some of that bullshit sugary chocolate vodka that someone likes enough that they keep making it. The taste is still all about the rendered cocoa bean - melted, yet cool, milk chocolate fudge, vanilla cream, more ice-cream topping syrup (and the ice-cream, for that matter), a subtle raisin and currant black fruitiness, Caramilk, free-radical milk sugars, and a suggestion of coffee borne out by the temperature-dependent alcohol - Kahlua is hardly out of the question by this point - best I keep my wife away from this, then.

The bubbles are pretty much on low-fi standby for this whole heady affair, the body medium-heavy in weight, due in no small part to you-know-what, and smooth, creamy, and silken by the same measure. It finishes sweet, of course, the overbearing chocolate relaxing somewhat, possible in light of the persistently understated alcohol, and under-appreciated caramel malt.

While this surely has more cocoa than the BNL release, it it less rich, weirdly, even with all the milky components. It does seem to lag a bit from its audacious introduction, but that's hardly a reason for deduction. If there's a better (or more brash) credo for chocolate and milk stout out there, I don't think my tastebuds are capable of processing it, not after this. True to style, but amped-up a notch, or rather, a logarithmic tenfold.

Imbiber beware, this is a beer to be shared. Both aroma and flavor are the closest one can come to chocolate syrup without drinking Hershey's itself. As a man with a sweet tooth, I found this beer to be quite enjoyable and an incredibly interesting experience overall. That being said, I am compelled to reflect the sentiments of other reviewers in that finishing a full 750mL of Chocolate Manifesto in one evening was a bit of a task (I won't say it was a chore, as I thoroughly enjoyed it, but it was certainly an undertaking). My 2-cents would be to break this bottle open and enjoy in moderation with some folks who have a bit of a sweet tooth but aren't generally drinkers of dark beers, as while this is a dessert beer to behold, it is a seriously significant deviation from the style.
