I often walked past this intriguing little colourful bottle in my local MLCC. Been meaning to try this beer for quite sometime. Anyway cut to the chase, i purchased one and very glad that I did.

On opening the bottle, the slight smell of Coffee and slight wiff off chocolate greet you. Also a wonderful smell off malts. Enjoying it already and not even tasted it yet!

The pouring of the beer produced swirling tones of brown and amber shades, finished off with a nice decent creamy head.

Now for the taste, the earlier smell off chocolate and coffee were now evident with my first taste, and the malts kicked in seconds later. I am enjoying this!

Mouthfeel excellent, a slight bubbly feel if that makes sense.
Overall I really enjoyed this delightful Dark Ale. I will not be walking past this little rascal again. Well worth a try.

A: Dark brown, slightly transparent with a ruby tinge, but not transparent enough to see through it or see any carbonation. Thick 5 finger tan brown stiff head with great retention.

S: Chocolaty coco malt with citrusy orange peel hops, hints of coffee and pine, snow, slightly fruity lemony notes.

T: Chocolaty coffee notes come in with lemon zest, citrus notes, then for a moment its flat like I’m having a brown ale in comparison, but its followed by a bitter hit that lingers in mouth. Not as hoppy or dramatic as Yamika Glory, but a good brew just the same.

M: Medium malty almost stout like body with low carbonation.

O: Really not a bad version of this beer. I find it somewhat lacking in the middle, and a little incongruent. Really not a bad effort though on this brewery's part.

355ml brown bottle poured in a pint glass. Purchased from Zyn in Calgary.

Light brown head is 1 inch on the pour. Recedes to a thick cap with gobs of lacing down the sides. Dark Brown, cola in appearance.

Roasty coffee notes. Roasted and burnt malts. Flowery and citrus hops in the background.

Roasty malt flavours up front. Hints of burnt malt, coffee, chocolate, toffee with just a hint of hops in the background.

Light-Medium bodied. A little thin for what I was expecting. Lightly carbonated.

An easy drinking brew. It could use a little more hops to give it some bite and balance. Not the best I've had, but all in all a good effort.

Pours a nice brownish black with about three fingers of mocha head. Aroma is very malty, chocolate, coffee, with a little cream or vanilla sweetness and a dash of citrus hops. Taste is again malts forward, a well-integrated blend of creamy coffee, chocolate, a nutty bitterness. Hops are second place to the malts, does not taste like an IPA but more like a well-bittered and refreshing dunkel with more floral and leafy aromatics. I taste little citrus but its lurking in there somewhere. Very dry finish and a crisp refreshing character to go with the dark roasty malts. Only had one bottle in my possession and would welcome another.

Appearance - Pours a dark ruby brown with a finger width of beige head.

Smell - Leafy and piney hops, coffee bean, roasted malts, hint of vanilla bean.

Taste - Bold roasted flavours of malts and coffee bean up front, along with the hops and hint of vanilla. Roasted flavour lingers in the aftertaste.

Mouthfeel - Medium bodied with moderate carbonation.

Overall - An interesting take on the Cascadian by adding so much roasted/coffee bean character to it. A bit malt heavy and I would like to taste more hops in this.
