Hey, should we have a new category for Canadian IPA? The answer is no, of course, unless there evolves something unique, like AIPA's. That said, this is an excellent example of the style.
It pours a perfect dark yellow with loads of head that turns into lacing. The aroma is a cut above with a sweet hoppiness that is stronger than most. The taste follows suit, with a great balance of high taste ingredients - loads of hops offset with a malty and yeasty taste. Nothing wimpy about this, true to over the top American style IPA. The aftertaste is a nice refreshing bitterness.
This is a major success on tap. I will try it from a bottle if I ever see it. I am pretty sure that this brewer is new to our area even though they are less than 300 miles from here. It's nice to see more great brewing in Canada, eh.

355ml brown bottle with pry-off cap poured in a nonic pint glass. Purchased from Zyn in Calgary.
Amber-orange and a little hazy. White head is 1/2 inch on the pour but recedes to a thin cap with lots of lines of lacing on the sides.
Big and juicy aroma. Citrusy hops and sweet malts. Grapefruit, orange, apricot, caramel. Simply mouthwatering!
Big bash of hops right off the start. Heavy handed citrusy hops bulldoze the palate through the front and middle, leading to a hop bitter finish that scours the tongue and roof of your mouth. A real hop-bomb for sure. While the aroma is quite balanced, the taste is missing a little more malt backbone. There is some malt to lightly tug on the reigns of the galloping stagecoach of hops, but not enough in my estimation.
Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. There is a slight oily feel from the hops.
Hop lovers will really enjoy this, but I'm partial to a little more balance and drinkability in my beers. If you're a hop head this is a must have, but a definite try for everyone.

355 ml bottle picked up from the singles bin from the LCBO for $2.00 CDN
Appearance- Bottle poured into a pint glass. Nice dark copper / brown color with 1 finger of head which sticks around for a few minutes. Nice white cap and head looks frothy and rich as it dissipates. Good lacing too. Minimal effervescence, but nonetheless the beer looks pretty damn good.
Smell - Big nose of citrus, grapefruit, lemon with just a faint sweetness to it that helps balance the scent. Also pine notes in addition to the fruity goodness.
Taste - Big time pine / spruce flavors up front which transition into the lemon and grapefruit flavors. Grapefruit is especially prominent here. Long lasting and dominant pine / grapefruit aftertaste.
Mouthfeel - Lowish carbonation combined with the flavors leaves a strong aftertaste, that to me does not lend itself the beer serving a means to quench thirst. In addition my mouth is actually parched after drinking this (although less so after a nice big gulp).
Overall - A good beer, but I think i prefer other locally brewed IPA's in comparison with this one.
