Smashbomb is an IPA, but with a blast of Citra hops in. Poured a yellowish-ruby, slightly orange, but a bit of red with a nice thick head that did not dissipate at all throughout consumption.

Flavour is malty, with distinct notes of Crystal, Pale Malts and either a black or german malt. There is a VERY distinct hop aroma and flavour. Inlcuding, but not limited to, notes of grapefruit, lemon/lime, pineapple and mango.

The first taste is definitely bitter. But a lighter, blossoming explosion of malt comes through. The overall impression was one of a flavourful and rich brew that slowly fades away.

Mouthfeel is slightly thick a velvety with very little alcohol backbone. Strong notes of hops and excellent texture.

Overall, this brew is exceptional, let it sit to room temperature and it gets even better! The fruit and floral notes come through even more so and the dry hoppiness becomes true happiness! Cheers!

Bottle tasted in comparison to Racer 5 (Bear Republic) and Alesmith's IPA.

A: It's got great head retention and a clear golden-copper colour.

S: Bready, biscuity with a bright passionfruit aroma. It's super balanced between citra-type hops and toasty malts.

T: A good balanced of the biscuit and the citrus of the hops. It's got that tropical fruit (mango, passionfruit) on the finish. Very enjoyable.

M: Creamy and medium. A good IPA mouthfeel.

O: It's really one of the best Ontario IPAs. It's very balanced and got some real nice west coast flavours. Personally, I prefer the pine tastes of Mad Top over the tropical tasting Smashbomb most of the time, but this is a great beer too!

Fierce and demanding. Gold and cloudy; faint carbonation that expires quickly. Powerful, fresh citrus and toffee nose held in great balance. Body delivers an overpowering, sharp hop bite that does not recede but grows in dryness; accompanied by slight but persistent malt base. This playfully-marketed IPA is a welcome Canadian addition to the American uber-hopped style.

On cask at Volo.

A - Orange/copper coloured.

S - Pine and citrus fruits.

T - Big mango/grapefruit start, wonderfully hoppy. The malt backbone is present, but the hops take center stage.

M - Very easy to drink, not an overly viscious feel, which I find with beers that are this hoppy.

D - This is the best IPA I've had out of Ontario. It's very easy to drink.

My favourite Flying Monkeys brew to date, an exquisitiely good hop explosion with an incredibly satisfying mouthfeel.

Pours with good amount of clean head that becomes a fine soapy cloudy when the head dies down. Stays around for the whole drinking experience. Cloudy from a lot of hop sediment specks, colour is a dark carrot orange.

You can smell the tantalizing Citra hops right away and the rest of the aromas are drowned out, I can only say that everything else just smells clean and inviting.

The first sip delivers a strong kick of the promised hops and the 6.0% ABV is evident just in the impact that you get right away. There is a lot of delicious citrous flavour in this as can be expected. The hops are central to this beer but are complemented nicely with 'Crystal' malt as the named backbone.

My experience is usually first citrousy malt combination followed by a cleansing hop punch that continues to the back of the tongue. I absolutely love this IPA and keep coming back to it despite all the amazing new beers piling up in my cellar that I keep meaning to get to.

I love burbing when I drink this beer, it tastes just as good bubbling back up as it does going down.

You can get these at most LCBO's for $12.75 for a six pack. Great value for one of Ontario's absolute best craft beers.

Had to try this one. The other two offerings I've had from Flying Monkeys (Hoptical Illusion and Netherworld) were disappointments, but a friend told me good things about this one.

Appearance: Amber coloured. Unfortunately the bartender gave me a stadium pour. After a good swirl the beer developed a nice thick head that left big sticky rings of lace all down the glass.

Smell: Complex. Citrusy hops, notes of pear, berries, grapefruit. Small amount of pine, and some caramel sweetness. I am loving this.

Taste: Delicious. Big time grapefruit hops, I usually prefer the piney hops to be the dominant flavour but this beer delivers. Grapefruit citrus, small amount of malt sweetness, the pear flavours detected in the nose are definitely there, notes of apple, small amounts of piney hops, big bitterness to the finish and slight alcohol tingle.

Mouthfeel: Very oily, leaves the tongue wanting more.

Overall: This is an absolute home run, and the best Ontario brewed IPA I've had since the Church-Key days of Sgt. Major. It is the closest thing to a true American IPA I've had on tap in years. I love this beer.

A: copper/amber. Good head retention. Lacing evident.

S: Earthy pine dominent.

T: Pretty bitter upfront, stays on the palate for a long time, but is not overly harsh. Pine flavors all around. Not a whole lot of citrus, but there's something brighter hiding behind all those IBU's. Taste some orange on the finish. Personally, I'd like some more citrus to balance the bitterness.

M: Medium body, fairly high carbonation level.

After tasting their bland "Hoptical Illusion" I was a bit on the fence on Smashbomb until I tried it last weekend. This is an amazing beer full of life and hops! I find this beer highly complex and full of body and character. The hops explode in your mouth and this has all the characteristics that beer snob (like me) live for.

Highly recommended on tap and as i write this I am enjoying a bottle and it is pretty darn good too !

This didn't really bring anything to the table. Especially if you're used to craft beers on the East coast and Michigan.
Appearance: Very clear. It put me off. I like full bodied IPA's.
Smell: Weaker than say a Sweetwater IPA.
Taste: Decent. Hoppy, but not as hoppy as the Spearhead hawaiian style ale. I mean, come on. 'Super Atomic IPA' and it's weak? I was a bit let down.
Mouthfeel: It's very clear, filtered and refined. Very similar to a Sweetwater IPA, but a bit darker.

Overall, I shouldn't complain. I drank a good IPA brewed in Ontario. It was like I visited my parents in Nebraska and wasn't used to what the local breweries put out, therefore was scared and pessimistic. I gave it a 3.5 as I was happy to see that Canadians like a good IPA. And I was even happier to drink a this along side the Spearhead Hawaiian style ale in the same sitting.

I'm glad I can travel to the greater north and enjoy a great IPA.

A - Very nice, deep copper colour, more towards the reddish-brown spectrum of amber. Poured with a thick, but light white head that dissipated fast for about the first half, then much more slowly for the second half.

S - Very hoppy, with some nice fruity notes. Citrus builds towards the back end. Was expecting the nose to be a bit stronger.

T - A nice bitter, hoppy start that transitions smoothly into a malted middle. Bitterness comes back for the finish, leaving a good amount of hops on your palate for the aftertaste, but without being to overbearing. Citrus flavours throughout brighten everything well, keeping it fresh tasting.

M - Good amount of body, definitely feels richer than it looks. A good, moderate amount of carbonation is perfect: gives just enough body to fill your mouth, without being so much as to take away from the beer. Can't really notice the 6% ABV, which is nice.

Overall, a great beer for me. Fantastic balance to have a lot of great hops flavour without an overpowering bitterness. My first brew from Flying Monkeys, and I'll definitely be back for more.

Pours cloudy copper. Nice foamy head with heavy lacing.

Smells of citrus and malt. Not strong smelling. Roasted malt smell.

Taste of citrus hops and malt nice little bite of bitterness on finish but not as much hop bite as you would expect from the name.

Light carbonation similar to other IPA.

Overall I really enjoy this Canadian IPA very sessionable almost to easy to drink nice citrus notes with piney bite but smoothed out with malts. Lots if different flavours going on this is excellent Ipa very well put together just the right amount of sweet malt and better hop delicious.

Smash Bomb Atomic IPA was an excellent beer with a great flavour. A very flavour forward beer, it hits excellent notes and finishes smoothly and with a pleasant aftertaste.

Not for the faint of heart, as it is a very hoppy beer, but for those who enjoy such a thing, it's delicious.

I absolutely love IPAs. the crispness, the bitterness. it's a real drinkers beer.

This is a failure of epic proportions. straight out of the fridge, ice cold...that's about the best part. once it hits your tongue and you get that fermented sock flavour splashing over your taste buds, you pull back, force yourself to swallow then exclaim "WTF was that??"

you think maybe it's just a lingering after taste from something you ate, so you try again....nope it's actually worse on the second mouthful.

maybe it's me, you think.
so you give one to your friend and his response is an enthusiastic, "dude that's F**king terrible"

I look into the glass...something must be wrong. it's supposed to be a pale, but it's more of an amber, far too dark to be what's reported.

a week later you fish bottle #3 out of the pack and try again. nope, same effect. in desperation you steal one of your wife's limes from the pile she's using for her coronas...one's not enough, after you've jammed four down the neck of the bottle it starts to become palatable....but four?? it's taken almost half a friggin lime to be palatable? what's wrong here? for a man who can chug tallboys of murphy's or guiness without blinking to be defeated by an IPA is impossible.

last ditch effort, beer barbecue sauce!!!!

worst goddamn barbecue sauce in existence.

epic fail
