Smells like grapefruit and pepper. Initial taste is much the same. Finishes with tastes of booze and wood. Seemed to sweeten up with some caramel notes as my palate adjusted. Cool beer, lots to think about. Wouldn't incorporate it into the regular repertoire though...

This is an interesting one. Probably the first cedar aged beer I've had, and I'm fairly impressed.

Woody nose, cedar certainly gives a distinctive aroma and it comes through clear.

Bit of a war going on in this beer. The Amarillo, the cedar, the sweet malt, and the heat are all wrestling with each other. It's not bad though, unless you don't care for the cedar, in which case you have a problem. Sweet honey malt up front, brief flash of hops and then the cedar takes over. Lingering lovely, to me, aftertaste of wood.

I understand why the reviews are all over the place for this. I enjoy it, but can't begrudge anyone for feeling differently.

A - mostly clear copper, big tower of soapy tan head that is a little on the annoying side but its hard to hate on that, plenty of lacing when it finally subsided
S - hints of earthy and leafiness, some cherry, and a healthy dose of woody cedar that is nice but make it smell less like a big DIPA
T - caramel and a bloodlike maltiness, slightly fruity with a noticeable woodiness, mild hints of grapefruit and leafs on the tail end, its tasty but is more like a dobblebock than a DIPA so I have to deduct a smidge
M - mediumish body with a somewhat sticky feel up front, light notes of bitterness late on the finish, fairly full throughout
O - this is a unique and tasty brew for sure, and the cedar aging is a big part of that, but in term of being a DIPA it doesn't really meet the standards, but if you just want a tasty unique brew and don't expect a bid DIPA hop bomb then definitely grab one if you come across it
