This was poured into a snifter. The appearance was a deep dark red color with a one finger white foamy head that dissipated within about a minute. Light lacing pervaded throughout the glass. The smell had a decent intriguing dark roasted caramel maltiness with a light toffee and alcoholic nuttiness. The taste took those flavors and combined extremely nicely. On the palate, this one sat about a medium on the body with a sessionability about it that was there. The carbonation was fairly subdued but still good for the style. Overall, pretty good American Strong Ale I’d have again.

Big thanks to hopsolutely for this monster of a beer. Cheers! Apparently this is a collaboration with Central City out in BC. I guess they brewed the beer at both locations as well.
From a 750 into a snifter
IBU: 80
Mosaic Hops
APPEARANCE: Pours a three finger, medium-thicker looking, creamy, light beige head with excellent retention. Maroon red in color with medium levels of carbonation evident. Head fades to a wisp and bubbly cap leaving some sticky lacing down the glass. A swirly wisp remains until the end and lots of lacing decorates the glass as it empties. Good looking brew for sure.
SMELL: Caramel malts, red fruits, melon, with some floral hops and some nice grapefruit notes as well. Bold and interesting nose here.
TASTE: Caramel, red fruit and some spicy, peppery hops up front. Lots of bitterness and spicy floral flavors at the swallow, with a bold and lingering finish of red fruit and caramel sweetness, lots of floral bitterness and some spicy hops and alcohol. Flavorful and plenty bitter.
PALATE: Medium-full body with medium levels of carbonation. Creamy and smooth on the palate, goes down smooth and finishes a bit mouth-coating. Some heat lingers.
OVERALL: This is pretty good overall. It’s overly bitter perhaps, as the bitterness just adds bitterness and not much in terms of real character. The spiciness if nice, though it is a touch boozier than it needs to be. Still, this is enjoyable and interesting with a good feel to support the show. Really glad I got to drink this one and recommend you give it a shot if you see it. Thanks again guys!

Bottle: Poured a deep amber color ale with a large foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma consists of deep sweet caramelized malt with some earthy and piney hops. Taste I also dominated by some sweet caramelized malt with light unrefined notes with some citrus and piney hops. Body is quite full with good carbonation. Too much residual sugars for my taste but still enjoyable.

From a 750 ml bottle to a pint glass.
A: pours a deep red brown with a very fluffy three finger head that breaks slowly leaving excellent lacing and an island of foam behind.
S: hops, in particular pine and some citrus, followed by malts and caramel.
T: pine, resin, malts and caramel. Much sweeter than I expected.
M: lower carbonation and an oily or slick mouth feel.
O: well, this certainly would be the best I have seen out of Flying Monkeys in a while, but when you collaborate with Central City it's gonna come up a notch in my opinion. I think that the tiny bit of age that this beer has on it has mellowed it a bit, and that is not necessarily a bad thing. I'd be up for another collaboration from these two breweries.

750 ml bottle into Leffe large wine. 9.5% ABV Imperial Red Ale
A medium red brown that is bright orange when held to the light. Half inch beige medium head that became a slick and ring. Not much lacing that quickly slides out of side.
A very fruity, musty aroma. Tropical fruits and raisins along with a floral nose.
Lots of hops in front and backend. Citrus and herbal bitterness integrated very well with tropical fruits giving the taste of the rinds. Papua, mango and grapefruit with a touch of sweetness. A real earthy taste. There is some evidence of the alcohol. Both the malt and hops hang in together through the aftertaste.
Medium feel. Some oiliness in the mouth. Small nip of carbonation and alcohol warmth.
A successful interesting collaboration. This imperial red ale is really quite different from your typical red ale. Closer to a DIPA.

Red on Red, despite its name, actually has the deep, brownish colour of an earthen jug (except against the light, which reveals a vivid crimson that allows enough transparency that I can make out the shadow of my finger on the other side). Its head is like sheep's wool.
Mosaic hops have been described as "Citra on steroids" but they're actually derived from Simcoe, so while they do offer a good amount of tropical fruitiness, there's also a great deal of pine and bitter leaves. This is a pretty diversified aroma, albeit one that's terribly bitter.
So bitter, in fact, that it's actually a little odious at first - like an herbal remedy of leafy greens and oily, concentrated citrus extracts. (Adding garlic should be enough to stave off any winter cold.) It's a bit repugnant, but a more agreeable side begins to show with warmth...
With mango, pineapple, and papaya leading the way (mind you, it's still their rinds rather than the actual fruit). The herbals soften as they become less 'bitter kale-like' and more 'resiny pine-like' and gain a hint of mintiness. Even a delicious chestnut honey note comes over the nutty, nougat-like caramel malts. Ultimately, however, it's still rather boozy and aggressive.
Owing to their monumental Red Racer IPA and the magnificent DIPA for Autism, Central City Brewing is, in my mind, the undisputed king of hops in Canada. Flying Monkeys are no stranger to the hop cone either, yet this rendition of a hoppy Amber Ale wouldn't be my pick for best example of the style; it's a good collaboration but one not necessarily worth repeating.
