The brew pours an amber brown color from the Rooster Fish growler gifted to me by S.M. The beers aroma was decent followed by a very good mouthfeel. The taste was clean, crisp and refreshing. For an APA I would like slightly more hop character but this beer is very drinkable. The ABV although only 6.5% was non existent making this a session beer worth trying.

Bottom Line: Good Brew from Watkins Glen.

Pours hazy and orange with a fat head of khaki colored foam that lasted well and left a ring. Nose is bright sweet orange and some tart citrus. Malt pokes it head out for a sideways glance of it's sweetness. Hops are floral and this smells very inviting. Taste is plentiful with citrus, both sweet and tart. The malt is shy but shows us a little leg in the drink and becomes a bit nutty as the beer warms. There is a slight metallic undertaste that does detract in my opinion. I would have scored this higher if it did not have that. There is no freshness date on the bottle. Spritzy carbonation for a light body and mouthfeel. The finish is juicy and tart and only slightly bitter. I really liked this despite that one flaw. I would try it again.

A: Pours an amber brown with plenty of carbonation. Head retention is great. Large chunks of lacing on the glass.

S: Hopped with a spicy, grassy flavor.

T: Centennial hops if I had to guess. Really good and clean. Well balanced with some malts but not dominant.

M: Good carbonation and plays nicely on the tongue.

O: Good brew.

Appearance: pours an orange color with a two finger head.

Smell: orange citrus, caramel, and a floral bitterness is all you can detect.

Taste: caramel, orange slices, and a floral bitterness create a decent flavored pale ale.

Mouthfeel: medium bodied beer. Crisp from start to finish. Refreshing.

Overall: an easy to drink pale ale. Definite session ale. Worthy of a try.

Cask at d.b.a., Brooklyn, NY

A: The beer is relatively clear copper in color and poured with a thin ring of bubbles on the surface around the edge of the glass.
S: There are light aromas of citrusy hops in the nose along with some sweet malt.
T: The taste is similar to the smell but the flavors are a bit stronger. It has a light amount of bitterness.
M: It feels medium-bodied and smooth on the palate with no carbonation.
O: The beer is very easy to drink and quite sessionable.

Served on-tap at the Roosterfish Brewpub as part of their flight.

A: Crisp pale amber in color, decent head that didn't stick around long but the beer left some very heavy lacing in the glass and it stuck around.

S: Not big on the olfactory, but not offensive either. Not much to the nose here...some malt, not hoppy...

T: This is a nicely balanced beer with nice sweet malt on the front end backed nicely by some bitter hops.

M: Light-medium bodied beer, medium-carbonation. No aftertaste to speak of.

O: Overall, a decent pale ale. Nicely balanced and an easy drinker. One that I would order again.

Dogtooth Pale ale has a bright, fairly clear, copper-colored body. The off-white head is about a finger tall and has decent retention and manages to leave a few scraps of lacing behind.

The aroma features bread and some sweet caramel from the malt, as well as leafy, fruity hops.

This APA is fairly balanced, but it leans toward hops a little more than the malt. Hop flavors come out immediately, with some leafy flavors and a little bit of a zesty citrus flavor. After that come a good bit of grain and just a bit of caramel.

The body is light and the carbonation is pretty zippy for this one.

Not a bad beer. A pale ale on-tap at the brewery is always a good choice.

On draft at the brewpub.

Poured a light copper hue with a one finger foamy white head. There was very good retention and lacing.

The smell featured a grassy hop and angular malt.

The taste was well balanced with a good caramle and assertive graininess.

The mouthfeel was typical of teh style with a nice residual dryness.

Overall a tasty APA.

Presentation: It was poured from the tap at The Wildflower Café / The Crooked Rooster Brewpub. The serving glass was a simple Roosterfish pint glass.

Appearance: The body is slightly hazy and has a nice medium amber color with some visible carbonation. There is a small head which hangs on for a while before fading to a light ring of foam. On the way down the glass it does leave some thin lace rings.

Smell: In the nose I pick up mild mix of sweet malt and American hops.

Taste/Palate: On the tongue there is a pleasant balance of bready and lightly caramely malt with mellow citrus and leafy hops. It has a medium body and finishes with a nice quick hop fade which sets you up for another sip. The texture is easy drinking and nicely carbonated.

Notes: This is a good all-around APA with good balance and drinkability. I really enjoyed it but Hop Heads may be a bit let down however.

Shows up a light red (not pink!) with a suggestion of a head. Sweet caramelized malts come through but little hop character is evident from the smell. It tastes a little bready with sweet caramel notes and some off-tasting soap (hopefully from the glass, not the beer). There are some crisp hops and peppery spiciness. A little residual bitterness stays on the tongue afterward as well as an aftertaste of toasted biscuit and a puff of ethanol. Could be a good session beer if it wasn't for the soapy taste. I hope it was just a bad pour.
