Tasted On: 12-17-2011
Freshness: Best by 05-2012
Packaging: 330 ml green bottle
Glassware: Pilsner glass
Purchased: Single from World Market

A: Light golden color, clear, with lots of bubbles in the glass. Head of 4+ fingers is white and creamy. Both head retention and lacing are very good.

S: Light breadiness from the malts, subtle fruit notes and pilsner-like hop aromas.

T: Crisp and clean lager, with a good balance of sweetness and bitterness. I do pick up some astringency as the beer warms.

M: Body is thin with a moderate level of carbonation. Finishes dry with some fruit flavors.

O: Clean and refreshing, I thought this was a decent lager.

Pours yellow with a small, quickly fading head.
Nose shows hay, grainy malt and faint spicy hops. Quite plain.
Some hay and grainy malt as flavours too. Quite sweet, very little bitterness, which makes for a cloying finish.
Too much carbonation.
Pretty boring.

A- Clear, medium golden. Head is thick and white. Lasts a bit better than the average of this style.
S- The aroma is not good. There is some light hop, but otherwise it has the really off aroma that is somewhere between old grain and wet paper.
T- Only a flash of off flavor. There is a grassy flavor and a sweet grainyness.
M- Light body, slightly foamy in the mouth. Slightly dry finish.
O- It's a generic pale lager. Not much better or worse than Heineken et al.

A - Clear pale amber body with a thin bubbly white head. No lacing.

S - Corn and salty crackers. Metal.

T - Plain Doritos mixed with a repulsive coin flavour. Foul aftertaste.

M - Thin body, high carbonation. Crisp bite.

O - Absolutely terrible. I couldn't finish it. Never again.

Enjoyed this 12oz beer out of a green bottle.

A: Clear pale yellow lager with a solid lacing.

S: Bready skunky aroma.

T: Skunky and slighly bitter beer with a semi citrus hop flavor.

M: Medium body and medium carbonation.

O: Pretty average Euro Lager - nothing I would bother with again.

A decent beer with a pale appearance, moderate head and lacing. Light Czec style pils aroma. Clean malt taste with sazz type finish. Light feel with a crisp finish. A nice lawn mower beer and a good one for large barbeque as it is clean, crisp and refreshing. Not the one to grab for a night of flavor exploration but hey there are plenty of those as well. A good step above BMC style brews.

A 500ml green bottle with a BB of March 2012. ABV is stated as 4.7%.

Poured into a Guinness pint glass. A clear straw yellow colour with medium carbonation and some floating sediment. Yields a large head of creamy white foam that lasts for a couple of minutes. Aroma is weak; some light nutty malt, a fleeting hint of cooked leaves and a whisper of solvent.

Tastes of light malt with a faint bitter finish. Subtle notes of stewed leaves with a background hint of solvent. Hop character is non-existant. Mouthfeel is smooth and tingly, with slight astringency. Almost no aftertaste - a ghost of light malt.

A bog standard macro lager - OK for a hot climate. Taste could be cleaner, but this probably isn't a problem if it's served cold. There are plenty of better beers out there - pass on this.

Mythos Lager, ABV: 4.7%.
500 ml bottle, 16.90 SEK at Systembolaget.

A: This beer has a pale golden-coloured liquid, and a pretty decent white head that leaves some lacing.

S: A neutral aroma, all-in-all, but I get some doughy white bread, and hints of citrus fruits.

T: The taste is quite neutral, as well, with some smaller notes of malt, bread, and lemon. Nothing bad, though, no off-flavours.

M: I feel some body, and some bitterness. It's light, but not too light - it still got some crisp. Extremely drinkable, and smooth.

O: This is a favourite for Swedes vacationing on any Greek island, and it's easy to see why - it doesn't intimidate anyone - here's no skunk, and you could drink loads of it by the pool. Right now it's doing me good after a long day of Swedish summer - the only thing missing is a great Greek salad with a lot of olive oil and feta cheese.

Creamy. Right out of the bottle, it feels like a slice of lime, like a Carlsberg or Heineken. Pale yellow transparent. Entry into mouth quiet first, followed by a slightly grassy hop ending, finally, finish with a somewhat bitter but far from being truly exceptional. Just as nice lager but nothing more.

Big thanks goes out to Greece and their fine select choices! Served from bottle into a Mikkeller flute. Poured golden yellow with a half finger pure white head that subsided to a minimal amount quickly. There was no lacing evident throughout the glass. The aroma was comprised of sweet malt, grain, and wheat. The flavor was of sweet malt, grain, wheat, and slight fruit. It had a light feel on the palate with medium-high carbonation. Overall this brew was blah, plain and simple. This thing reminded me of a Greek version of Budweiser if I am honest only fruit was added. By fruit I don't mean like Bud Light Lime... Just not good in any aspect. I should have been tipped off by the aroma, but I never listen as I am a glutton for punishment. The group of us collectively drainpoured this one.

Last beer in my international lager comparison series... Finally because they started to bore me alot.

Very pale golden with a small white head (not using a proper glass for this one. Large carbonation bubbles.

Smell is grass and hops, not too much grain.

Taste is quite good actually for such a lager, it is quite malty (in a positive way, it is not a grainy taste as many of the other beers had).
Good bitterness even though it has not too much hop flavour, most of it is in the aftertaste really. But then again it is not very flavourful overall.

Lots of carbonation bites your tongue and it is not THAT watery.

One of the better lagers in my comparison.

The beer pours a pale fizzy gold, crystal-clear, and is capped with a scant white froth. The nose is slightly sweet with hint of corn and alcohol, and is basically just beer-y. The taste offers no surprises, it is moderately sweet, replete with light grain flavors, toasted corn and earthy herbal minerals. It surprises me how even the swill of a place like Greece is substantially better than the K.O.Bs.; I guess it shouldn't.

Welcome to Doktor Hops Brew World Tour! Tonight is country #10: Greece. So without further ado let's visit the Greek islands, Mythos style.

Poured from a 330ml bottle into a 500ml Stein glass.

A: Looks exactly like a Lager. What else is there to say? Clear golden body with a foamy white head... absolutely no surprises here.

S: Smells exactly like a Lager (and I'm sure you can see where I'm going next). Grain driven, slight malt, with a slight sourdough hop aroma. So far, so meh.

T: Actually not bad. It's got that grainy/slightly corny malt base, a hint of sweetbread and a tangy zesty hop finish that leaves you thinking "it's not much but it's certainly a Lager". It won't win any awards, but conversely it's not nearly as puke inducing as most macro Lagers can be and drunk cold it certainly goes down easy too.

M: The usual Lager-foolery. Other than that it's seems a little denser than most of the Lagers I've drunk before, like the Greek kid you went to school with who felt they had something to prove- to be accepted amongst it's peers.

D: I found it not nearly as bad as I was expecting and taking down a Saganaki with this by it's side was a breeze. As I mentioned before it's not going to win any awards but it will beat most local Aussie Lagers head-to-head any day of the week. Nuff said.

Food match: Saganaki was a game, set & food match for me. I could also see a Souvlaki going down a treat... in fact I would mix this drop with pretty much any Greek cusine you can think of. Yiamas!

Clear, light golden colour with a 2-finger sized white head that fades fast leaving a soapy lace.

Corn, grain & other adjuncts dominating the nose. The smell is quite strong and skunk like.

Tastes mainly of adjuncts like grain and corn with some malts and the faintest dry hop flavour towards the end.

Almost watery, smooth though & a little dry in the finish. There is some bitter but not too much.

Not a very pleasant beer in any category really but despite that it was still a drinkable beer that went down without a struggle. The price was a little high though.

Pours a clear straw color, light head, moderate carbonation and clear. The carbonation seemed to hold for most of the session.

The nose has some stale malt, a dry hop note and that"becks" german lager honey note. This lead to exactly what I expected, a beer that has that stale nd honey taste of a mass produced german lager. Not really all that complex.

In terms of mouthfeel it is decent. There is no cloyinging and only minimal aftertaste. In all fairness, I had this at a greek food fest this past weekend and for a 90+ degree day, this beer is a half step above a miller, bud or coors.

I would say this is a good beer if you are gonna eat mousaka, lamb kabobs and just go whole hog deep greek.

A- pours a clear bright golden with a very nice creamy eggshell colored head. poured into a pokal, the foam holds very well and makes some big drippy lace. for a style that i consider to be boring, this one looks as good as i can imagine.

S- faintly lemony, herbal and grassy with a popcorn type malt sweetness. otherwise fresh and not skunked.

T- clean and light with a mild fruitiness underneath the grassy hops and barely toasted malt flavor. nice citrus flavor too that would compliment any food with lemon wedges squeezed on it. score one for the greeks. finishes clean with lingering citrus and some tart malt flavor. with a hint of lamb.

MF- carbonation is very fine and not zesty enough for me. its gives a creamy, almost nitro feel, but with the light body, i think this one could use some more vigor. nice dryness however.

D- overall i'm pretty impressed with mythos. i kind of expected it to suck and i don't really know why. one side of my family is greek so my relatives brought me a couple bottles from the greek food festival in pittsburgh. maybe that is the reason these green bottles are so fresh and not skunked. they haven't been sitting on a store shelf, they were ordered in bulk and used over the course of a weekend. that garnishes this greek beer with a nice squeeze of awesome
when had fresh, even in america. if i had a case, i'd squeeze some lemon on it.
