Doom Bar is inspired by its namesake, the treacherous sandbank at the mouth of the Camel Estuary near Sharps' home at Rock. Accomplished and precise, Doom Bar is the epitomy of consistency, balance and moreish appeal and is now the UK's no.1 selling cask beer.

An enticing aroma of resinous hop, sweet malt and delicate roasted notes. The mouth feel is a balanced, complex blend of succulent dried fruit, lightly roasted malt and a subtle yet assertive bitterness. The finish is dry and refreshing.

Seen this around town a lot and now finally trying it because I’ve tried everything else. From cask at The Speaker in the Westminster neighborhood of London. Unique dark malt qualities, quite tasty and a contrast to the traditional bitter I had right before this pint. Strong hop character in the finish. Smooth and clean but just average overall.

Had on cask. Clear lighter brown pour with a lighter beige head and sheets of lacing. Smell and taste are clones, clearly on the sweeter side of the style specturm: very light malt with big toffee, nuts, toast, and faint earthy hops with grain and a hint of pine. Feel is light, smooth, malty, and wetter for style. The Wife loved it and I did too, happily had more pints on the trip!

Trout Inn,Wolvercote.
Copper amber. Frothy if white head steadily shrinks to lasting thin foamy top. Some foamy lace.
Aroma rich whole wheat bread and hints of jam and earth.
Taste smooth, malty sweetness with whole wheat toast and hint of dried fruit, gentle tea and lemon bitterness. Good, enjoyable, very drinkable, but rather flat and simple in character compared to many other more complex English cask bitters/pale ales.

Tasted from a cask tap at The Feathers pub around the corner from Westminster Abbey in London. I had not heard of it and wasn't expecting much, but any real ale in London is worth trying, right? That was certainly true in this case. My scores above appear to be much higher than the BA average, but I wonder how many of them were reviewing the bottled version. In my experience the bottled vs. cask versions of the same beer can often seem to be from different universes. The pint I tasted had appearance, aroma, flavor and mouthfeel that were all great for a traditional bitter.

This was a beautiful pint, crystal clear and a bit more amber than average but within the range. Nice malty aroma, crisp, malty but quaffable flavor and mouthfeel with a bit of hops to make it refreshing.

Halfpint (cask) at JDW, The Flying Horse, London Gatwick Airport. Also had a pint in Guernsey. Copper colour, low off-white head. Malty aroma and flavour, medium dry. Nutty notes, a hint of tingling fruit and toffee. Very moderate hops. Smooth to drink.

A traditional balanced bitter where sweet biscuity malt sits well against the hops and with a good mouthfeel. These days many see this style, and this beer, as a bit dull and unadventurious and Doom Bar is often the sole cask offering in the big brewery-owned chain pubs, but personally I'm always pleased to see it and drink it.

On cask at the Cheshire Cheese. Some minor hoppiness. Refreshing. Better than the Black Sheep Best Bitter that was also on cask.

Pours a clear, deep amber coloration with a medium, creamy head. Smells of biscuity, slightly grainy malt and grassy, herbal hops, with just a hint of citrus coming through. Taste is a good balance of biscuity, slighty grainy malt and grassy, herbal hops, with some citrus and just a hint of pine also coming through. Finishes with a light/medium bitterness and some biscuity, grainy malt and herbal, citrus hops lingering in the aftertaste. Smooth mouthfeel with a light/medium body and amedium carbonation.

This is a pretty mild, crisp and clean Bitter that's quite refreshing and easy-drinking, with a good balance of biscuity and slightly grainy malt and grassy, herbal hops, with some lighter accents of citrus and pine adding a little zest here and adding to the refreshing feel of this.
