A: Clear yellow pour with a fizzy white head. As the head recedes, it laces nicely down the side of the glass, but doesn't stick around for very long.

S: Like all adjunct lagers it has a light hoppy smell with a slight malt backbone. Barley and wheat are slightly discernable. Not a lot going on here.

T: Not what I was expecting. Hoppier with the wheat and barley tying it all together. Crisp and drinkable with a clean aftertaste.

MF: Light, carbonated well, dry finish.

O: "A little taste of Africa" as my girlfriend brought this offering back from a trip to Lesotho. I love trying strange beers that are so readily available in parts of the world I doubt I'll ever see.

The trouble I had to get this! After a day trip to Lesotho, the border guard wanted to charge me a ZAR250 'tax' (read bribe) to bring a sing ZAR9 can back into the country. After a drawn out conversation and threats to call the embassy, I got this can back in tax free. Now lets see if it was worth the trouble.

A - Clear, golden, pours a decent (2cm) thick head that forms a thin lacing rather quickly.

S - Slight maize and sugary odours, typical adjunct lager smells here. Not too pungent.

t - Crisp, sweet taste, as much corn/maize flavours as there is malt. Overall the flavour is very short and a bit bland.

M - Moderate carbonation. Slightly watery with a chalky feel, which is suprising given that the water in the beer is probably sourced from one of Lesotho's many mountain streams.

O - nothing too special here, in the same league as Castle and other southern african lagers. However, given the beer has been served ice cold, the beer is quite crisp and given the long day I have had, its going down real easy!!!

btw, the customs official was the only unfriendly person in this beautiful mountainous little country, well worth the detour if you are in this neck of the woods.
