First introduced in 1836.
Strong beers were banned in Sweden 1923-1956.
The 5.5 % original recipe was re-introduced in 1985 as a beer fermented with both top and bottom yeast.
In 1993, the yeast was changed to a single bottom-fermenting strain.
In 2009, the label design and name was changed from "Carnegie Stark-Porter" to "Carnegie Porter".

A: Poured a dark, cola color with plum highlights around the edges when held up to the light. The head was compact and creamy, a dark khaki color that quickly settled to a sparse layering but left a beautiful near solid film lacing. Even with its dark nature you can still see the rapid steady jet streams of carbonation bustling to the surface.
S: The nose was dark roasted malts with deep chocolate and fresh coffee.
T: The initial flavor was rich bitter sweet chocolate with dark coffee grains and some lactose/creamer notes adding some sweetness. There was some cocoa and vanilla bean, fresh ripe fruit (plums, raisins) adding to the complex and well balanced profile. There was a noticeable creamy chocolate nature to the drink as well.
M: creamy, rich, and aerated(fluffy) in the mouth with semi-bitter chocolate and fresh coffee for a lacing and fade.
D: Drinkability was simply beautiful, Did not want to sit my glass down for this one and was sad to see it go so quickly. Amazing and worthy of a high recommend.

10oz bottle from 1997.
Pours opaque black with minimal head and no retention. Bakers chocolate, espresso in the nose. Medium bodied with a slick, oily mouthfeel. Dark chocolate and faint fudge on the palate. Finishes fairly dry with lingering chocolate.

good Baltic Porter but I like all of them. As is always the case with this style get ready for some heartiness with a hidden punch. This represents style and is good.

Unlike American porters.
Stronger malt presence, with added tastes- fruit, and some coffee. Possibly sweet.
Best at 50° unlike American porters which usually are better at colder temps.

A: pours a dark brown body with small tan head with ok retention and lacing
S: subtle, meaty smell; some roastedness
T: sweet, roasted earthy tasting beer; subtle meatness; sweet aftertaste

(2002 rating.) I had the 2001 'vintage', it probably would have developed its character if it had been cellared a few years like the brewery recommends, but as I personally have an extremely weak character, I was unable to wait! Even as fresh as this Carnegie is a fine porter. It may be tiresome repeating that porters have coffee-like qualities - actually, a good porter like this one has a lot better flavour than any cup of coffee! The aftertaste is moreish, this is definitely a beer I'll buy again. Good to experience that Pripps are able to brew something far better than their shitty lagers. Same recipe since 1836, great! Now if I just could find someone with an iron will and a huge padlock who would cellar a few bottles for me...

It pours very dark brown with reddish highlights, with an inch of tannish foam.
It smells of roasted malt, chocolate, hints of coffee. There's some sweet notes along with the roasted malt that could be from the chocolate.
Nice roasted malt flavours, chocolate, bit of coffee, some sweet notes but overall, it has a solid bitterness.
Aa the beer warms, the flavours become more bold, pretty impressive for only 5.5% abv.
The mouthfeel just creeps into medium territory.
I've always enjoyed this in the distant past, I'm glad that I can again.

Porter from Carlsberg Sverige AB. Purchased 10/20/20 for $ 4.23 (Including tax) for 11.2 oz bottle ($ 0.378/oz) from Shangy’s in Emmaus, PA. Reviewed 12/5/20.
No date other than “Argang 2016” on front label. On room temperature shelf at store and stored at home at 42 degrees. Served at 54 degrees in a hand washed and dried Jester King snifter. Final temperature 57.9 degrees.
Appearance – 3.5.
First pour – Deep amber (SRM 15), clear.
Body – Ruby brown (SRM 24), opaque. When held to direct light, barely penetrates but distinct ruby where it does.
Head – Average (Maximum three cm, aggressive center pour), buff, high density, average retention, rapidly diminishing to a three to four mm crown fed in several places by effervescence, and a thin, rocky cap.
Lacing – Fair. Narrow band of extremely torn curtain.
Aroma – 4 – Moderate roasted malt with a bit of sweetness, no hops, no yeast.
Flavor – 4 – Begins with roasted malt and coffee, extremely bitter, no hops, no yeast. The bitterness quickly ameliorates and leaves a bit of sweetness on the tongue with hints of cola. No alcohol (5.5 % ABV, as marked on container) taste or aroma. No dimethylsulfide or diacetyl.
Palate – 4 – Medium, almost creamy, soft but lively carbonation.
Final impression and summation: 4 Good.

This voyage began with an eleven point two ounce bottle poured into a clear pint glass. The color of the liquid is a very dark caramel, without providing a head, nor glass lace. Nice wafts of roasted barley malt rescue the visual. This porter lays light on the tongue, but delivers full roasted malt flavor. The finish continues light, clean and with just a hint of dark chocolate. This Swedish porter with a Scottish name is one to remember.
