Went over to the Rocky River Brewing Company while I was in town and picked myself up a growler.
A: Black. Some mahogany on the edges against the light. Poured a nice creamy dark chocolate stained 2 finger head. It dissipated to a fine dusting that remained throughout the pint. Good lacing.
S: Great chocolate. Not overpowering and not that horrible artificial chocolate that some have. Just the type of smell you would want from a chocolate stout. The bitter chocolate was also backed up by some biscuity malt, some burnt - almost smokey notes along with a caramel sweetness.
T: Plenty to chew into. The taste was like the smell. Big quality chocolate taste, some biscuity malt. There was a sweet milkiness to it and it also delivered an almost milk stout type lactose sourness. Very interesting stout - plenty going on and well balanced.
M: Low carbonation. Medium body. Very smooth. Got creamier and more round as the drink progressed. Some sour tanginess on the palette.
D: I could have done with it being a little fuller in body. The lightness did have the advantage of making it just slip down. I drank it much quicker than I expected to and then I had another. Felt like a low ABV but it can't be that low. I really enjoyed this brew and was disappointed that I didn't get to try the other offerings on-tap. Next time!

Pours a dark brown with a small tan head. Lots of lace is left hanging on the glass.
Nose: Chocolate cocoa, slight coffee, some caramel
A nice thick chewy mouth. Man this brew is all about the chocolate. Deep dark chocolate dominates. Mouth is left feeling chalky. Did i mention chocolate? This was the most chocolately stout i've ever had.
I great desert beer at the end of a great day touring some of clevelands finest brewpubs.

Good stuff. Great chocolate aroma with hints of caramel. Body is light and screams drink me. Mildy bitter finish with tons of chocolate flavor. As the beer warms and the carbonation settles it becomes increasingly smoother and silkier. Molasses and vanilla notes enter the palate. Slightly oily. Wonderful chocolate flavor and ever so easy to drink. A winner. Medium to dark brown body.

Deep brown crowned by a slight short lived beige head. Slght bits of amber ligh shone through when held to the light.
Chocolate, coffee, baking chocolate smell.
Smooth chocolate flavor, malt, coffee and a hint of molasses.
Creamy smooth, short lived makes you thirsty for another. I could definitely have this again, in fact I think I will now.

Cask version at Barleys 3rd Annual Mini RAF (04/16/05): Opaque black color with a medium thin and rocky light beige head. The aroma is chocolate and a bit of roasted malt. Rich and velvety smooth body, this is darn close to a cold glass of chocolate milk. Chocolate, malt and vanilla are all understated yet tasty. The finish is clean and creamy with a milk chocolate aftertaste. Good stuff.

On-tap at the 3rd annual mini-RAF at Barley's Smokehouse.
Appearance: Charcoal black with a sudsy tan head. No carbonation noted and dense black in the glass.
Smell: Chocolate is amped up! Dry cocoa and espresso beans jump out of the glass. The chocolate is so overpowering that nothing else is able to show. Still, it is a very inviting smell.
Taste: The chocolate is definitely dialed in. A little bit of dry coffee bitterness and some carob. Also, there is a roasted barley note in the background. However, the chocolate is in charge here. Sipping this definitely reminds me of chocolate Neccos (thanks for that one Mark!).
Mouthfeel: Thin bodied and minimal carbonation. Kind of a bummer and way too thin to be considered a stout. Maybe a porter but c'mon...
Drinkability: Definitely easy to throw down. This has a great porter feel. This would pair well with some dark chocolate or stand alone great as a dessert beer. Good stuff.
