A pint of black liquid with tints of red at the edges, and a thick, lasting head that dissipates slowly, leaving clumps of lacing on the glass.

Smells nicely of roasted malts, semi-bitter ch ocolate and black, freshly brewed coffee, rather dry.

Fuller body than I expected for this ABV... nice dry roasted malt, some spices and the usual coffee and dark chocolate, finishes slightly watery, but was a great match with a burger!

Light carbonation, with small soft bubbles made for a pleasant drink!

Overall a really nice beer to match with food, as it still has character and doesn't excuse itself, while still not raping you palate with a grotesque ABV, thumbs up.

The colour is black like a winter night; the low brown head leaves some lacing.

A flavour of really roasted malt dominates the smell. There are also notes of coffee sweets, black coffee, some fruity hops and a hint of Chinese sweet-sour sauce (!).

The taste got a dominating flavour of heavily roasted malt – strong black coffee and roasted nuts. To balance that taste, there is some bitter sour hoppy flavours. I noticed some liquorice and leather. The body is medium. The aftertaste is bitter and roasted with more of that coffee and some notes of spices (nutmeg), minerals (chalk) and a touch of lime.

The carbonation is medium strong; the bubbles are medium sized and the liquid is a bit viscous.

An unexpected and very nice winter beer, somewhere between an English and an American Porter.
