A version of De Molen's Vuur & Vlamm brewed for the 2nd annual BOREFTS Bierfestival in Bodegraven.
Got this one at the De Molen beer shop.
From a bottle into a snifter.
APPEARANCE: Pours a two finger, medium-thick, white head with good retention. Burnt orange in color but gamboge when held to the light. No carbonation evident and perfectly clear. A splotchy wisp and ring remain, leaving some dots of lacing down the glass.
SMELL: Pale malts with some grapefruit and citrus aromas, as well as some floral notes. Hints of pineapple and honeydew melon in the background. Medium strength nose and nicely hopped.
TASTE: Sweet pale malts and some sweet pineapple through the middle. This is soon brushed aside by an onslaught of bitter hops, grapefruit, and floral elements as well. A very bold and lingering bitter, floral hop aftertaste is quite dominating. A touch of booze shows up after the swallow, but bitterness reigns supreme here.
PALATE: Medium body and medium carbonation. Very creamy on the palate, goes down fine and finishes slightly dry on the palate. A touch of heat after the swallow.
OVERALL: Really good brew. Definitely one of the more bitter IPAs, so if you're a fan of bitter hops, this will be right up your alley. Glad I had the opportunity to try this one while it was around. Perhaps we'll be able to line up several of the Vuur en Vlam variants soon enough, and if we do, I'll update this review and note where it placed.
EDIT: We did eventually get a few variants of V&V from the festival and put them against each other. This one came out on top for me.

33 cl bottel poured into my tulip glass
A : Amber colour with foamy, 2 fingers white head , that stays for a very long time , very nice lacing
S : Fruity, hoppy nose with notes of grapefruit, orange peel and slightly earthy, fresh hops.
T : Fruity, hoppy taste with grapefruit, pine needles, dried apricots and generous amounts of piney hops in the finish. Plenty of malt to back up the hops. balanced sweetness, quite bitter.
M : Very well balanced , nice and smooth ,
D : Very nice IPA. Could drink this every day -:)
