Gold pour with white head; looks like apple juice. Sour apple nose. Slightly sour apple start, pale malt idle and a slightly tart finish. Light mouthfeel and very effervescent. Tasty tingly beer.

12 ounce bottle
Appearance is a light golden yellow color, small white head, bad lacing, and no retention
Smell is sour mash, granny smith apples, wheat, straw, touch of yeast, and grainy cereal
Taste starts off tart and finishes dry, flavor is too acidic, gets to a sour cereal taste as it warms, was not a big fan once this happens, luckily carbonation was strong and kept it crisp, not much sweetness and no hop presence
Mouthfeel is thin and light, tartiness works well with carbonation, just flavor was off, so hard to drink in that sense
Overall this was not a refreshing Berliner Weiss like most of the others I have tasted in the past, would steer clear

"Song of the south is a crisp and refreshing German Style Sour Wheat Ale, pouring a pale straw color under a bright and fluffy white head. Lightly tart, with a delicate blend of sweet wheat and malt flavors that balance this historic and celebratory ale." Brewed in the style of a German Berliner Weissbier. This was the premiere release in the Debutante series, available in single 12 oz. bottles and on limited draft.
Poured from a 12 oz. bottle to a snifter glass. Served above 54 degrees Fahrenheit.
(Appearance) Pours a crisp fizzy head of a pale straw white color over a very mildly hazy golden yellow body with very light very sparse carbonation. Retention is below average and lacing is thin and specked. 2.75
(Smell) Soured cereal wheat mash with a moderate acidity and a medium tartness. Subtle notes of pale cracker malt and crisp cider. Strikingly clean aromatically. Potency is medium. 3.25
(Taste) Very tart, moderately acidic up front with low sweetness and no sourness. Very simple flavor altogether, unsweetened wheat and pale malt body with very little accenting malt or yeast character, some moderate to high tartness, chalky dry. It finishes very clean with a hint of cereal wheat sweetness easing out from under the wave of tart acidity. Altogether it lacks in flavor and swings closer to a Gose for me than a Berliner Weiss but isn't particularly impressive posing for either style. 3.25
(Mouthfeel) The texture is lightly chewy, silky slick, and quite dry. Carbonation is moderate, generating a medium frothiness and a mild crispness. Body is shy of medium for the style, light+ overall. Balance is slightly tart over sweet throughout. Alcohol presence is very low and there are no off characters. Much more lively carbonation than the appearance gave off, it could have been even more lively, however. 3.75
(Overall) At first glance Song of the South doesn't have promising value. Nearly $5 for a 12 oz. single bottle of a low gravity Berliner Weiss from a brewery who hasn't commonly ventured into soured ales is a risky gamble on your money. Overall, it turned out to be a disappointment for me, as the beer was incredibly shallow on flavor and balance, which the Berliner Weiss should have in addition to an emphasis on striking tartness, funky sourness and high acidity levels. Alarmingly dry, very dull flavors and not even a respectable value for a style that should be packaged in far more generous portions than single 12 oz. bottles. This beer looks to exploit a niche in uncommon traditional styles, and inevitably falls flat of mastering the style itself. I recommend a pass on this beer. 3.25
